The Morning After

Sarah stood at the kitchen window, steam rising from her coffee cup, skin still flushed from the night before.

The early morning light made everything feel quieter than it was- but nothing inside her was quiet.

She hadn’t said much since they left The Candy Club.

She didn’t need to.

Mark had been silent too. Not with tension, not with regret- but with something heavier. Something more permanent.

He stepped into the kitchen now, barefoot, wearing only a pair of lounge pants. He looked at her like she wasn’t just his wife anymore—

Like she was something reborn.

“Hey.”

Sarah turned, her lips twitching in a tired smile.

“Hey.”

He poured his own coffee, leaning against the counter.

For a moment, they stood there in silence.

And then—Mark said it.

“That wasn’t just a night, was it?”

Sarah shook her head slowly.

“No, it wasn’t.”

Her voice was calm. But her pulse was racing again—not with fear, but with recognition.

They had crossed a threshold they couldn’t uncross.

“Are you okay?” he asked.

“Are you?” she countered.

They both paused.

And then—they nodded.

Not because it had been easy.

Not because there wasn’t a small part of them still spinning from the intensity.

But because they had come out of it together.

Stronger.

More honest.

More alive.

Sarah sat her coffee down and crossed to him.

“So... what now?”

Mark slipped his arms around her, resting his forehead against hers.

“We learn. We grow. We play. We make the rules—together.”

She leaned into him, whispering against his mouth.

“And Sanctuary?”

Mark didn’t hesitate.

“We go back.”

Sarah noticed it after he said it.

Peeking from her purse.

A black envelope.

Another one.

This time, sealed in red wax.

She picked it up, her name written in cursive across the front.

No longer an invitation.

A summons.

She opened it slowly.

Inside was a simple card.

Embossed.

Elegant.

Ominous.

“Welcome to Sanctuary.

“Your initiation awaits.”

She looked up at mark, “We’re really doing this aren’t we?’

Mark smiled.

Sarah sat the card back on the table.

The decision was made.

There is no going back.

Only deeper.
