Blurb

My husband is sleeping with my sister.

I find out after a dinner party. He mirrors his phone to the television for a vacation slideshow, goes upstairs to bed, and forgets to disconnect it.

I sit alone on my couch and watch their conversation appear on my living room TV in letters the size of my hand.

Then I pick up my phone and record every word.

Nick thinks I’m the kind of wife who keeps the peace. Olivia thinks I’m too dull to notice anything. They’re both counting on my silence, and they’ve been counting on it for a year.

So, I give it to them. For one more month.

My daughter figures it out in four days, because she’s mine and she misses nothing. She’s eighteen, she’s leaving for college, and she runs the neighborhood newsletter. Fourteen hundred subscribers. She watches the recording, hands it back to me, and says one word: newsletter.

Then the two of us get to work.

Here’s what my husband never once considered: I’m not the one who leaves. This is my house, my neighborhood, my tennis game, and my friends. I built every bit of it while he took the credit. He can pack.

The morning he’s served, I press send.
