Chapter 46

Since Jasper is away at one of his trainings and Melanie isn’t usually up this early in the morning I decided to go to the Sacred circle after I made breakfast for the Packhouse.

It was weird when I went inside and nobody was there. No staff and no people that lived here. I guess they forgot to tell me I had the day off.

I walked out and was glad I got to go up to the circle earlier than I had planned too. I followed my pink marking trails up until the perfect circular clearing was visible.

I was glad to see the moonstone was where I left it.

I turned on the candles to honor our Moon Goddess and sat to meditate to see if anything came through to me. Afterwards I would try to practice mastering my gifts.

I wanted to try focusing on the energy around things because after seeing what felt like the aura of that tree the other day I want to tap into that again.

I'd shut my eyes and worked to quiet my mind. I’m not sure for how long because I don’t keep track and oftentimes it can either feel a lot longer or a lot shorter than it actually was depending on if I got into a trance or not.

I was startled into alertness when a growl ripped through the quiet air. My eyes snapped open and darted around until I saw an extremely angry looking Alpha stomping through the woods coming straight at me.

“What the fuck are you doing out of your house” he shouted at me. I was so thrown off by his tone and angry demeanor that I actually just blinked at him for half a second.

“Excuse me?” I had no idea what the source of this behavior was or why he thought he could tell me where to be.

He stopped mid stomp and a type of recognition washed over his once tense facial features. “Fuck” he cursed to himself.

I stood up because he's more intimidating when you’re on the ground and a 6′2 muscled wolf man is glaring down at you. He ran a hand through his velvet-like hair and sighed.

“I completely forgot Nealin wasn’t here to tell you” he shook his head at himself.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about still” I looked at him deadpan.

“I sent out a Pack announcement to stay locked indoors. We had a breach of the borders this morning and it’s a precaution we take. I forgot you wouldn’t have a way of receiving that message for yourself. That’s a problem” his brows furrowed as he approached me further.

“Oh” was all I said. I had no idea I was in danger but I guess it makes sense why I walked into the packhouse to find it empty. I wonder where they go?

“Come with me” he grabbed my elbow and started pulling me along.

“Let go” I yanked my arm away.

“We have a prisoner with us. I don’t want you near him” his tone was clipped like it was even my fault I was here right now. I had no way of knowing.

“Where?” I looked behind me. “They’re a little further behind. Your scent carried through the air and I ran ahead” he explained.

“Was I in danger?” I wanted to know. His hand naturally went to the small of my back to guide me past an uplifted root on the ground.

“Not this time, but we have to figure out a way to get messages across to you. It’s dangerous not to have a connection to our lines of communication.”

I started hearing the footsteps of more people and glanced over my shoulder again. Only this time there was a man holding who I assume to be a prisoner and one other wolf on the other side as if to keep the man in line.

This wolf was grey in color with yellowish gold eyes. I’m not sure which human that was because I'm not familiar with every single person’s wolf.

I know Melanie’s and Jasper’s perfectly and even Daisy and Graces daintier wolves. I know Devran for sure because his wolf is uniquely larger than the rest and completely obsidian in color aside from his icy colored eyes which are stunning.

“If you gave me a second to speak I would explain why I'm here” the man spat. He wasn’t clothed which meant they found him in wolf form.

They only had some type of cloth tied around his waist to hide his private parts. The man didn’t even have shoes which probably hurt to walk on terrain like this.

“I'm a lone wolf. I got off track by having to divert my trail past the burnt remains of the forest fire. I had no intention of crossing your border” he explained anyway.

Devran wasn’t listening to him but I nudged him to give the man a chance to speak. He stopped in his tracks but pulled me behind him so he was between myself and the prisoner.

“Fine, maybe you got lost because of the burnt land. Why are you alone? It’s not often a rogue is by himself” Devran tested him.

“Oh, I’ve been alone a long time. I live in the human world part time. It’s why I’m less skilled in navigating this terrain. I'm also extremely tired and hungry. The food was scarce passing through the damaged land” he bowed his head to show respect to the Alpha.

I felt bad for the man.

Placing my hand on Devran’s back I whispered, “Give the man a meal and send him on his way.” Devran glanced back at me for a second and then his own men.

“If we get you some food and release you I don’t want to see you near my borders again. Don’t start hanging around” he warned him.

The man was very thankful for their generosity and continued to walk back down the mountain with us until we got back to town. Devran must’ve lifted the lockdown orders because I saw people around the square now.

The prisoner was taken to a different area to be tended to. Devran lingered with me. “You really shouldn’t undermine my authority in front of my men,” he told me.

“Huh?” I did no such thing.

“It was my call to make but by voicing your opinion it looked like I was following your orders” he complained. I rolled my eyes.

“You have the most delicate ego I have ever seen. I didn’t undermine your authority, I voiced an idea” I scoffed.

“You don’t know how wolves work” he crossed his arms over his chest. It made him look bigger that way. His figure isn’t overly thick with muscles. He’s incredibly defined but lean in the best way.

His strength is almost double what a normal wolf is like. Speed, agility, strength, but that comes with ego, aggression, possessiveness and arrogance. That is the way of the young Alpha.

