Chapter 38

CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT

Aaron

“I’m gonna head home.” I glance up from the television to see Kendall searching for something. Her bag is thrown up over her shoulder and she’s carrying her wallet in her hand.

"I thought you said you were staying over tonight?”

“No.” She ruffles through the basket on the counter where we always place our keys. “I told you I was going to stay home because I have the early morning shift tomorrow.”

“You had the early morning shift last Tuesday and the Tuesday before that.” Shrugging I stand and walk toward the kitchen where she continues the search for her keys.

“So why is now different?” I ask, leaning over on the counter and watching her get a little frustrated being unable to locate her keys.

“Because,” she says, slapping her hands on the countertop, “I have stayed here three nights in a row and I need to go home."

“No, you don’t.” I make the mistake of responding way too fast and she shifts her attention to me, with a glare.

“Where the hell are my keys?”

“I have no idea,” I say, still smiling.

“Now you’re lying.” Her glare deepens.

“Nope," I say with a shrug. “I hid them and now I can’t remember where.”

“Damn it, give me your keys,” she pushes.

“Nope.” I pop the letter p, overly exaggerating the word which irritates her more.

“Aaron,” she growls.

“Kendall,” I mimic her voice.

“This is ridiculous!” she says, throwing her hands up in the air. “I’ll walk home."

“To Montgomery?”

“Give me my keys,” she yells and all I offer is a shake of my head.

“That’s it,” she huffs which is so out of character for her. She’s more of a take charge and get shit done girl. “I’m going to go tell your mother.” She spins around on her heels and starts walking toward the front door. I don’t believe she’ll do it so I challenge her.

“Do you want me to walk over there with you?” I ask, following close behind. And without warning she spins around and squares off with me.

“Asshole!”

“Wench.” I try not to laugh when she stares back tame with a blank expression. This could very well end badly. She could kill me now and ask questions later, I am well aware.

“Do you remember what broken ribs felt like?”

“I do,” I say with a nod.

“What I am about to do to you, those broken ribs are going to feel like a fucking day at the spa."

“Scary.” I hold her stare.

“You are infuriating!”

“So are you,” I offer in return without pause.

“If I stay here I’m going to shave both of your eyebrows this time.”

He chuckles.

“Have I told you how annoying you are?” She fists her hands at her sides and I figure it’s to keep her from punching me.

"Every time you get mad at me.” I’m annoying, I’m infuriating, she wants to glue my lips shut, it is all very volatile and quite comical.

“Fine!” A horrific, unreadable smile covers her lips.

She grabs her shoes and walks the rest of the way to the door.

Yanking it open she walks out onto the porch and down the steps.

She only makes it twenty feet before I race up behind her and wrap my arms around her waist. I pick her up and carry her back inside.

Through the living room, past the kitchen, and down the hallway. Straight to the bed, I toss her and she bounces on impact. When she twists her body and tries to scramble away, I grab her ankles and pull her to the edge. Crawling over her I use the weight of my own body to hold her securely.

“You know what happens when you get feisty, babe.” I shift my hips forward and she gasps. “It turns me on and then we end up here, all tangled up and panting.”

“What in the hell is wrong with you?” Kendall attempts to act offended, but her face says something completely opposite as she bites her lip.

With hooded eyes, she wraps her legs around my waist and pulls me in tightly.

“Nothing.” I smile, kissing along her jaw. “Nothing at all,” I whisper.

“I’d have to disagree.” She can no longer hide her smile.

“You still gonna leave?”

“Yes,” she pants, while I drag my tongue over her collarbone. “Right after this is over.”

“Well then I guess that means we need to make sure we are doing this,” I thrust my hips forward, “all night long.”

“Yeah, that works too,” Kendall links her hands together behind my neck and pulls me in closer. “That works so good.”
