Epilogue

Many years ago a boring assignment had come up in our international student class.

We had to describe love with a single word.

Pei Yuchuan had written "Unfreezing River."

At the time I had not understood his choice.

It was only after many years that I realized the word perfectly captured our story.

An unfreezing river rose through a thousand miles of ice and snow.

It flowed stubbornly, gurgling onward.

No matter how fiercely the bitter winds blew, it never froze.

It simply flowed on in silence toward the distance.
