32. Chapter Thirty-two
Chapter Thirty-two
Mia
It’s a girls road trip. Bella avoids flying as much as possible and there is no way Reed would allow her to get on a flight without him, so we’re driving to San Francisco.
The music is blaring, there are endless snacks, and everyone except for Ava, who is driving, is having a little drink.
We’re away together for two nights and we are beyond excited to let loose and just spend some quality time with each other.
Tonight, we have a chef coming to the apartment to cook us dinner while we mix cocktails and drink far more than we should.
Saturday, we’re going out on a boat tour of the bay that will involve champagne — lots of champagne — then we’re out for dinner and off to a club to spend the rest of the night dancing.
Bella didn’t want anything crazy for her bachelorette, she just wanted a weekend where she got to spend quality time with her girls. And that’s exactly what we’ve given her.
I will, however, be amazed if Reed and River don’t show up at some point. I cannot imagine them being able to let the girls out of their sight for two nights. Not when it’s a bachelorette and drink is involved.
Harper and I have a bet going; she reckons they’ll rock up before the boat trip, I don’t think they’ll show until the club. They won’t be able to handle the thought of us alone with alcohol, dancing, and men. They are obsessed with their girls.
I’m maybe a little jealous. There’s a part of me that would love Hudson to feel that way about me.
Okay, a very big part.
“Have you and River had sex in this car?” I pipe up from the back seat while sipping on my can of mojito.
“Of course,” she shrugs.
“I need me some car sex.”
“Didn’t you have bike sex? That’s way hotter.” Bella turns to me from where she’s sitting in the passenger seat.
“Yes,” I salute her with the can. “You’re right, I did. Can’t believe I forgot about that bad boy. That’s going to have to be repeated, soon.”
“How many of those have you girls had?” Ava asks in her serious, sober voice.
“Three,” Harper says from next to me.
“I think they might be stronger than we thought.”
“Oh, yeah,” Bella sings. “I am definitely feeling them.”
“Great,” Ava mutters. “I’m going to have some serious catching up to do.”
“If anyone can it’s you, babe. You’ve got this!”
Yeah, definitely stronger than we thought.
Hudson
They arrived about an hour ago; we heard them the minute they exited the elevator. Pretty sure three of the four of them are drunk already.
Thankfully, they’re staying in the apartment tonight and the chef they’ve got is a woman. Funnily enough, Reed booked that part.
We’re sitting around the dining table of the apartment next door to the girls and eating Chinese food.
“Here.” Reed holds a fortune cookie out to me.
“I’m alright, thanks.”
“You have to take it, and we all have to read them one by one. Don’t ask,” he says when he can see I’m about to question him. “I can’t eat Chinese food without doing this now.”
I take the fortune cookie from him and break it open, pulling the little slip of paper from inside.
“Good friends come in threes.”
“Fuck’s sake,” Reed mutters next to me. “Every fucking time.”
“What’s every time?”
“The fucking words on the thing.” He waves his hand toward the paper in my hand. “They’re always relevant in some way.”
“Well, what does yours say?”
“Something about pineapple probably.” I start to think he might be losing it.
“True love is next door.”
“No, it doesn’t,” River chuckles next to him.
“Look for yourself.” He holds the paper out for us to see.
Sure enough, the words are clearly written across the cream paper.
“Right, this one won’t be.” River cracks open the sugar cookie and reads it aloud.
“Love thy brother and sister.”
“You put them up to this,” I laugh.
“I wish I had,” he mumbles as he shakes his head.
“How often are they significant?” I ask as I stare at the three pieces of paper laying on the table in front of us.
“Every fucking time. I swear these things know stuff they really shouldn’t.”
We sit around that table looking at harmless bits of paper for far too long.
Mia
“A ring?” Ava shrieks next to me. She has definitely caught up, in fact, I think she might have now taken the lead on the drunk front.
“Yep. It was stunning,” I reply dreamily.
“So you’re engaged and you didn’t tell us?” Bella hiccups from my other side. “I can’t believe you didn’t tell us.” She goes to hit me on the arm but completely misses.
“I’m not engaged,” I slur. Yeah, I’m not sober either.
“I’m too drunk for this,” Harper mumbles from the chair across from me. “Are you, or are you not engaged?”
“Not,” I say as I nod my head. Wait no, I’m meant to shake it for no. I end up doing some weird circular motion instead.
“I want to see it.”
“There is no ring, Bella, he’s just…he’s just — what is he doing, Mia?” Ava questions.
“I don’t know,” I cry as I drop my head to the table. “I don’t know what we are.”
“You’re together,” Harper replies with conviction. “That’s all that matters.”
“Right.”
“On that note, ladies, I’m going to go and have phone sex with my fiancé because this lady is a horny drunk.”
“Me, too,” Ava jumps up and they both stumble toward the bedrooms.
“Do it quietly,” I shout after them. “We don’t all need to hear it.”
“You just phone yours.”
Oh, yeah. I can phone Hudson.

“Hey, sweet pea.” He answers after a few short rings.
“I’m horny,” I immediately announce down the line.
“Fuck, baby girl, don’t say that when I can’t do anything about it.”
I lie on my bed and snuggle down under the covers; this bed is really comfy.
“I want you to fuck me,” I say around a yawn.
“It sounds like you maybe want to go to sleep more.” I hear him laughing down the line, but I can’t quite remember what we were talking about.
Oh, yeah. Sex.
“You could fuck me to sleep.” I close my eyes, I’ll open them in a minute, they’re just really heavy right now.
“If I was in bed with you right now, baby girl I would be.”
“Hmm,” I hum as I fall asleep with Hudson still talking to me.
