Chapter Drive? “Man fuck that!”

FOE

When Lakia called me, I had been waiting for Harvey to get home.

I knew there were some things we needed to discuss, and I wanted to do so.

Although my sister and I had our shit going on, I couldn’t leave her hanging.

It was that part of me that I hated. There were moments when I should’ve stepped back, but I found myself stepping in.

This was my family, and despite the disagreement, Lakia was still my sister.

My car sat in the street as I called out to her from the window.

I couldn’t tell what they were talking about, and I honestly didn’t give a fuck.

Lakia began walking my way. The closer she got, the more I could see the sadness in her eyes, and that shit was pissing me off.

I gripped the steering wheel tightly as I tried to control my emotions.

When she reached the car, she got in, and I could tell she was crying. “Man, what the fuck?!” I gritted.

Lakia turned to me with red eyes. “Just drive,” she sniffled.

Drive? “Man fuck that!”

I pulled my gun from my waist as I went to open the door to get out, but she grabbed my arm, “No, just get me away from here. Please,” she begged.

I took a deep breath, sucked my teeth as I eased back into the car. I set my gun on my lap and took off. I tried focusing on the rainy road, but her muffled sobs bothered me. “What happened?” I asked.

The last time I saw Kia like this was when one of her high school boyfriends showed everyone a naked picture she sent him, and I beat his ass.

I rocked that nigga block so bad he couldn’t even show his face at school.

One thing I didn’t play about was my family, and to know this nigga had her crying was only making me want to smoke him when she fell asleep.

By the time I reached my house, I saw Harvey’s car in the driveway.

I wasn’t sure if bringing Lakia here was a good idea, but they needed to find a way to get along, as I loved them both.

I knew my sister was down bad because she hadn’t commented on Harvey being home.

I hurried and got us inside as the rain seemed to be coming down like a muhfucka.

When we stepped inside, Harvey came walking out of the kitchen in her panties and bra, looking good as fuck.

Her eyes closed as her hand gripped her chest. “Oh shit!” she yelled.

“Damn girl, you look good as fuck!” I said to her.

She scooted back into the kitchen. Lakia walked past, going into the living room. “You didn’t think to tell me your sister was coming?” Harvey said from the kitchen.

I made my way toward her, “I mean, she’s my sister, why do I have to tell you?”

“The fuck? Because we live together. Because this is my house too, and if I were to invite someone over, I would tell you,” She hissed.

I ran my hand through my locs, “Yeah, well, you didn’t say that you invited her, so I guess we’re even.”

Harvey’s head flew back, “Nigga what?”

I dropped my head. “Baby, I’m sorry. Can we—”

“We can’t. I’m going to bed!” she snapped.

I knew whatever type of conversation I thought I was going to have, it wasn’t happening, at least not tonight.

As Harvey disappeared upstairs, my sister’s voice came in on queue. “She’s not for you.”

I almost broke my neck coming out of the kitchen. “What?”

She wiped her eyes. “She is not for you. Look, I’ve seen the girls you messed with and that is not it. You really want to be with someone who fucked on your homeboy, someone you consider your brother?”

I eased toward her, “I didn’t bring you here for that.

I could tell you that nigga you crying over isn’t for you, but I’m wrong when I say that.

Harvey is my person and not you or anyone else is going to change my fucking mind.

You’d better roll one of those blunts before I really hurt your feelings. ”

She shrugged. “I don’t have a problem with her. I think it’s fucked up what she did, though.”

Now she was really pissing me off. I cracked my neck as I stepped closer toward her, “Well, if you’re going to blame her, then blame me.

” I paused, then chuckled. “I get it. Your mad cause the shit you got with that goofy nigga didn’t work.

You’re mad because I found something you can’t.

You're mad because a nigga you want doesn’t want you.

You’re bitter just like Ma. Like mother, like fucking daughter. ”

Her head shot my way, and I knew I had gotten under her skin. “Fuck you!”

“Nah, that’s what that nigga supposed to be doing, but I wonder who fucked that up? Look, I didn’t bring you here for this shit.”

She shook her head, “I never thought I would see the day you choose a woman over your family, but what is it that you said, just like Ma. Like mother, like fucking son.”

I swallowed deep. I couldn’t believe this shit. I didn’t even know what to say. For the first time, I had no fucking comeback. That’s when I heard the door open. I backed up to see Harvey at the door. “Where are you going?”

She was now fully dressed with a duffel bag hanging off her shoulders. “I’m going to Chev’s.”

“You’re staying here!” I shouted as I began walking toward her.

She swung the bag behind her as her sad eyes gazed at me. “I’m not in a position to make you choose, so Myles, I’m stepping away.”

Suddenly, it felt like my world was spinning. Harvey had gone to walk out the door, but when I saw who had walked up, I knew my world was flipping upside down. Harvey turned to look at me as her eyebrows raised, “I guess it’s a family affair. Bye, Myles.”

My face held confusion. “Ma?”
