9. Little Devil

Little Devil

Cassius

She was in my apartment.

The Little Devil.

She snuck into my building and has been playing havoc with the electricity and my staff.

Pretty smart if it weren’t for the backup and secondary generators, which keep the fire prevention system alive in the case of an electrical outage, and the security, for moments like this.

When a little minx tries to break into the building.

Lucky for me, though. I got to see my girl for the first time.

Now I know I have never seen her before.

I would have remembered her. Somehow she must have always got away before I spotted her.

She’s the single most gorgeous thing I have ever seen in my life. Forget people, she exceeds planets, nature, the first smile of a newborn, the smell that reminds you of your childhood.

She’s a tiny slip of a thing, with long black hair, pale skin and wide, curious eyes.

Never have I ever looked at something so precious before.

Never have I had the urge to curl up around a person and protect them with my entirety.

The bright blush that flushed her cheeks when she found the breaker switch will live in my brain for the rest of my life.

My girl.

My mate.

My prey, and she’s fallen right into my trap.

I wanted her in my apartment. She can do whatever she wants.

I want her as obsessed with me as I am with her.

I want her in love with me. I want to be the air she needs to breathe.

I want to know everything she thinks. I want every memory she has.

I need to know why she laughs, what makes her smile, and what I need to destroy when she cries.

More than anything, I want to know why that little frown appears on her face, so sad, so alone.

She’s fighting a battle she can’t win, and no one else can see.

When the building manager called and told me an Omega was outside the building in tears after being spotted poking around the place.

My instincts screamed at me that this was her.

This was my spicy scented mate upping her stalking game, and I was all for it.

I told him, without a doubt, to let her in, add her to my guest list, and report to me every time she comes back.

It didn’t take long before I was obsessively watching the security cameras and tracking my little Omega to the basement. When the lights went out, I was surprised, and a little turned on.

My trouble maker.

I wanted to see what she would do next, so I informed the residents of power outages scheduled for emergency testing and reduced their maintenance bills for the month. It cost me a fortune, but what is the point of money if not for her every whim and desire?

For the next few days, when the lights would go out, it was like she was conditioning me to be excited.

I would watch her on the cameras, and my heart would sing for her and the little dance she would do.

Like she was getting away with stealing a cookie from a jar and not inconveniencing thousands of people.

But whatever my girl wants, my girl gets.

It surprised me when she pulled out a key and let herself in. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but it sure as hell wasn’t for her to get her hands on the limited number of keys to my apartment.

She’s lucky that over time I have been getting Apollo used to the lingering scent of her on me, or it could have ended in disaster. The little treat she had definitely didn’t hurt, but if it were anyone else, nothing would have stopped him from ripping her to shreds. It’s what he was trained for.

Watching her in my space was a breath of fresh air. It was nothing before she stepped into it.

She seemed pleased and disappointed at the same time.

It makes me want to rip my home apart and start again, so I can build everything with her in mind.

She moves like a little fairy and belongs in a field of flowers, not stuck in a grey cube up in the sky.

The one thing apart from Apollo that she seemed to appreciate was my sofa.

I don’t get much use out of the TV. When I’m not working, I’m working.

Other than that, my free time is taken up by family, social obligations and, for this past year, dates.

Dain, on the other hand, loves my TV, or he loves irritating me, and I’m guessing it’s the latter. Either way, the image he has portrayed to my little nymph of a sports watching, horror loving, boring historian is not the image I want rattling around in her brain.

I want to give her time. Time to do whatever she needs before she feels as though she can come to me.

Time to get used to the idea of being my mate.

But my patience is running thin. Usually, the high I get when chasing down my prey fuels me.

The longer it takes, the better the takedown is.

But this time I need to catch her now. I can’t keep living in a world where she isn’t mine.

I’ve spent the past few weeks looking into the many students now enrolled at Golden Sanctuary Finishing School, but she’s nowhere to be found.

It’s an itch I can’t scratch. I know logically that she must go there.

She’s only shown up on my dates with other students from the school.

Either the system is broken, and she’s been lost in the chaos of all the newly enrolled students, or she’s being hidden from me.

And I don’t like the idea that someone can keep her away from me.

The worst part is that until she comes to me, until I know her name, I can’t do shit.

I have to wait for her to make all the moves.

I can keep going on dates, baiting her until she shows herself.

But I’m running out of Omegas. I made my profile as versatile as possible.

I didn’t want the chance of meeting my mate to be taken from me because of an arbitrary decision.

But even so, the list of Omegas I paired with is running out.

I can give her two more weeks, but after that, I’m taking over. I will make her mine.
