Epilogue
TONY
NINE MONTHS LATER…
“Here she is,” I coo, staring down at my baby girl who I haven’t seen all day.
Rosalyn has just finished nursing her when I walked in.
“Daddy missed you, princess.” I scoop her up from Rosalyn’s arms, but not before stealing a gentle kiss from my wife as she covers her breast. “So when do your parents get here?”
“Tomorrow. The weather is crappy, so they are delayed. My mother’s chomping at the bit to see little Elizabeth.”
“I bet she is. My mom and sister just left, didn’t they?”
“Yes. Everyone loves this little one.” Her smile shines, but I can see the fatigue in her eyes.
I caress her back. “But how are you, my love? Are you okay? Do you need anything?”
“Other than a nap and a good hot shower, just your love.”
I smile and help her to her feet. “That I can give to you. Go upstairs, hit the shower and then get in bed for a bit. I know it’s not easy. I’m sorry things are still chaotic at the office, but I have some quality people working under me now so it’s almost back to normal.”
Patting her ass, I point to the stairs and say, “Get moving woman, I want you well rested.”
“Thank you,” she says, kissing my lips.
After the whole thing with Dax and Cynthia who were having an affair together, I had to do an evaluation of all my staff members and remind them that there was a competition clause in their contracts.
I’ve lost several clients after the incident in South Padre because they felt my company had too many internal issues.
Still, my business is going well, making deals and building new buildings every month.
Soon I’ll be able to take a little more time off to spend with my family, but for the time being, it’s these moments that I live for.
When I get home at seven, I steal my princess and let mommy get the rest she needs.
Then we cuddle for a bit and talk. I’ve got two more long weeks before I can be buried balls deep inside Rosalyn again, but this quality time means the world to me as well.
Setting the baby in her carrier, I head into the kitchen to make some dinner because I know Rosalyn hasn’t eaten.
She likes to wait for me. I look in the fridge and see the label my mother left with instructions on how to finish the rest of the dish.
If she could move in with us, I think she just might.
Just then my phone rings and it’s my mother. “Hello, Mom.”
“How are you doing, son?”
“I’m good. Why do you always leave before I get home? Got a hot date?”
She scoffs and then laughs. “We don’t like intruding on your time with Rosalyn and the baby.”
“I want you guys to come around on the weekend and we can all hang out. Rosalyn’s parents are supposed to come.”
“Okay. We can do that. I’m sure your sister’s not busy. She just sits around here like a bump on a log.”
“Be nice. She needs to find her way.” I turn on the oven to the temp on the note and let it pre-heat.
“She needs to be happy, but she’d actually have to leave the house for that to happen.”
“I’d say she could go out with my wife, but then fuck if I want her going anywhere where single guys are looking to score.”
“Do you have any good-looking employees? She’s almost done with college, but she’s done her courses all online.
” My sister’s not agoraphobic or anything like that, but she’s super antisocial.
She lives in her books, but then that’s why I love when she hangs out with Rosalyn because then she has a friend, and they do nerdy things.
“I doubt it, but I don’t want her dating anyone anyway.”
“Relax, she’s twenty-two already. She needs to date.” The oven goes off, letting me know to stick the food inside and as I do, I hear a fuss coming from the carrier. My little Lizzy has the cutest little cry.
“Well, I’ll see ya this weekend. The baby’s crying.
” I end the call and turn on my camera to steal a picture of my whimpering little girl before scooping her up in my arms. She settles down, but she’s searching for momma with her mouth.
“I got those, baby girl, but they ain’t gonna feed you any.
Trust me I want some of your momma too.” I find her tiny pacifier and use it while I wait for the oven to ding.
Singing to my sweet pea as I rock her gently in my arms, I stare with wonder at the little precious gift we made.
Slowly, she falls asleep and then I set her back down, so I can start prepping dinner.
The shower went off about ten minutes ago, so I’m betting she’s lying down for a good thirty-minute nap.
We have it timed so well because it helps.
Just as everything is set up, I feel soft hands slide around my waist. “Just in time. How was your nap?”
“Perfect as usual. Thank you.” I spin around and tip her chin.
“You are the one that needs to be thanked. You’ve given me this great family that I’m so thankful for. I feel like this house is now a home and I can’t wait until I knock you up again.”
“Surprisingly, me either. I’m looking forward to having a handsome son just like this daddy.”
“Thank you for letting me be obsessed about you.”
“I live for it. Now kiss me quickly before I have to feed the baby.” A wail comes from the carrier right on time like she heard her mother calling. “Maybe we should wait on the next one,” she teases.
“Nah. The sooner we have them all the sooner, they’ll be out of the house, and we can run around here naked all day.” I wag my brows up at her as she sits in the chair with the baby on her engorged, scrumptious `looking breast.
“You’re crazy.”
“In love.”
“Forever.”
