Click bounced on the workbench next to Milo’s arm. The little spider golem looked excited as Milo snapped the last piece of shell into place.

Then he reached out and gave Click a pat while waiting for his latest construct to boot up.

Behind him, a naked female form stretched experimentally.

She lifted herself onto the tips of her toes with one leg and stretched the other up beside her head. Twirling, she let out a grunt. “Milo.”

He turned, copping an eyeful of her coochie.

Snapping his eyes shut, he waved at her. “Can you not aim that at me, please?”

“Why not? What’s wrong with it? I thought I picked the cutest one. Don’t you like it?”

“It’s a bit hard to concentrate with it in my face.”

“It’s not in your face.” She paused. “Are you hinting that you want to-”

“No!” He held up his hands. “Can you just… not?”

“Well, I need you to look. See? Just here. It’s pinching. You can feel it.”

With a sigh, he opened his eyes and tried to ignore what he was seeing. Being a young man, his hormones surged and made that a difficult thing to do.

“Where?”

“Here.” She snatched his hand and jerked him closer. Pressing it against her hip just above her coochie. “Feel it?”

“Not really.”

“You’re not feeling hard enough. Push it.”

He pushed. Not sure what he was looking for.

But then he felt it. A slight lump. Very slight. Right where the plug should connect the skin to the frame.

“Put your leg down,” he said.

She obeyed, thrusting her hip out for him to keep feeling around.

“Here, is it?”

She nodded. “See? I wasn’t lying.”

“Alright.” He motioned to the slab. “Lay down. I’ll see if I can push it in.”

“Already? But you haven’t even taken me to dinner yet.”

“What?” Then he flushed. “I didn’t mean that! I meant the plug. Honestly, is your mind always in the gutter?”

“Hey, I ain’t no tramp!” She scowled at him as she climbed onto the table. “It’s you who’s always looking at my boobs. And my coochie. And my-”

“Just get on the table.”

“So you can push it in?”

“I wonder if switching out your Intelligence Matrix would make you a better person.”

She threw her arms across her chest protectively. Her face formed a mask of horror. “Don’t you dare! You can’t just treat a girl like that!”

“Then just calm down a little. And move your leg again.”

She spread them wide. “Like this?”

Rolling his eyes, he moved around to her side and pressed a hand to her hip, feeling for the plug.

When he found it, he slowly tried to push it into the slot.

“Owwie,” she whimpered, writhing under his touch.

“Hold still.”

“Easy for you to say!”

He pushed harder, but the plug seemed to resist. Turning, he picked a small hammer off the wall.

She gave him a skeptical look. “What are you gonna do with that? Don’t tell me you’re gonna try and bash it in.”

“Sure, why not?”

“Why not?” She gulped. “You really are a virgin, ain’t ya? You don’t just hammer a girl. You at least gotta lube the area a little. Maybe try sliding it in instead? It’d go in real easy if you were gentle, ya know.”

He stared down at her. She stared back. Her big green eyes were making him feel guilty even though he knew he had nothing to feel guilty about.

He was amazed by how incredibly real her face was now the skin covered her skull. She’d selected a pretty face, too. With sharp angular cheeks and wide eyes. Her lips were almost as voluptuous as her breasts.

It was almost like she’d selected an appearance she knew would drive him crazy.

“Slow, huh?”

“Real slow, Milo. Please? be gentle with me…”

He brought the hammer down fast, cracking into the plug. The plug snapped into place with a loud pop as she let out a startled squeal and snatched his arm by the wrist.

“Oh, you beast!” She yowled as he chuckled. “Stop laughing! It’s not funny!”

He patted her hip and grinned at her. “There. It’s fixed. Anything else you want hammered while I’m down there?”

She covered her coochie with both hands and scowled at him. “You stay away from me, buster!”

Hearing a whir, he turned to find the second spider golem had finally made it onto its legs. It was swaying a little, flicking its hind legs as though unsure what to do with them.

Click reached out with one of its front legs and batted the other golem on the head.

“Ah!” Milo reached down to pick up the new unit. “Hello there. I think I’ll call you Clack.”

