Chapter 30

Ollie

Ibite back a whine.

I don’t know where Nate went. He left the car, and instead of coming back like he always does, someone else showed up and drove us back here to the station, where I’ve been patiently sitting on my bed ever since.

I’m too well trained to get up to look for Nate, or to whine or bark to indicate my frustration, but I sure as heck want to.

I couldn’t see much from where I was sitting in the SUV, but I heard Nate’s voice saying her name.

Rory.

I know I said I didn’t want her around because she was cutting into my time with Nate. He was hanging out with her instead of tossing balls with me.

But I don’t want anything bad to happen to her. She gives me peanut butter.

And she makes Nate happy.

That much I can tell.

And if he’s happy, then I’m happy. If he loves her, then I love her.

“Good boy,” Jake says, patting me on the head.

I wish he’d tell me where Nate is, when my best friend is getting back, if everything is okay.

But he just gives me a treat and another pat on the head.
