Chapter 16

CHAPTER

SIXTEEN

ROBYN:

On my way....

Ismirked then put my phone down beside me.

For the past hour, I’d been on the couch surfing through streaming apps for something to watch.

I wasn’t really in the mood to watch TV but I had nothing else to do.

Laundry was done, dishes were washed and away, and my cleaning lady had my place spotless.

The longer I spent navigating through the same show offerings, the more annoyed I became.

There had to be something for me to do aside from waiting for her.

My stomach growled, prompting me to warm up leftovers.

It was a little after ten on a Wednesday night and I was at home, bored.

Shaking my head, I thought about all the late nights I spent at Ray’s to avoid this feeling.

It was only recently that I started coming home at a reasonable hour.

A year later, the silence of an empty home still bothered me.

I missed the pitter-patter of Avery’s footsteps, Vanessa yelling for Avery to be careful, toys scattered throughout the house, and some kids’ show blasting on the television in the living room.

Their presence in my life was massive. Each day without them allowed the wound to shrink in magnitude.

However, in quiet moments such as this, I felt their absence.

I used the hair tie on my wrist to pull my hair back.

I leaned against the counter; the hum of the toaster oven was background noise to the blaring thoughts in my mind.

What would be the benefit of seeing Avery for the last time?

My eyebrows rose as I remembered the diamond necklace I bought.

Unlike Vanessa’s ring, I never returned it.

I think deep down, I hoped for the opportunity to give it to her.

My heart ached thinking about how much she’d grown within the past year.

What if she didn’t remember me? Facing rejection from her would crush me.

My thoughts were interrupted by the incessant vibration of my phone on the couch.

I ran across the room in hopes of it being Robyn.

I’d give anything to have her here right now.

She’d know what to do to ease my mind. I sighed when I saw it was, according to Summer, the last person I should be talking to.

Alexa calling was sort of ironic since I’d been meaning to hit her up.

I wasn’t sure about her motives behind sending funny memes and videos, but I needed to make sure my intentions were clear.

“Hey, boo,” she said when I answered the call.

“Wassup, Lex. Everything cool?”

She sighed. “Yeah, just got home from work and was thinking about you.”

I hated that Summer was right. She was going to have a good laugh when I told her about this call.

“Really? Why?” I went back to the kitchen to check my food. The aroma wafted through the air, hitting my stomach, which growled again.

“I want to talk to you about something. It’s been on my mind since seeing you at the Springville Festival.”

My chest tightened. Here we go.

“What is it?” I paced in the kitchen. Anxiety swirled in my stomach and settled as a lump in my throat.

“I feel like I didn’t get my chance all over a misunderstanding.”

In a state of disbelief, I stopped in my tracks. A sharp pain shot up the back of my neck. “Nah, Lex.”

“Yeah, Nadir. Once I shared with you that I confronted your friend, that was it for us.”

“I broke up with you because we argued too much and it seemed to spill over to people I care about.”

“So she was more important than me?”

Pinching the bridge of my nose, I sighed. “What is this hierarchy about? You were a woman I dated; she is my best friend.”

And if you're asking me to choose, I’d choose Robyn every time.

Since I was in a mood, thanks to her, I added, “And you were still seeing your ex. I didn’t trip about it.”

This was such an inconsequential discussion. Nothing would come of it except unnecessary tension. Lex and I had nothing to rekindle and her coming at me like this was a major deterrent. She just added another reason to why I had to fall back from her.

“That’s different. You know our history and he never made you feel uncomfortable.”

“No reason for me to be uncomfortable. We weren’t serious, you know that.”

She laughed wryly. “I also know that your angel of a best friend has feelings for you. The way she was always bringing you food and calling you all the time. It was inappropriate.”

I scratched my head, unsure how to steer this conversation.

The more she spoke, the more her insecurities showed.

Robyn made food for everybody. She always gave me enough to share with Lex.

Nothing about my friendship with Robyn was inappropriate.

It wasn’t until recently that romantic feelings emerged.

“Lex, I ain’t rehashing this with you. So what is it that you really want to say to me?”

She kissed her teeth. “I was hoping things would’ve changed by now.”

I chuckled. “Nope. Still the same ol’, same ol’."

