Chapter 9 The New Watch

The days in Hong Kong passed quickly.

Land was expensive here. Whether in life or work, the pace was fast.

Eyes open and it was work time. After work, I still had to climb slopes home in high heels.

It was hard, but fulfilling.

I gradually got used to this state.

In my spare time from work, I occasionally chatted with Yueyue.

She said that after I left for a month, Pei Sijin finally learned from the counselor that I had gone to Hong Kong for internship.

"You were only in the neighboring city before. This time you ran so far."

"Pei Sijin went crazy looking for you. He skipped classes and didn't go to autumn recruitment. He pestered me every day, begging for your address."

"He lied to me once with the Japanese Yakiniku thing before. This time I definitely won't help him. Song Zhiyuan, don't worry!"

I did not know why Pei Sijin still would not give up.

But I smiled and replied to her, "Yes, yes, you are the best."

Someone beside me asked, "Why are you smiling so happily? Boyfriend?"

I looked up. The speaker was a new colleague I met in Hong Kong.

He was actually an intern like me, not yet graduated.

He had the habits of a local rich young master.

I restrained my smile. "Just a friend."

Guan Junyang raised his hands. "Sorry, I spoke too much."

Seeing me get off work, Guan Junyang quickly packed up and followed out.

But as soon as I stepped out of the building entrance, I stopped in my tracks.

Pei Sijin stood at the bottom of the steps. When he saw me, his eyes lit up.

He almost immediately ran toward me but stopped half a meter away.

I asked, "What are you doing here again?"

He lowered his eyes and handed over the paper bag in his hand. Then he spoke softly.

"Egg Waffle, still hot. I remember... you used to like it a lot."

I did not take it.

"Egg Waffle is everywhere in Hong Kong. I got tired of it long ago. Also, I really hate you suddenly appearing in front of me like this."

Pei Sijin's hand trembled. He withdrew it dejectedly.

"I begged the counselor for a long time to learn which company you were interning at. After checking the address, I thought I'd try my luck..."

"Actually, I saw you going to work this morning, but I didn't dare disturb you, so I waited for you the whole time."

"So? You came all the way here just to give me a fifteen-yuan Egg Waffle? Or are you planning to keep pestering me like at school?"

Pei Sijin lowered his head.

After I finished speaking, he forced a smile. He took out a box from his pocket.

When opened, inside was a diamond-encrusted watch.

It looked exactly like the one my dad had given me back then.

I was stunned.

"Song Zhiyuan, I said I would return the broken watch to you."

"This model had no second production after it was released. I spent a long time finding this second one."

"On the matter of your father, I hurt you. Finding this watch is also my way to apologize."

"I know your watch has special meaning and nothing can replace it, but I still hope it can make up for some of it. Because it is my sincerity."

Pei Sijin took a deep breath, as if it took great courage to finish these words.

I was not unaware of the meaning behind these words.

He did all this to fight for me one more time.

But my answer would not change.

"I cannot accept this watch from you."

"...Why?"

I subconsciously touched the watch hidden under my sleeve.

"Because someone already helped me fix the watch. I don't need any substitute."

Five meters away, Guan Junyang who had been a background board the whole time raised his hand and said with a smile, "Yes, yes, it is me."

What a show-off.

I resisted the urge to facepalm. "I won't take the watch. You keep it yourself. I still have things to do, so no more chatting."

I looked back at the show-off again.

"Let's go. Didn't you say that once the watch is fixed, I treat you to dinner?"

Guan Junyang responded and hurriedly followed me.

Leaving Pei Sijin alone.

He stood there for a very long time...

And I never looked back.
