Chapter 19 Guilt
The decision of moving to Australia very annoyed Steve.
He didn’t want to go anywhere right now.
He was happy to get a new friend like Eva and it was just the start of their friendship, but this club incident ruined it all.
Steve could not understand how he could get that kind of intoxicant by drinking only a few shots.
Anyway, he got into his shower to relax his muscles and had a throbbing headache. He changed into a fresh set of clothes, and then the main thing he did was gulp the medicine to get rid of the hangover, although Richard had given medicine with coffee when he woke up at his place.
Steve then thought about Eva. She must be suffering through the same pain, maybe much more pain than compared to him, as she took many shots in the club.
Steve checked on her, so in slow steps he reached near her room and knocked on the door.
“ Come in," heard a weak voice
Steve entered her room and saw her sitting on the corner of the bed, holding her head by both of her palms. Steve understood her headache must be unbearable. He slowly forwarded the medicine that he was carrying with him for Eva.
Eva looked up and noticed Steve. Her eyes were red in distress.
“This will help,”
Eva didn’t argue and gulped down the medicine with the glass of water that was placed on her bedside
“Why my head is killing me."
“ Hmm, you remember nothing from last night."
‘ I do that. We danced and enjoyed it, then we got into a mocktail drinking competition; that’s all that happened after that, I don’t know. “
Steve could relate to her as he recalled nothing; it was Richard who narrated the entire incident to him.
So Steve narrated the entire story to her, but Eva's actions with Stephen at home remain unknown to Steve.
"Ooh my God! Richard, sir, told you all this. Did I curse Stephen?"
you told him that Stephen scares you and he is a heartless man."
Eva broke into tears. “Now what will happen, Steve? What will your family think about me? Stephen will not let this go easily as I insulted him. Will he punish me?
“I don’t know about you but I already got the punishment, “Steve completed with a sigh and got settled beside her
“Hmm, what punishment?” Eva checked for any injuries to him. "Did he beat you?”
“No worse than that, “
Eva perks a brow at him
“I have to go to Australia and stay there for months.”
“Ooh… Still, you are his brother, so he just sent you to Australia, but just imagine what he will do with me. I am sure he is going to toss me off the house.”
Steve shook his head to console her.
“No, he will not do any sort of this."
"Steve, I have to call my dad. I should inform him. He will be so upset to listen to my actions
Trust me, I cursed no one in my life, Steve. “Stating this, Eva started sobbing badly
It disheartened Steve to see her likehe cursed himself in his mind to offer that stupid competition. So he took her in a side hug and started patting her head
“Don’t worry, Eva, I will request him and. You know mom will let nothing wrong happen to I…”
Before he could complete the sentence, a loud voice frightened both of them.
“ What the hell is going on here?”
They both jumped at their places in to see Stephen standing at the door with his hands dipped in his pocket of trousers.
It was Sunday, so Stephen was wearing a comfortable pair of shirt and trousers.
Eva got nervous of him she moved close to Steve and grabbed his arm.
Steve could feel her frightened state, so he patted her soft hand to comfort her
Stephen’s keen eyes noticed all this. He wanted to pull Steve away from her and punch him hard in the face. But this will make his girl more scared of him, so he took control of his anger
Steve answers him in an irritated tone, “She was upset and not doing well either, so I came here to give her some medicine and also comfort her.”
“So I think you completed both your tasks. Now I have to talk about something important to her. so leave."
Eva clutched more to Steve and whispered,
“Don’t. Leave me alone with him."
Steve nodded at her and gave a glare at Stephen. He patted Eva’s hand and signaled for her to leave his hand. Eva shook her head in denial, but Steve blinked his eyes to calm her.
Eva understood he cannot deny Stephen’s command, so she left his arm and started battling with her fingers
Steve was leaving the room, giving a glare at Stephen, then he turned around and started in a loud voice
“Don’t worry, I am near your room. Call me if someone troubles you.
Stephen raised his eyebrows at his announcement and just showed by his eyes to leave. The moment he left the door, Stephen pushed the door with his leg to close.
This action made Eva jump in her place. She was trembling in anxiety from inside but wanted to keep a confident facade in front of this devil named Stephen.
“Sit first."
Eva settled on the corner of the bed. Stephen pulled a single chair that was present in the room in front of her and settled on it. Stephen was observing her face, which was now covered with sweat beads
Eva decided to start with her apology so that it could help. Her to some extent.’
‘“ Mr smith I know you are upset with my behavior yesterday.
If I said something inappropriate to you in my drunk state, then I am sorry for that.
I know you are here to notify me that I have to leave this house now, but I just want some hours.
As I had to inform my dad first, then I will call my friends; maybe they can help me in searching for a dorm or PG.