“Whatever, I expect red carpet treatment at Ray’s on Friday.”

Nice save.

“I always make sure my folks are straight.”

She giggled. “Bye.”

Shaking my head, I removed my food from the oven and dug in.

Lex was a trip and that argument reminded me why doubling back was never an option.

Having had the conversation, I felt lighter knowing she was clear on my stance.

After I finished eating, I went back to the couch.

This time I put on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, one of my favorite shows.

Robyn said it was my comfort show, which I could agree with but would never say.

Somewhere between the opening credits and Will learning Ashley could sing, I dozed off.

The feeling of hands sliding up my thighs pulled me from my sleep.

Uncle Phil had just confronted the kids about their scheme to get Ashley signed.

I didn’t have time to see it all unfold because between my legs was my princess.

Robyn was on her knees looking up at me with lust-filled eyes.

My eyebrows furrowed as I studied her appearance.

A black, thinly-strapped, corset dress hugged her body.

I licked my lips at how her breasts spilled over the corset.

Her makeup was sexy, dark eyes and red lips.

My nostrils flared as I thought about where she'd come from and who she’d been with.

“Are you still mad at me?” Robyn pouted. She rubbed the inner parts of my thigh, stirring heat in my groin.

I smirked. “Yes.”

“Let me make it up to you.”

Robyn stood, reached for my hands, and pulled me from the couch.

My mouth crashed into hers and my arms wrapped around her body.

She melted into me as our tongues met hungrily.

Usually, she let me take the lead, but tonight she controlled the cadence.

Her tongue lashed against mine slowly. Once she got her fill, she pulled back and stared at me.

“What’s got you stressed out?”

My eyebrows met. “What made you ask that?”

She reached for my hair, pulling at the bun until my dreads dropped. “You always put your hair in a bun when something's on your mind.”

I smiled. She knew me well.

“I’m not in the mood to talk right now.”

My dick was hard as a rock and she was lucky I didn’t handle her right here in this living room. She seemed as if she already had plans for us. I was trying my mightiest to let her lead. However, my patience was thin and my desire for her neared its boiling point.

“Okay, so let’s do something else.” She took my hand and started toward my bedroom.

On the way, she picked up a bag I hadn’t noticed before.

I couldn’t help my smile thinking about her staying the night with me.

My eyes traversed her frame; the view was just as pleasing from behind.

I trailed her, pressing into her backside.

She giggled as we entered my bedroom. I hit the light switch, turning on the banker's lamp on my dresser.

Robyn sauntered over to my bed and sat down.

She patted the spot beside her, beckoning me.

The moment I sat down, she straddled me.

Instinctively, my hands went to her ass while hers went to my hair.

She massaged my scalp and temples, causing a level of comfort I’d never felt before.

Her jasmine-scented perfume soothed me as I inhaled a deep breath.

My eyes rolled back, my chest tightened, and my dick pulsed.

She pressed her body against mine until I lay back on the bed.

Robyn peered at me. The look in her eyes was unreadable.

“You are always taking care of everyone. Your selflessness is something I’ve always admired about you.”

She deftly massaged my temples and scalp. I sank deeper into the bed, feeling like I was floating.

“My darling, I want to take care of you tonight.”

I groaned in response. Robyn was talking that talk and she knew it. The hold this woman had on me was criminal.

“Is that okay?” she purred in my ear.

I nodded. “Have your way, baby.”

There wasn’t a person walking this earth more fitting to take care of me than her.

Robyn peppered kisses on my cheeks, mouth, and down my neck.

Her tongue glided over my Adam’s apple before giving it a gentle suck.

I swallowed the urge to flip her over and reciprocate.

My body tingled and my heart thumped the further she ventured south.

I lifted my hips for her to pull my sweats down.

She kissed and caressed her way to my dick.

I inhaled a sharp breath when she swallowed me whole. One hand massaged my balls while the other caressed my stomach.

“Ah, that’s it, princesa.”

Robyn looked at me; fire flickered in her eyes.

A chill shot through me when my dick hit the back of her throat and she gagged.

She licked and slurped my dick sedulously, causing pressure to mount in my groin.

Saliva was all over her mouth and hands as she stroked me.

I looked at her through heavy eyelids, enamored with her work.
