Chapter 13

CONNECTION REVEALED

J.D. Stevens

She was killing me. Her smell. Her voice. Her smooth ebony skin. The damn clothes she wore made her more irresistible. While I was attracted to her, I knew it couldn’t go anywhere. Not until I got the answers I needed.

It was a push and pull feeling with Rebel. I was drawn to her. Everything about her interested me. It was almost like the universe was pushing me towards her. Then I thought of Dani and what I was trying to do for her and Luca, then I could feel myself pulling away.

I wanted to get to know her. I definitely wanted to fuck her, but I was hesitant because where could it lead when I was so consumed with finding who killed my family?

I followed Rebel towards her home office, and I couldn’t keep my eyes off her ass. The woman was beyond gorgeous, and these tiny, thin shorts she wore did little to cover her body.

I pushed down the groan as my motorcycle boots echoed off the hardwood floors of her apartment. The dark gray hardwood floors extended to every part of her place I could see. The color went well with the ivory and bluish-gray paint scheme of her apartment. It was nice, high-end, and the complete opposite of somewhere I thought she’d live.

She had that hippie aura about her. I expected bright, floral colors. Not this modern, luxury look.

She walked barefoot down her hallway so gracefully it was almost like she was gliding. The elegant movements of her hips almost had me in a trance.

All of a sudden, she stopped, and I almost bumped into her. She faced me and chuckled. “You didn’t hear a word I said, did you?”

“No. I was distracted.”

There was no point in hiding my attraction to her.

A mischievous smile crossed her face. “I can put something else on if you like or...”

“Or?” I tilted my head and smiled at her.

The look of lust in her eyes almost knocked me off my feet. She wanted me and fuck, I wanted her too.

“Or maybe I can take this off?” She caught her bottom lip in between her teeth.

Her dark nipples were visible through the thin fabric of her tank top. I wanted to take them into my mouth and suck them until she moaned my name in pure ecstasy.

I closed the distance between us, invading her personal bubble. Her scent washed over me. The scent was so intoxicating, it filled the air and made my head spin. So fucking alluring. With my thumb, I released her lip from between her teeth, then brushed the pad along her lower lip.

“You’re playing a very dangerous game, sweetheart.” I dropped my hand. “One I don’t think you really want to play.”

As she looked into my eyes, I saw the slight craning of her neck to meet my towering height. I pulled one of her braids and felt its silky texture as I wrapped it around my finger before releasing it.

“Or maybe it’s you, J.D. who’s afraid to play.”

Stepping away, she made her way into her office, the silence lingering in the air. My hand pressed against the hardness in my jeans, and a low moan escaped my lips as I savored the sensation.

“You coming!” she shouted, from inside the room after a few minutes.

I took in a deep breath, and released it, trying to calm myself down. This wasn’t the time to get my dick wet. I needed to find out what happened to Dani.

When I stepped into the room, it was like the interaction between us never happened. She was sitting behind her desk with her laptop open, her fingers quickly moving across the keyboard.

Just like last time, I grabbed the chair from in front of her desk and positioned it beside her, ensuring we were close for our conversation. She glanced at me when I sat down before she turned her attention back to the screen.

“Meet Sgt. Earl Daniels.”

She turned the computer towards me. A picture of Sgt. Daniels dressed in his police uniform with the American and North Carolina flags standing behind him in the background. He was in his mid to late forties, tall, and muscular. He definitely looked like a cop.

She moved the computer back in front of her. “Sgt. Earl Daniels met with his untimely death not even a week after Dani.”

“You got to be fucking kidding me? He’s dead?”

What the fuck is going on?

“Yes. The coroner listed it as a suicide by hanging.”

I stood up, my footsteps echoing as I paced back and forth. There was no way he took his own life. If he did, someone must have pushed him to the edge. The question was why? Cops carried fucking guns. Why in the hell would he choose to hang himself instead of blowing his head off?

“Somebody’s tying up loose ends,” she said, taking the words right out of my mouth.

I stopped pacing and looked at her.

“But why? she asked. “Why target her?”

“Can you find any more information on him?”

“Sure.”

She turned back around, started typing and I resumed pacing. I can’t believe after all this time I was finally getting some fucking answers. My family was targeted, and I was one step closer to finding out why and by who. I wasn’t crazy. I’d been right this entire time.

“Okay,” Rebel said, getting my attention.

I walked up behind her and leaned over her shoulder. Her breath hitched. My closeness was affecting her, and I refused to move. I liked the effect I had on her.

“Umm... Earl Daniels was the oldest son of Roger and Sandy Daniels. He was born in Georgia. He had two brothers. Stanly and Cody Daniels.”

“Georgia?”

It had to be a coincidence.

“Yes.” She continued typing, then she stopped before she started again. “Wait, a damn minute.”

“What is it?”

I stared at the screen, but she was typing so damn fast, and pages were coming up and disappearing as fast as they came.

“Cody Daniels. Do you recognize the name?”

I thought for a minute, but I didn’t know any Cody Daniels.

“No. Should I?”

“Well, according to this missing person’s report, Cody “Spike” Daniels was a member of Demons United MC. And Austin Tyler also known as Demon had been arrested for his disappearance and murder before the charges were dropped.”

“Oh fuck! Give me a minute.”

I cut her off before she had a chance to say anything. I pulled my cell from my pocket and dialed my brother-in-law as I walked out of her office and made my way to her living room.

I didn’t know Spike. As a member of the Georgia chapter, Spike was found guilty of being a snitch by the brothers. Dani was the one who heard Spike giving info to the Feds. Both the Georgia chapter and North Carolina chapter voted on his fate. They stripped him of his patch, membership, and erased him from our history. Then dealt with the problem.

Could this be the reason someone targeted Dani? Why her and not Demon or even me?

“Is everything alright?” Demon asked as soon as he answered the phone.

It wasn’t often I called unless it had to do with Siobhan, so I could see why he might be concerned.

“I’ve uncovered some information. How quick can you get to North Carolina?”

“Let me get things settled here, and I’ll see you in the morning,” he said then ended the call.

There wasn’t too much I could say over the phone because someone might be listening, but he knew if I needed him here, it had something to do with Dani.

Exhaustion settled in, and I dragged my hand down my face, feeling the weight of fatigue.

“Is everything alright?” Rebel asked with her hand on my shoulder.

After sliding my phone in my pocket, I turned towards her, ready to give her my full attention. I tried to smile, hoping to ease the worry etched on her face, but when she didn’t return it, it made me realize my attempt had fallen flat.

“No everything isn’t alright, but I think it’s definitely getting better.”

She nodded and didn’t ask any more questions. And I was grateful. It wasn’t something I could explain to her anyway because it was club business.

“Well let’s get back to it,” she said. “We’ve got our connection. Now let’s see where the breadcrumbs lead.”

I nodded in agreement and trailed behind her as we made our way back to her office. Who the hell knew where all this ended but when I did find out, they all would die.
