Ollie

Spam thinks he’s being subtle, creeping into the kitchen while Nate and Rory are…occupied, let’s say.

He’s sneaky. I’ll give him that, but the whole thing seems like wasted effort to me.

If he would just follow my lead and sit here patiently, Nate will bring the meatball to him.

Their current…activities are standing in the way of my meatball. I expected Nate to toss me one about five minutes ago.

He’s a little distracted, but he seems happy, so I can be patient.

I watch from my bed as Nate turns Rory around, and they continue whatever game they’re playing. Now that his front is to her back, the position seems more familiar.

It seems a little invasive to watch them.

But then, if they didn’t want an audience, they should have moved upstairs, the way they usually do.

I’m not an idiot. When they start making out on the couch, it’s obvious what’s about to happen, and as far as I’m concerned, good for them.

I just don’t need to see it.

I move a paw to cover my eyes for the sake of decency. They’re not moving upstairs for this interlude, but if they at least moved a few feet to the left, the entire neighborhood would get to see what they’re doing.

Their movements slow just as Spam hops onto a barstool, placing his front paws on the counter, inches from the slow cooker.

I peer out from behind one paw, unable to resist the drama.

It doesn’t seem like they’ve noticed him yet.

I cross my paws, hoping he succeeds in his mission.

Good luck, little buddy.

Spam may need to learn some patience, but I’m rooting for him and his wildly unhinged mission.

Besides, those meatballs smell delicious.

I take another peek as Spam leans over, nice and slow.

Nate and Rory still don’t seem to have noticed him.

He’s almost there.

Come on, Spam. Get that meatball. And one for me.

Slow and steady as he gets closer. And closer.

Then, in a flash, the little guy sticks his nose into the slow cooker, emerging with red sauce on his face and a meatball in his mouth. He hops off the chair and takes off just as Nate pins him with a glare.

Busted.