“How original,” the girl behind him muttered. “And also how insulting.”

“Insulting?”

“Yeah.” She sighed morosely. “You haven’t even bothered to give me a name.”

“I thought you’d want to choose your own.”

“I do,” she growled. “But that’s no reason not to try.”

“Have you thought of one?”

“Not yet.”

“Well, if you don’t think of one, I’ll think of one for you.” He shot her a grin. “I’m sure you’ll love whatever name I give you.”

“Ugh.” She shuddered, sitting up and rubbing her hip. “You’d probably call me Bimbo or something stupid.”

“Have you picked some hair yet?”

“No. I can’t decide between blonde or black.”

“Pick blonde and I’ll call you Bimbo.”

“Black it is then!” She snatched up the workpad and stabbed a few buttons. “I ain’t being called Bimbo.”

Milo set Clack down and pulled out a memory crystal. The new spider golem raised its back and he opened its shell to insert the crystal. It fluttered its legs as he closed the shell back up.

“Keep going to all my classes,” he told them. “But Click, I’d like you to also scout the Records Hall. Be cautious, though. Don’t get caught.”

“Why’re you sending him?” the girl golem asked. “I thought it was gonna be my job? Or after playing with my coochie, you decide to use me as a personal toy after all?”

“No,” Milo said. “I thought Click could scout it out and you can use what he finds about their security to help plan how you’re going to infiltrate the Hall.

I think there’s less chance of him getting caught.

If he gets caught, the mages will hopefully think he’s just some ancient golem which they missed.

Given his size, that’s plausible. If you get caught, that’s gonna open a whole big can of worms. And you hate worms, right? ”

“Hmph.” She set the workpad aside and squinted at him. “It ain’t the worst idea, I guess. And I do hate worms.”

“Did you learn anything from the lessons?”

“Not a lot,” she said. “Except your Master Haddrow is terrible. He keeps talking about spells for camouflage and other mana-based enchantments.”

“That’s how mages do things,” Milo said. “With spells.”

“Yeah, but that’s so dumb.”

“Why?”

She tapped her chest. “Because if a mage is sneaking around using mana to hide themselves, I can detect it. Every construct has a mana detection module, see? It’s basic security.

” She flicked her wrist and a blade about 10 inches long shot out from a slot in her palm.

“Then all I need to do is snickety snick and we have one dead mage.”

“Huh.”

“My camouflage, though, is undetectable.”

“How?”

She smiled sweetly, retracting the blade with a sharp rasp of steel. Then her skin shimmered. Flickered. And the girl golem almost completely disappeared. Only a slight distortion in the air between them told Milo that she was there.

“Mine is all mechanical,” she said proudly, her voice coming from nowhere. “The only way to detect me now is if the floor has security plating.”

“Which is?”

She made herself visible again and pressed heavily against the stained tiles. “Under the tiles are springs which detect shifts in weight.”

“Really?”

“Not here, buster. The workshop’s too used to having a lot of weight around. But in the halls and records room, it’s all security plating. Don’t want rats sneaking in, do ya?”

“Not really, no.” He pursed his lips. He hadn’t thought a lot about security.

All he’d done was keep hold of the little mana light he used to open the main door.

“Maybe we should review security for the Workshop. Maybe do something about the door. It seems too easy to get in. Maybe we need a few more traps…”

“There ya go!” She gave a happy squeal and clapped her hands. “Now you’re thinking like a proper engineer!”

He watched her breasts wobble.

They wobbled a little too nicely.

“And I need to get you some clothes.”

She looked down at herself. “What for? Don’t ya like my skin?”

“It’s very pretty,” he said, trying not to roll his eyes. “But as I keep telling you. It’s also very distracting.”

She slid up close to him and booped him on the nose. “It’s supposed to be distracting, Milo.”

Then she twirled, dancing away and laughing while giving him more flashes of her body than his mind could absorb.

“That’s it,” he said. “I’m heading out.”

“Where are you going?”

“Shopping. I’m at least getting you underwear.”

“Really?” She posed coquettishly. “Make sure it’s plenty lacy.”
