” Vincenzo lights another cigarette, flicking the lighter shut.

“Not like these whores I hire for a good time, who’ll turn you out for better money or a harder dick.

Gold diggers. All of them. Loyal women can’t be bought. ”

My stomach clenches at the cigarette smoke, but also as he looks at me and smirks. “You can try to pretend, signorina, but you touch him like he is your god. You should’ve looked at me longer if you wanted me to believe you could be bought.”

“Then I’d be gagging for the wrong reasons,” I retort.

Vincenzo laughs loudly. His eyes light up. “Are you sure I can’t be your god?”

Leo’s silent as he reaches for his drink. I’d have thought he’d be tearing into Vincenzo for how he’s talking, but there’s something in his calmness like a jaguar waiting in the darkness.

“Where is Matteo?” Leo finally asks.
