Chapter 48
Sean
When the sun comes up, Lillian is fast asleep. I slip out of bed, do my business, and replace the waterproof bandage on my stitches. Considering everything, the wound has closed up well. It’ll leave a scar we can talk about in our old age.
I chuckle as Buddy twirls around my feet on the way to the kitchen, meowing for his breakfast.
Once he’s fed, I make coffee, then settle into a chair in front of my laptop at the table. An email from Dante catches my eye.
“Huh. So Pearson’s dead.” As I lift the mug to my lips, Buddy looks up from his bowl, then continues to chow down.
“Car crash. Hit-and-run.” My news seems to interest him, so he jumps up next to my keyboard, rests his chin on my mouse pad, and stares at me as if to say, What else?
I pat his head. “Well, Liam is under federal custody, so your mom and I won’t be looking over our shoulders anymore. And we’ll be available for all your highness’ needs.”
When he rolls onto his side for belly rubs, I scratch his favorite spots.
“And the DA should be arresting my father soon. There’s another email from a lawyer stating Roger’s power of attorney over my grandmother is illegal.” I glance at Buddy. “Anything else, pal?”
Lillian pads into the kitchen. “Are you talking to the cat?”
“Yeah. Catching him up.” I pull her into my lap. “He didn’t seem overly concerned.”
Buddy blinks at her but remains stretched out, enjoying his massage.
“I’d say not.” She laughs as she peers into my monitor. “So, are we officially on vacation or not?”
I scroll down to the end of Dante’s email and open the attachment.
“I think not.”
