Chapter 22
Chapter twenty-two
Warner – Landslide
Cody’s idea was great. I only wish he’d shared it sooner, but hopefully he will let me help him. If he sees he can do this, maybe he’ll make the changes he needs in his life. And I’ll be there every step of the way.
I heard the front door open. “Daddy?” Cody called out.
“In the office.”
He poked his head in. “I had a long, crazy day. But I got something for you.”
“What’s that?” He handed me a big red marker. “What’s this for?”
“So…” He smiled like a loon. “You can mark on your calendar when I’m moving in.”
“You mean it?”
“Yes.”
I dropped the marker on my desk and picked Cody up, swinging him around in a big hug, his feet kicking in the air. “That makes me so happy.”
“I can’t do this new vacation rental thing without major changes. Step one is to move in. Step two, oh well, I already did step two. I turned in a one-month notice at work.”
“That’s a lot of notice; do you need that long?”
“Well, I can work a month, and then I have two weeks to get everything moved in here before my lease is up.”
“So, a month and a half before you move in?”
“Yes. Is that okay?”
“Of course. I’ll take it.” There was more kissing and laughing after that, then we settled down, and he sat in my lap. “What’s after step two?”
“Putting the plan together and getting advice from all the smart daddies…and Joey.”
“That sounds like you’re the smart one.”
“Maybe. I’m gonna try, anyway.”
“Good. I’m proud of you.”
“Me too.”
The next day, I called Vince. Cody’s new company was something I wanted to discuss with him. So, when he answered, I told him the basic plan. “I think we should both consider investing in Cody’s company.”
“I agree. This is a good option for us.”
“Plus, we’ll help him put a business plan together, including Joey working on the marketing. We can’t lose.” I tapped my big red marker on my desk. It was now a permanent fixture.
“Plus, it’s Cody, and he’s worth investing in.”
“He is.” I couldn’t argue with that at all.
“So is he moving in?”
“Yes, in a month and a half. We’ll work on his business plan together until then.”
“That’s something to celebrate. Why don’t y’all come over on Friday evening, and we’ll grill out. The boys can swim. After dinner, we can talk about the plan with them.”
“That sounds perfect. See you Friday.”
