Chapter Thirteen
Wade Cooper
I watch as Ava’s eyes widen at my words. I knew this would be a shock for her, but I needed her to know about it, maybe this will somehow make her stay away from me and if I ever have to leave, then it will be easier for me and for her.
Or maybe it will make her even more attached to me? Maybe she will understand me better? That, I do not want to hope for.
“She was a beauty, a real one. Both in and out. Naturally, I fell for her, and it was easier as she only gave me her attention.” I say slowly, finding it hard to go through those memories again.
“We got married shortly after and it was bliss. I felt like I had nothing else in the world that I wanted. She was all I ever wanted, and I got her. The military requires us not to reveal confidential information to anyone outside the barracks. It is the sworn duty of every soldier and breaching that is attesting to the fact that you do not deserve to wear the uniform. I knew that, I knew it very well, yet, I told her something I wasn’t supposed to.”
“W-What was that?” Ava asks silently after I didn’t say anything for a while.
“We were investigating a case. A deal which we planned to raid in just a few days, and I informed her about it. She was my wife, the love of my life and I thought she was only that. The day we went to the place, we found out that we had been infiltrated. Dozens of our men were killed and it was like they knew that we were going to be there at that time. It was then I saw her.” I take a deep breath, willing myself not to shed tears over what has passed.
“I saw her with a gun, shooting at me. My heart broke into a million different pieces and the wound I my shoulder received wasn’t even half as painful as the wound she caused in my heart. My entire world ended that day and so did my career. It didn’t take long before the men in the military found out that she was my wife and putting two and two together, discharging me with honors was the best option they gave me. If not for my past achievements and great reputation, I would have faced jail time.”
“Wade, I—” Ava’s eyes well up with tears and I hate to see her in such a state because of my story. My mistake.
“After I left the army, I did everything I could to forget about her and everything I went through because I was blinded with love. I buried myself in work and it helped a lot. In the process, I shut myself out from any feelings that will jeopardize me or what I have now. Until I met you.” I look up at her and she is mesmerizing from this angle .
The light shining down on her face and making all her features glow. Ava is truly beautiful.
“Is this, do you think what we have will get you into trouble again?” she asks in a shaky voice.
“I don’t know, Ava. I really don’t know.” I ran my hand over my face. “But I know one thing for sure. I don’t want to lose you. I don’t want to leave your side and I will do anything within my power to make sure you are safe. The emotions I locked up were somehow brought out again by you and I don’t want to be a coward and run away from what we have. I’ve already done that, and I see now it hasn’t helped at all.”
“Wade.” She calls me softly.
I took her hand on the table and smiled at her. “The food is getting cold, we should eat.”
We continued eating and talking about other things. We laugh at jokes, and at some point, we even forget why we came on this date in the first place.
With my men reporting there was no threat around, we decide to head back to Ava’s house as the plan to get the culprit out didn’t work out.
“I mean, I can sing for days but to dance? I can’t even shake my hips right.” Ava snickers as we get into the house, and I laugh at how silly she acts when she is a little tipsy.
I only drank a cup so I couldn’t even feel the alcohol in my system. As for Ava, she couldn’t even stand straight .
“Hey, watch your step.” I held her waist so she wouldn’t land on the floor.
Ava looks up at me, and her rosy scent fills my nose, making me want to bury my face in her neck. She presses her soft body against mine as her arms move up to my shoulders.
“Mr. Wade Cooper.” Her slurry voice calls my name seductively as she uses a finger to trace down my cheek.
Thank God my men had already gone home, if not, this would be the best reason for Marcus to take me off this case.
“Ava, you are drunk. Let me take you to your room.” I murmur but she shakes her head slightly.
“I am not drunk. I just…feel sad for you.” She pouts childishly, and I chuckle under my breath.
“Why?” I ask.
Ava rests her head on my chest, and her hands pat my back gently as though she is trying to comfort me. “You went through a lot because of the love you had for her, and I feel sad that you have to relive that day every single day of your life.”
I remain frozen on the spot, not knowing what to say or do. Her words conflict me. My mind and heart are raging against each other. All I want to do is to take her into my arms and make love to her, but my duty restrains me from doing such .
I don’t want to make another mistake, nor do I want to do something I might regret tomorrow morning.
