15. Rath #2
“Do I smell pancakes?” Noah asked as he walked into the kitchen. “Oh hell yeah, with chocolate chips too!” Then he paused and looked at Ven. “Are you cooking for everyone, or is this for Finley special?”
“No, I planned to make enough for everyone. She just got the first batch since no one else was here. Seems her wolf doesn’t get as upset when none of you are in the same room when I serve her first,” Ven explained.
Noah nodded and took a seat next to Finley, cutting a chunk out of her pancake, and stuffing it into his mouth. I shot over to him and smacked the back of his head, making him almost choke on the bite he was eating.
“None of that,” I snapped. “There will be plenty of food, do not steal off her plate. Why do you and Mason always do that?”
Noah shrugged. “We’ve always done that to people we are close with. I guess the two of us are used to sharing everything all the time that we assume that everyone else feels the same way. Obviously, we aren’t as bold with the alphas, but we’ve snatched a fry or two off their plates before.”
I suppose that made sense, but I still didn’t like it when they did it to Finley. We had a hard enough time getting her to eat as much as she should without them making it harder.
“Did you decide if we are gonna meet your dad?” Noah asked, nudging Finley with his elbow.
She didn’t answer right away. Instead, she ate in silence for a bit, and none of us felt the need to press her for an answer. As the smell of food filled the penthouse, the rest of the pack found their way to the kitchen.
“Alright, everyone out,” Ven ordered. “I need space to make the food you hungry beasts want. Now scram and take what I’ve made with you. Don’t forget plates this time,” he added, pointing his spatula at Mason.
“Man chooses to eat a slice of pizza not over a plate, and the old man never lets you live it down,” Mason teased as he grabbed a stack of plates for the table. “Let’s go, elf. I’m sure he’ll be chasing you out soon enough.”
I chuckled as I shook my head at this odd group of men who just seemed to make sense when put together.
Having known I would be part of a nos, I’d been prepared to share life with a few men.
Most elven women these days had three men, but here I was with seven of them.
I brought the pot over and refilled Finley’s cup before taking her plate.
“Hey, I wasn’t done with that,” she grumbled.
I looked at her over my shoulder. “I’m aware, but you’re going to join us at the table and not hide here while you wrestle with the answer of meeting your father or not.”
“You know, having people in my head all the time isn’t so much fun,” she shared as she followed after me.
“Nin mel, I didn’t have to read your thoughts to know what you were doing. It’s written all over your face,” I informed her. “Now sit, eat, and try not to worry yourself into a hole when you could talk to us about it as well.”
The rest of the table pretended like they weren’t at all interested in our conversation, but with supernatural hearing, I knew they’d heard us.
It was incredibly hard to keep any secrets with supers around but add in the fact we could sense each other’s emotions and some wayward thoughts.
It was a courtesy to ignore it unless addressed.
“There are so many things I want to ask him, but the problem is…” She paused to stab at her French toast with her fork. “Do I really want to know the answer? What if everything he tells me just reveals more lies or dirty secrets that should have been left alone? Ignorance is bliss, right?”
Colt leaned back in his chair, sipping on his coffee. “Did you want the truth or the answer you want?”
My eyes widened at his candor with Finley. Most of the time, they all tried to keep in mind that she was an omega, and words hit deeper and harder. Although I think they were finally realizing she wasn’t the same anymore now that her elf magic had come into play.
“The truth,” she stated, locking eyes with her alpha.
“You need to talk to him regardless of what you learn because you will always wonder what would have happened if you don’t.
Who knows, you might find out that what you thought he was going to say isn’t even close to the truth,” Colt said with a shrug.
“It’s better to know the devil than let him sneak up on you unprepared. ”
He had a point. I would much rather know now if we had another person we needed to watch out for. With danger coming at all fronts, a sneak attack could kill us.
“You’re right. We need to know what we are dealing with.
If the truth is that he is working closer to the Dark Ring, then we know that will be important.
I might be able to handle myself one on one with another assassin trained by them, but an army?
” She let out a heavy sigh. “I’m not sure anyone could win against that. ”
“Then it’s settled. We’ll meet up with the bastard and get the hell out of here and get back home,” Zander agreed, slapping his hand to the table. “Now we just need sleeping beauty to wake his ass up.”
“Or we could leave him here? Serves the bastard right after doing that to us last night,” Mason muttered, causing everyone at the table to laugh.
