Chapter 16 Ivy
sixteen
Ivy
Ivy saw a momentary look of surprise wash over Killian’s features when he spotted them in the square. His gaze moved over each of the Idthraki Vampires, but when he spotted Ivy, a smirk spread across his features. Ivy shivered as their eyes met.
“Voresta, how sweet of you to bring her to me.”
“You’re not getting anywhere near her, Maurell,” Voresta sneered as he advanced towards Killian.
Leseldh and Finare swept in to shield Ivy, but she peered around them to watch the two Vampires size each other up. Her heart raced as she watched Killian remove his deadly weapon from its sheath. Voresta stopped just outside Killian’s reach, tensed and ready for a fight.
“Drop the knife and fight with honour.” Voresta’s voice was full of menace, and Killian quirked his brow.
“Think you can take me?”
“I know I can.”
Ivy knew Voresta would be a formidable opponent.
Although she’d never seen Killian fight, she was painfully aware of Voresta’s training and knew that it was all in preparation for a moment like this.
But she also knew what Killian’s dagger was capable of, and he didn’t seem interested in fighting without it.
The two Vampires stared each other down and Ivy wondered who would concede. Killian seemed to mull the challenge over, and after a moment he sheathed the dagger.
“Let’s see what the Idthraki attack dog’s got.” Killian flashed a wicked grin at Voresta and waved him over in invitation.
Voresta charged towards Killian, who launched a right hook as he stepped into his range. Voresta ducked the swing and attempted to grapple Killian, but the larger Vampire slid out of his grip. Both males traded blows, but neither was able to gain the upper hand in the early stages of the fight.
Ivy observed the differences between the two Vampires as they sparred.
Both were muscular and fit, but Killian was taller and bulkier.
This allowed Voresta to move more nimbly, dodging Killian’s attacks and retaliating with speed.
The two Vampires wore matching hateful glares as they circled one another.
“Is that all you’ve got, little pup?” Killian panted.
“I’m just getting started,” Voresta retorted, his breathing level.
Leseldh started to sidle Ivy towards the Portal Building, but her attention was pinned on the two males who were desperate to tear into one another.
Voresta darted towards his opponent with impressive speed, his fists flying, and Killian struggled to defend against the rain of blows.
Voresta pressed his advantage and managed to land a sickening punch to Killian’s face that landed with a wet thump.
Killian spat a mouthful of blood onto the dusty ground. He glared at Voresta, and the black clouds in his eyes emerged, threatening to blot out the red that matched the blood shining on his lips and teeth.
“I’ll End you, Idthraki.” Killian’s threat was met with laughter. Voresta’s confidence soared after drawing first blood, which was evident in his swagger as he paced before Killian.
“Are you sure about that? You might be good with a knife, but you’re pathetic with your fists,” Voresta taunted, before lunging for Killian once more.
They danced around one another, dodging and dealing hits, their movement kicking up swirls of dust that clouded the square outside the Portal Building.
The scent of blood was in the air, and it seemed to spur Voresta on. He was dominating the fight, and Killian’s energy was waning. Leseldh and Ivy were close to the Portal Building, but the two battling males were rumbling towards them, heedless of their surroundings.
Ivy scented the blood, and a shock ran through her body, like she’d been hit by a sudden impact.
She felt as though she’d been plunged in fire, and her heart began to race.
She was overwhelmed by a plethora of urges—to feed, to fight, to fuck, to run, to chase, to be chased.
Her breath came in ragged pants, and she quickly lost control of her senses.
“Finare! Get Ivy to Noctis, now! Return to Veldmoor immediately! I am trusting you with my Resonant. Do not fail me,” Leseldh hissed.
Ivy heard Leseldh’s demands, but she struggled to comprehend them as she battled the desires raging within her.
Ivy felt an arm wrap around her waist before she was dragged towards the Portal Building’s door. She struggled against her Broodmate, but she wasn’t strong enough to stop him from pushing her through.
Due to the whirlpool of thoughts, feelings and urges swirling within Ivy, the Portal journey was especially disorienting on the return, and as she stepped out onto the Crux, she looked around with wide eyes. Finare emerged from the building a moment later, and she cried out to him.
“Where is he? Is he okay?!” Ivy was frantic, her green eyes flashing with gold.
“He’s okay, he’ll be through soon, Ivy. Let’s get you home.” Finare’s words didn’t reassure Ivy, but she wasn’t in control of her faculties enough to understand why.
