Chapter Twenty-Nine

~AMELIA~

The past forty-eight hours with Dex have been magical. I’m completely in love with the man. Neither one of us has said it. But the long glances and touches have confirmed it for me. I think he might be.

“Are you sure you don’t want to ride into the Blaze with me today? I promise I won’t finger-fuck you again in the car,” he teases me.

I flush, thinking of the way he got me off on the way home from the bookstore.

I hadn’t thought about the scenes that were going to play when I started the audio book.

I always read the book before I listen to it.

I should have known that they were going to fuck shortly after it started.

It turned me on because I was thinking about doing those things with Dex, riding him on the couch.

But I didn’t dare tell him that. Maybe I should, but I can’t really ride him right now with my knee in a brace.

So, I stow that away in my “plans for later” file.

“Yeah, I’m sure. The girls are going to come and get me. We’re going to get lunch after practice. Not that I wouldn’t enjoy a repeat performance of the car ride, or last night.” I flush thinking about how he rode me until I came again and again.

“If you keep on looking at me like that, you’re going to be late for practice.” The look on his face tells me that he means it.

I clench my thighs together and smirk at him. “I don’t think that you should be late to work. Especially after the little display that we put on at the Backwoods the other night. August might not take kindly to us missing things, shortly after he catches what he called our ‘public sex show.’

Dex laughs and shakes his head. “He was being dramatic about that. We were only dancing on each other. Nothing that Danny and Mac weren’t doing. Or Cassie and Jase.”

I laugh. “True. I think that because you and I are so new, he is holding us to a different standard.”

“Could be,” he remarks. “Did you happen to notice the way he kept staring at Hendrix. Makes me wonder what could happen there.”

“Nothing, absolutely nothing,” I tell him. “Hendrix would never start anything with him again. He hurt her too badly.”

Dex nods. “He was pretty torn up too. Maybe they could heal each other.”

“Oh, I highly doubt it. Hen is stubborn and she’ll never give in to him,” I say with a shake of my head.

“He was hurt too,” Dex reminds me. “Believe it or not, that man did love her. He had to make an impossible choice.”

I turn and face him, wondering if he’s telling me something here. But I try not to read too far into it. Either I don’t want to know, or I don’t want to burst our happy little bubble.

Dex comes across the living room to stand in front of me. “Hey, I’m not saying anything about you or me here. Let’s not fight about Hendrix and August. That’s not our fight or our concern.”

I nod. “I wasn’t fighting with you. Or so I didn’t think I was.”

“I swear I saw something on your face that worried me. I wanted to remind you, that that’s not us.” He leans in and kisses my forehead.

When he breaks away, I grab him behind the neck and pull him close to me.

Taking his lips on mine and kissing him deeply.

I want to feel him. His arms come around me, and he pulls me close to him.

Our bodies align and that instant match that strikes every time we’re together like this is lit.

I want him, if I could I’d climb this man like a tree. But it’s not easy with my bum knee.

He knows me so well, because he pulls me up so that our height difference isn’t in play.

Holding me close him, he has us eye level so that neither of us has to strain to reach the other’s lips.

I nip at his lips and beg him with my tongue for entrance, which he immediately grants.

He backs us up quickly, so that my back is now against the living room wall.

His hips swivel and I arch mine to meet his.

I let out a moan as his lips leave mine and begin their descent down my neck.

I tilt my head back as much as I can to give him access, grinding my hips as his lips move to my breasts and bite the material of my shirt and bra.

Enough that it pinches at my nipples. I cry out with pleasure.

So much that I don’t even hear the door open.

“Shit! Sorry!” I hear Cassie yell.

“Dex!” I say, tapping him on the shoulder.

He pulls back and grins at me. “Sorry, I got a little carried away with you.”

I flush and grin back at him. “It’s okay, I rather enjoyed it.”

“So sorry to interrupt you guys. But we’re here to take Amelia with us to practice,” Cassie explains. “I didn’t realize that you would still be here,” she says, addressing Dex.