I still do have nightmares of the day my whole world fell apart. I saw my colleagues on the floor, drowning in their blood due to my mistake. They died because of me. I was so blinded by love that I forgot my duty as a soldier.
I don’t want Ava to turn out to be the same thing. I don’t want to forget about my duty and let my guard down only for something to go wrong.
“Ava, you should get some sleep.” I push her away from me slightly and look down at the mesmerizing woman in my arms. Her hands slowly reach up to hold my face.
“I don’t want you to be haunted by your past anymore, Wade. I want to help you forget it all,” she says softly before she places her lips on mine.
I groan and close my eyes. I’m already losing my resolve at the taste of her lips.
Ava wraps her arms around my torso, and I draw her closer as I deepen the kiss. My hands grab her hips as I hoist her up and move towards her bedroom.
I close the door behind us, and I place Ava on the bed. She moves her hand quickly, and takes off her dress, leaving her in only her bra and underwear.
I unbutton my shirt before I climb up and kiss her. She runs her palms over my chest and goosebumps fill my skin from her touch. Taking in her sweet scent, I nip her neck which makes her grit her teeth .
My hands move to cup her breast, and Ava wastes no time to take off her bra. I marvel at the sight before me, and I bend down to kiss her nipples. Ava moans and arches her neck while I continue to ravage her chest.
“Wade,” she moans my name several times and her husky voice filled with lust only turned me on the more.
Ava grabs my face as she kisses me eagerly. I slip my hand into her underwear, my fingers coming in contact with her warm center. I can feel she is close to her edge, and I want to satisfy her even more.
My index finger slides in, and she yelps slightly before biting down on my lower lip. I pull away from her slightly so I can watch the expression on her face as I enter her slowly.
“Oh, Wade.” Her luscious lips moan my name and I increase the pace of my finger before putting another.
Ava grabs hold of the bedsheets and groans as her cum pours all over my hand.
“Wade.” She grabs my arms and calls for me desperately.
“I know. I’m coming.” I fiddle with my belt before throwing my trousers off.
I see Ava reaching towards her drawer and she pulls out a condom. I chuckle at how prepared she was for when we would finally give into the tension that has been between us .
I get off the bed and take off my boxers before placing the condom on my manhood. I look up to see Ava staring at me which makes me smirk. She’s one naughty lady.
“You’re big.” Ava blurts out and I laugh out loud at how innocent she sounds.
“Well, you didn’t complain the last time,” I climb up on the bed, supporting my weight with my elbows.
“True, but that night, I was barely myself,” she says and I peck her reddened lips.
“Do you want me to hold on? Should we stop here?” I ran my hands over her neck where I left my love bites.
“No.” She answers breathlessly, and I grin.
“Good.”
Kissing her softly, I slide between her legs and slowly penetrate her. Ava whimpers under me at first but soon after, she starts to moan with pleasure.
I groan as waves of igniting sensations shoot up my body making my moves faster and more urgent.
“Ah. Wade,” Ava moans my name over and over as I thrust into her, feeling my climax approaching.
“Wade, I can’t—” I feel her shaking under me which makes me push harder and we both cum at the same time before I fall beside her on the bed .
Our heavy breaths fill the air, and our scents mix with each other as we look at the ceiling.
“That was…” Ava breathes out and I break a smile.
“Amazing.” I finished the sentence for her.
* * * *
I wake to the sound of my phone ringing which makes me curse loudly as I try to find the damn device. I finally found it in the pocket of my trousers which had been thrown off somewhere in the room.
“Wade?” Ava calls for me in the dark.
“Go back to bed. I’ll be right back.” I kiss her forehead and put on my trousers before stepping out of the room.
I take a minute to listen for any strange noises around the house and when I’m certain there was no danger. I call back the number who dared disturb my night.
“Jordan.” I grit out, a little bit annoyed by the fact he was calling at 2 am. But knowing Jordan, he wouldn’t just call at this time unless he had a very good reason.
“Wade. I’m so sorry to call at this hour but I couldn’t wait till morning. I got it!” He says all at once and I squint, my head not quite joining the dots.
“Found what, Jordan?” I asked to make sure I wasn’t missing something .
“The number that sent the text to Miss Anderson! I tracked it and finally found a location!” He utters and sleep is slapped off my face at this point.
