13. Finley #2
“Let’s get through this first and we’ll see how it goes.
I desperately need a shower. I’m pretty sure I got blood on me somewhere,” I explained and pulled the blue dress back on.
“Can you smell blood on me? I don’t know what other kinds of supers there are at the party and having a vampire come after me would not be good. ”
Mason pulled open the bathroom door and leaned out. “Hey Derven, come sniff snuggles for blood.” He turned to look at me with an odd expression. “Can’t say I ever thought I’d be saying something like that in my life.”
Derven appeared in the bathroom, hands tucked in his pants pockets as he walked up to me, then stopped. “Mason, could you remove the catsuit? I’m not sure if the tang of blood is coming from that or sangele meu.”
Mason looked at the pile of black leather, then spotted a trash bag and used it to collect my garment. Once it was tied shut, he walked out, leaving me to be checked over by my vampire.
Derven pulled his hands free and settled them on my hips as he leaned in.
“The perfume of blood and death on you is quite intoxicating, I must say.” Using his grip on me, he slowly turned me in a circle, stopping me with my back to him.
He grabbed my hair, pulled it up, and licked the back of my neck.
Adjusting the angle, he licked up another part, then released me.
“You’re free and clear, with only my scent on you to cover up the droplets left behind. ”
“I thought you couldn’t drink anyone else’s blood?” I questioned as I faced him, stepping into his personal space so my chest brushed his. “Isn’t that the whole point of us being bonded?”
Derven smiled, his fangs showing as he wrapped his arms around me and let his nose brush up my neck along the artery. “Do I smell jealousy, sangele meu? If it is, that is a rather intoxicating aroma that might just need to be caused more often.”
Leaning into him, I let my lips brush the shell of his ear. “You do that and I’ll see how much damage you can take before it starts to affect me.” I placed a kiss on his cheek and stepped back.
Derven didn’t look the slightest deterred.
If anything, it had made him even more excited that I’d threatened him.
“As for the answer to your question. I can still drink blood from others, but it does nothing to feed me. It’s like eating celery for you.
The calories burned negate the calories earned through eating it. ”
“Did it taste good?” I asked as I trailed a hand down his chest before stepping past him.
He grabbed my hand and pulled me back, causing me to crash into him.
“It tasted vile, like acid burning on my tongue.” His mouth moved to my neck and I felt the scrape of one of his fangs before he licked it off.
“There is nothing in this world that will taste more intoxicating than you, Finley. That being said, I never want you to doubt that you mean more to me than the blood that flows in your veins which gives me life. You are everything.” With a kiss to my neck, he let me go, and we joined the others.
Back up on the roof, it was worse than when I’d left.
I wasn’t sure there were more than a handful of people who weren’t totally wasted on something.
The DJ was playing, and most of the people were on the dance floor, grinding on one another with zero shame.
They might as well just take their clothes off and fuck while they’re at it.
Not like there was much separating them from each other.
That’s when I noticed a man standing at the opposite end of the party, leaning back on the railing with a glass of something in his hand. He was watching me with a hesitant expression, and when my brain finally caught up and realized who he was, I froze.
“Little one, what is it?” Colt asked, settling a hand on my low back.
I blinked a few times, hoping that what I was seeing wasn’t actually there. It had to be a trick, an illusion of some sort. But why would they choose that person out of millions of people to choose from?
“That’s my father,” I said, my voice sounding as hollow to me as I’m sure it did to them. Colt’s head snapped up and followed my line of sight. “Do you see him standing there in the tan suit?”
“Yeah, I see him alright.” Colt snarled as he started to charge away from me in his direction.
I grabbed him, and pulled him to a stop. “Wait, please, don’t do this here. Let me speak to him for a moment. Then I’ll decide whether to feed him to the wolves or not.”
“Oh, she’s got jokes,” Mason commented as he came to stand on my other side. “You’re not going over there alone. One of us or all of us are coming with you.”
“If we all go over there, then it will draw attention.” I sighed, then looked over my shoulder at Zander. “Do you recognize him? Why would he be here?”
“Holy fuck, that’s Eli Beinorin, owner of Starling Music. His wife was an amazing singer before she died…” Zander started to share, then looked at me. “They said the baby died too.”
“Wait, hold the fucking phone,” Noah demanded. “Your father is the founder of the infamous Organization and has a record label on top of it? How the hell has he been able to keep the fact that he’s an elf a secret for so long?”
“There are many supernatural creators that live well beyond human years. He could easily let people assume he was one of those,” Derven pointed out. “I have to say I’m quite impressed with my father-in-law even if I want to rip out his heart for abandoning Finley.”
