Voresta flicked his eyes in her direction, and they flashed a dark grey.

“Are you okay?” Voresta asked. When she simply nodded in response, he added, “I’m sorry I left you there.”

“You’re safe. Does he need to know?”

What did this mean? There was nothing in their interactions to indicate that he had any genuine concern for her wellbeing.

He only ever spent time with her when he was on protection duty, giving her the impression that his association was purely on Leseldh’s orders.

Just like the way her mother used Hannah and her knot of vipers to keep tabs on her.

But if Voresta was willing to conceal this event, did that mean that he suffered consequences for failure? It made her realise that her actions endangered not only herself, but Voresta, too. It was a thought that didn’t sit well with her—it meant that their happiness and suffering were interwoven.