Maybe as they age they get better with the negative aspects of an alpha male, who knows.

“Yeah, human Mira, always causing problems and being a misfit who doesn’t belong here” I went to stomp off because I hated when he threw that fact in my face.

It’s moments like these when I realize he is right about it. I don’t have access to their mind link so I had no way of being warned of the dangers we might've been facing. It stings a little because all I have ever wanted was to truly belong somewhere.

Being human keeps me from ever fully being a part of this Pack and community. Even as a Mystic I don’t belong here.

I’m the first Mystic to be heard of for generations which means ‘my people’ don’t even exist anymore. I’m on my own in being human and in being Mystic. Always.

“Hey” Devran cut in front of me to stop me from stomping off. “You're putting words in my mouth. That’s not what I was even saying” he extended his arm out slightly so I couldn’t go around him.

“Don’t you have more important things to tend to? Like your prisoner?” I gave him the attitude he deserves.

“That’s the wonderful thing about being the boss. You give the orders and they carry them out for you so no I don’t have anywhere better to be” he shot that dismissal down.

“An Alpha doesn’t have anything to do? You're going to stand here and bicker with me instead?” I challenged him. Never smart challenging Alpha’s because they don’t back down from them.

“It’s either that or dragging you to my bed” he shrugged and gave me his arrogant expression. I grit my teeth and looked around us to be sure no one could hear him.

“That isn’t going to happen anymore. I got carried away because I wanted to...know how it felt, but that’s it. No more” I warned him.

“You found out how it felt and you wanted more of it. Don’t kid yourself” his smirk lingered.

“Well, I can do it with someone else” I snapped just to wipe that look off his face. I did. His face dropped then hardened. His tense jaw always turns sharpest when he’s mad.

“If they wanna lose their balls they can” he challenged the idea.

“You have no claim over me, Devran. Remember that” I dismissed him. He took a step closer and hooked his fingers into my belt loops to pull me flush against him. I gasped because we were in a public setting.

His lips touched the shell of my ear as he spoke next.

“I can have whatever I want. Bond or no bond, I can claim you in many ways” he exaggerated the word to make his point clear. I hated that it filled me with heat.

“Go find Stella” I tried my hardest not to be affected by him. I didn’t want him to see what he could do to me so easily.

“Jealous?” He mocked me.

“You wish” I snorted. I tried to move past him because having him hold me by belt loops up against him was something the community shouldn’t see. “Dev, we are outside” I reminded him.

He released me but only to drag me into my cottage. “There” he said then he kicked the door shut behind him as he entered.

“I’m not hooking up with you!” I yelled at him now that I could do so without prying eyes and ears.

“It’s stupid to fight something you so clearly want” he waved his hand over my body like it was telling him secrets.

“Why don’t you want anyone else to hook up with me?” I decided if he didn’t want to leave then I would ask him the questions that would make him wanna run away to avoid answering.

It threw him off.

“Who wants to share someone they are currently hooking up with themselves” he scoffed like the answer was obvious.

“But I just said we weren’t going to do that anymore” I reminded him of that fact.

“If you genuinely didn’t want to then I would accept that but I don’t believe you that you don’t. I think you wanna keep hooking up with me because you like what I can do to your body” he started backing me into the wall and caged me in with his arms.

I squirmed in fear of giving into this tension. The air is thick now between us and it’s hard to breathe.

His head was dipped low to really linger closely by my face in a teasing way that reminded me his lips could touch mine at any moment.

“I think you’re curious about everything. Not just what my tongue can do to you, but what my cock can make you feel when I’m deep inside you” his voice got lower and primal with each new word that came out of his mouth.

I pressed myself into the wall just trying to be sure I wouldn’t lunge forward like every cell in my being was telling me to do.

His words heated my core and he was right. I was curious what it would feel like to have him inside me. To fill me up completely.

My lips parted and I had no response because my lust held my tongue down not wanting any protest from me. Devran licked his lips and his eyes shot down to my own, clearly showing me what was on his mind.

He leaned even closer to me and our noses brushed together before his eyes glazed over with a mindlink.

I saw his jaw tense and the hands that were on either side of me balled into fists against the wall as he closed his eyes for patience.

He rested his forehead on mine for a second before he used those balled fists to push off the wall and step away from me.

“I have to go. I’m being called on Alpha business” he still looked tense with aggravation for having to stop what he so clearly wanted to start.

I almost didn’t realize his semi hard on until his hand went down and readjusted himself in his pants.

He released a long breath to calm his hormones and get his dick to soften again. I couldn’t help my eyes when they darted down and stayed looking at it. His hand came to my jaw and forced me to look up.

“If you keep looking at it it’s not going to go down. It’ll go up. Don’t stare” he warned me. My cheeks heated pink from being caught.

Again Devran tried to readjust himself and then when he regained his control he went for the door. He stopped just before leaving and turned around.

I hadn’t been expecting it so I almost stumbled back if his arm wasn’t already snaking around me. He pressed his lips to mine in one short sensual kiss that reheated everything inside me.

“Bye” he smirked, before releasing me and walking out the door.