He slowly turns around to face my friends. “Yeah, I didn’t intend to be here, but I guess we forgot we had jobs.”

I flush and peek out from around him. “Hey, girls.”

Mac laughs. I wait for her to say, “Don’t hey me,” but she doesn’t. I’m sure that will come later. “Sorry to interrupt the two of you.”

“It’s okay.” Dex replies. He turns back to me. “Like you said, I better get to the training center before August picks up that I’m late and takes issue with it.” He leans and places a quick kiss on my lips. “We’ll finish this later.”

“Can’t wait,” I tell him.

He winks and walks over to grab his bag before exiting the apartment.

“Fuck, girl, that was hot,” Hendrix replies. “He was like, drilling you into the wall.”

A flush covers my face, and I have to look away from my friends. I’m more than a little embarrassed by the compromising position they found me in.

“You don’t need to be embarrassed. I remember you caught Danny and me mauling each other one or two times when you were over at his place,” she reminds me.

“I sure did.” I shake my head. “I can’t believe that you all walked in on that.”

“Nothing to be embarrassed about, looks like he likes taking care of our girl,” Cassie tells me. She walks over and wraps me in a side hug. “Good for you, girl.”

I smile brightly at her, “Thanks. It has been wonderful since that night he brought me home from the Backwoods.”

Hendrix rubs her hands together. “We gotta get to practice. But you know you owe us a dish session afterwards.”

“Oh yeah, you do. And you’re not getting out of it. Not after what we walked in on,” Mac teases.

“Okay, okay. Let’s go before you all are late to practice and Watts gets pissed,” I tell them.

“It’s fine. We can tell them we had to peel you off the wall after Dex pinned you there with his dick,” Mac says with a cackle.

“Very funny, let’s not do that.” I feel my cheeks heat again.

“I’m happy for you,” Mac says, smiling at me. “I’ve never seen you so happy.”

“It’s hard to believe that I got this happy with him this fast. But yeah, I’m really happy,” I admit to them.

“Good for you,” Hendrix says patting my shoulder as she moves past me. “Now, let’s get our asses to practice, right, captain?” she calls to Mac.

“Alright, let’s move out, ladies,” Mac says with a giggle.

We barely make it to practice on time, but we do.

Thankfully, Watts doesn’t say a word. I sit on the sidelines and watch the practice, taking notes of the new drills the defense is running, but I don’t see Dex.

That makes me a little sad because usually he comes out to see me while I’m here watching practice.

Just not today. As we’re packing up to leave, I get a text from him.

Dex: Hey, peach, sorry I didn’t get to see you. I was talking with August and Maxwell for most of your practice. Have fun with girls. But save your appetite. I’ll be preparing a feast for you, before I feast on you.

My faces grows hot, and I look around to make sure that no one is watching my reaction to his message. I sigh gratefully, knowing that no one saw me. I bite my lip thinking of how I want to answer him.

Amelia: Sounds promising. I can’t wait to see you later.

I hit send and stow my phone away in my pocket.

“What’s got you grinning like an idiot?” DJ asks me as I begin making my way across the field.

“Nothing, just in a good mood.” I tell her a half truth, hoping she buys it.

“Uh-huh, well, whatever is going on, it suits you,” she says with a wink.

“Thanks.” Thankfully, that’s when Cassie makes her way over to me.

“Are you ready to head out to lunch?” she asks me.

“You bet. Have a good night, DJ,” I tell her before I follow Cassie off the practice field and over to her Jeep. “I still hate riding in this without doors.”

“You’ll be fine, you big baby,” she tells me after she carefully stows my crutches in the back. “My car is the only one that has enough room for you to stretch your leg out. The other two drive cars that are much smaller.”

“You’ve got me there,” I tell her as she pulls away from the Blaze. I glance back at Dex’s Tesla that is still in the parking lot and wish I was heading out with him. I enjoy my time with my girls, but I would love to finish what we started in the apartment sooner rather than later.

