“Oh, fuck,” Finare uttered from behind him. Together they raced from the Daybreak room and retraced their steps, searching for signs of their Broodmate.

“Let me check this way. You head to the back.”

We never should’ve come here. I should’ve locked her in her room and left her there. Who gives a damn what she wants? Until she Ascends, the only place she’ll be safe is within the walls of Veldmoor.

“You can’t risk yourself like that, Ivy! That’s twice now that you’ve left yourself totally exposed to him!”

“Maybe if you weren’t such an asshole, I wouldn’t be so keen to get away from you! Have you ever thought about that?” Ivy fixed her reddened eyes on Voresta through the rear-view mirror.

“Whether you like me or not, Ivy, Leseldh wants you safe. Don’t make the job hard for me or I’ll see to it that you never leave Veldmoor again.” Voresta’s words were a promise, and Ivy fell silent, but her penetrating glare said more than her words could.
