Finare

Ivy’s fingers found the gap between the coffin and its lid, and she tried to prise it open. Her face contorted in frustration as the wooden lid refused to move. The knocking sounds continued, but they were slowing. Even Killian seemed to know it was pointless.

“I’m so sorry.” Ivy rested her hand on the lid of the coffin, and her eyes welled with tears. A single tear dropped onto the wood, turning the spot where it landed a darker shade.

“What do we do?”

“Our only hope is finding the key.”

“Then I say we tear this house apart trying to find it.” Ivy’s voice was firm, and Finare could sense the rage that was sparking to life within her.

Finare nodded in reply and Ivy moved back towards the stairs. As Finare turned to follow, a scream came from behind them. Finare whipped around and realised that it was coming from inside the coffin.

Ivy charged back towards it, but her movement was halted when the coffin burst into flame.
