Chapter 46
Chapter Forty-Six
CALEB
S omething’s wrong. I can feel it. That wasn't Lauren who left me earlier. Sensing eyes on me, I look over to see Dean Williams propped against the makeshift bar with a glass of whiskey in his hand. He lifts it in a salute with a smug grin.
What has he done?
For once I stay rooted to the ground, not following Lauren as my usual MO. Heading to the bar, I order a whiskey, leaning back against it, mirroring his posture.
“Such a shame Miss Taylor had to leave so soon,” he drawls.
I shrug, feigning nonchalance. “Hadn’t noticed.”
The dean raises an eyebrow. “Oh? You two seemed quite… close. Considering she’s a student .” He emphasizes the word as if I don’t already know.
I take a sip of my drink and put it on the bar, my stance relaxed but the rage simmers beneath the surface. “She asked if I’d seen Brad, you know, my TA. ”
“Hmm. Well, let’s hope that whatever it was, that it’s over with now.” He gives me a pointed look.
I don’t like what he’s implying here. Does he know something? Does he know about me and Lauren?
“Not my problem. Like you said, she’s a student ,” I confirm, hoping like fuck I can defuse this situation before it gets worse. This asshole has always acted with a dickish nature, so it’s probably just another one of his games—one where he thinks he knows but doesn’t.
I stand up, draining my glass before saying, “Excuse me.”
I wait a good hour before I make my apologies and leave so it doesn’t look too suspicious. One things for certain: I need to find Lauren and I need to find her quickly.