We head towards the Backwoods for some lunch and cocktails. Of course, the subject of today’s lunch is going to be the scene they witnessed when they picked me up.

After we are all sitting around the table, drinks in hand and meals ordered, the questions begin coming in.

“So, how is it living with your new boyfriend?” Cassie is the first one to fire.

“He’s not my boyfriend,” I tell them. “I’m not sure what we are.”

“Interesting, have you two not done a lot of talking? Is this more of an exclusively fucking situation?” she asks.

My face turns a deep shade of red, and I shake my head. “It’s not just fucking. We have conversations. He took me book shopping,” I tell them, hoping that buys me a change in topic.

It doesn’t.

“We’ll come back to the book shopping,” Hendrix says, taking a sip of her beer. “What about the talking? Do you two actually talk?”

I nod. “We do, we do. I haven’t wanted to ask him anything about what it is that we are. It’s seeming pathetic or like a high school move to ask him to define the relationship. So, I keep quiet about it,” I admit with a shrug. “Plus, he’s recently divorced, and for all I know, I’m his rebound.”

Mac shakes her head. “No, Amelia, you’re not a rebound. I’ve watched that man track you all across the field. And we recently saw him pin you to the wall with this hips. That man wants more from you than a quick a dirty fuck. Trust me.”

I smile. “I hope you’re right, because I sure want more from him than that,” I admit.

“I agree with Mac; I think you’ll get it,” Cassie chimes in.

“And you know, he’s divorced. It might be one of those situations where he was unhappy for a while like Jase was.

He’s ready for some happy and you, my dear, are exactly what the doctor ordered.

” She winks at me. “He’s a good guy. He hung out with Jase and I one night and I can tell you that I was impressed with him and his maturity.

I think you’re fine. He wants more from you than some fucks. ”

I nod. “So, you guys like him?” I feel like we’re in high school when I ask that question. But their opinion of him matters to me.

“Of course we do.” Hendrix is the first one to speak up. “He’s a good trainer; takes more interest in us than Cary did. Or hell, even Lucas, and he still works for the Blaze.”

“Agree, he’s great,” Cassie adds in.

“I second the motion,” Mac says with a laugh.

“Well, good. I’m glad.” I pick up my margarita and take a sip.

“He fits in well with our little group,” Hendrix adds. “Now, tell us about this book shopping. What did that entail?”

I grin widely. “Well, he drove me to the bigger Barnes & Noble in Tampa and followed me all around while I shopped for books. He actually bought me like, twelve books. I couldn’t believe he did that for me.”

“What made him do that?” Hendrix asks.

“He said he knew what type of books I read based on what his sisters read and wanted to make sure we had plenty of material.” I flush when I say those last words.

“Ooh, I like this one for you,” Cassie chimes in. “He sounds like he really cares about you. This makes me so happy.” She claps her hands and adds, “It’s like August was playing cupid for the two of you.”

“Fuck that idea, August doesn’t play cupid. He’s too self-centered for that,” Hendrix chimes in with her usual August hate. It makes me feel more confident that what I told Dex was correct.

“Yeah, yeah, you hate August, we get it,” Cassie says with a roll of her eyes.

“I have good reasons,” she insists.

“You do,” Mac says, patting her on the back. “No one doubts that.”

“On a fun note, from the bookstore, Dex used his auto-pilot on his Tesla to finger me on the way home. Best car ride home ever.”

“Seriously!” Mac yells a little too loudly.

“Indoor voice, honey, indoor voice,” Cassie scolds her while we all laugh.

“Sorry,” she says with a laugh. “I was surprised. I didn’t realize you two had it in you.”

“Did you not see the way they were when we picked her up? How could they not?” Hendrix chimes in.

“That man can’t not touch you,” Cassie says, grinning at me. “It’s really hot.”

“It sure is,” I admit, blushing a little bit.