So can you wait till evening? I will leave your home till evening.
“Sorry to say, but you are not going anywhere."
“Hmm, so you will not throw me out of your house.”
Stephen shook his head.
“So will you not punish me too?"
Stephen again shook his head
“You are not here to punish me or scold me."
“No, I am not; I am here to tell you something."
“Hmm, tell me."
“You will tell nothing about last night to mom."
‘ Why? I mean, how can I hide?"
“You have to, otherwise she will not spare Steve and I don’t want my brother in big trouble."
Eva was looking at him in shock as he was the one who punished Steve by sending him to Australia, and now he was talking about saving Steve from trouble.
Now she was sure that Stephen Smith was suffering from some serious mental issues or he was bipolar.
She came out of her thoughts when Stephen fake coughed to gain her attention
“So you do that, right? “
“Yes, why not? “
“Ok then” Stephen stood up and turned to leave but her next question made him halt
"Mr. Smith, you are not angry with me for drinking and then misbehaving with you
Stephen again turned around and got close to her. He bent to her and then started in an icy voice
.“I am angry with you, but not because of your drinks, as someone spiked them, and also not because of your words that hurt me unintentionally as you are drunk.
But I am angry with you because you pushed yourself into an enormous danger yesterday and that is something I will never let come to pass with you.
So next time... well, there will be no next time and I will make sure if it, now you understand. "
Eva was shocked, but she just gave a nod to get rid of his closeness. Stephen gave an understanding nod to her and then left the room with long strides
Eva kept her palm on her chest to calm down her racing heartbeat. But the next moment, a knock on the door trembled her to her relief, or was it Kathey who was calling her for breakfast? Eva just gave a nod at her.
Sion Eva enters the dining room, where all the family has already settled for breakfast.
Rose wished her with a smiling face, whereas William just gave a nod at her and Steve was looking at her face. He was searching for some signs from her, as he was hell worried when he left her alone with Stephen.
Eva smiled and blinked her eyes to assure him she was good. Steve took a deep sigh, whereas Stephen was again getting annoyed by the way they were talking with eyes.
Rose’s question broke their trance." So how was the club? I hope Eva you enjoyed it.
Eva was feeling bad for lying to her but she can feel their ardent gaze of Stephen on her
"Yes, it was very nice. We enjoyed it a lot.
“That’s great."
“Rose, I have told you something important: “William started with his words."
"Hmm, I am listening."
“Steve is going to Australia for the deal that Stephen was handling before, and he has to stay there for a few months."
“But why stay there? I mean, he can go to Australia whenever his presence is required.
Steve just glances at his mother’s worried face, but he cannot have a say in this, as if he told her about punishment, then he has to tell her about the real reason too.
Rose gave an inquiring look at Steve, as he never stayed for a business trip in another country., and she was sure that this is not something Steve will approve of.
Eva was listening to the family members, and she was feeling guilty for this situation because her Steve got punished.
Looking at Rose’s gloomy face, Stephen interfered
"Mom, I know you don’t like Steve leaving, but trust me, it will be helpful for Steve. Just have faith in me and dad.”
Rose gave a nod at Stephen and patted Steve’s back.
‘ Mom, let’s go shopping today in your favorite mall. What says, “Steve cheers Rose up.
Rose also noted to him, “Ok, I mean, it’s Sunday, so everyone could join us."
Stephen hates these shopping sites, but today for his mom he agreed. Well, there was one more reason added to it, as he wants to know more about his girl’s likes and dislikes. But the very next moment, Eva’s words shocked him
“You all can carry on; I cannot come along. No, no, don’t take me wrong; I am still feeling tired as we were late last night.""
“And you are not staying at home alone. It’s ok, dad; you all can carry on. I will stay with her, “Stephen declared in a crisp voice
Stephen's words shocked Eva as she considered staying alone with him not a promising suggestion. So she quickly changed her decision
“ No, it’s not needed; I will come with you all. “”
Rose and William chuckled at her response, as they know how much she fears Stephen and very well know Stephen tricked her.
Steve was glad that she was coming with them, as he wanted to make it up to her for the blunder he made last night.
He wanted to give her something expensive to cover up for his mistake.
Eva was not interested in going with them as she had a shopping experience with Rose that day. She denied her gifts, but this time with Steve William, and the presence of the devil was troubling her.
Stephen got busy making the security arrangement. He was sure the spiked drinks were not a mistake but a plan to harm Eva. The Smith family has a long list of enemies on both fronts, whether it’s personal or professional. So it will be challenging to doubt one person.
Anyway, his men were working on that matter, but for now he has to take special care of his love Eva, who was oblivious to all the difficulties
