43. Adrian #4

I rinse the suds out carefully, making sure no soap gets in her eyes. Then reach for the conditioner and repeat the process. By the time I'm done, she's completely relaxed, leaning back into me. Trusting.

"My turn," she says. I nod. Turn around and lean down. Her hands are smaller than mine. Gentler. But just as deliberate. She washes my hair carefully. Rinses it thoroughly. Then reaches for the body wash. Her hands move over my shoulders. My back. Slow. Exploratory. Not sexual. Just intimate.

I turn to face her, water running between us. Her eyes meet mine. Dark. Trusting. Wanting. I reach out. Cup her face.

"Kaia."

"Yeah?"

"I need you to know something."

She waits. Patient.

"I'm not him," I say. "I'm not your father. I'm not the man who tried to control you."

The water cascades over us both, warm and endless, steam rising in thick clouds around our bodies.

She's completely bare before me—no walls, no defenses, just her.

Just us. The shower spray catches in her hair, runs down her shoulders, traces the curve of her spine.

She's trembling slightly, but not from cold.

Her breath catches, sharp and sudden. Then she moves.

Slowly. Deliberately. She steps closer until there's barely any space between us, the warm water running over both of us now, connecting us.

Her hands come up to my chest, palms flat against my skin, feeling my heartbeat beneath her fingers.

Water drips from her hair, from her eyelashes.

She's looking up at me with those dark eyes—vulnerable, open, completely exposed.

"I know," she whispers. Her voice is barely audible over the sound of the shower. "I know you're not him."

She reaches up further, her wet fingers tracing the line of my jaw, my neck.

The intimacy of it—standing here naked, water streaming between us, her touch gentle and certain—makes something in my chest crack open.

This is trust in its rawest form. This is her choosing to be completely defenseless with me.

"But I am controlling," I continue, "I need structure. I need to know things are handled. I need…" I stop. Exhale. "I need to take care of you. In my way. And my way is…"

"Intense," she finishes softly.

I nod. "Yeah."

She's quiet for a moment. Her fingers still rest against my jaw, warm and certain despite the water cascading over us both. I can see her thinking—really thinking—her eyes moving slightly as though she's reviewing something internal, something important.

Then she speaks, her voice steady despite the vulnerability of standing here completely bare.

"When my father controlled things," she says slowly, "it was about ownership.

About making sure I fit into his plans. His vision.

His pack's needs." She pauses, her thumb brushing along my cheekbone.

"Every decision he made for me was about taking something away.

My choices. My autonomy. My identity. He controlled me so I would become what he wanted, not what I was. "

Her eyes meet mine fully now, and there's clarity there—something sharp and certain.

"But you…" She exhales, and I feel it against my chest. "Today. The spa. You removed every decision, every choice, every moment of pressure—not so I'd become what you wanted, but so I could just…exist. So I didn't have to worry. So I could breathe."

I stay still, letting her work through this. Letting her see it.

"You asked permission," she continues, her voice gaining strength. "You told me your nature—warned me about your intensity—not to scare me into compliance, but to make sure I understood what I was choosing. You gave me the option to leave. To say no. To walk away."

Her hands slide down to my chest again, palms flat over my heart.

"My father's control took my freedom. Yours…yours gives it to me." Her voice cracks slightly, but she doesn't look away. "You're not trying to change me. You're not demanding I be someone else. You're just…removing the obstacles so I can be exactly who I am without fear."

Something in my chest breaks open. Completely.

"Control with love," she whispers, "looks nothing like control with possession."

I can't speak. Can't move. Can only stand here as she sees me—truly sees me—and chooses this anyway.

"I was afraid," she admits, her voice barely audible over the water.

"I was afraid that letting anyone have control again would mean losing myself.

That I'd disappear. That I'd become a thing instead of a person.

" She tilts her head up, water running down her face, her eyes bright and certain.

"But you see me, Adrian. You see me, and your intensity isn't about making me smaller.

It's about making sure nothing ever makes me small again. "

Her hands move up, framing my face, pulling me down slightly so our foreheads touch.

"And I'm not afraid of that anymore."

My chest tightens. "You're not?"

"No," she says. "Because your control isn't about owning me. It's about…" She pauses, searching for the words. "It's about making sure I'm safe. Making sure I don't have to worry. Making sure everything is handled so I can just…"

"Breathe," I finish.

She nods. "Yeah."

I lean down. Press my forehead to hers. "I'm falling in love with you," I say. "And I'm done hiding it."

Her eyes widen slightly. Then she smiles. Warm. Certain.

"Me too."

I kiss her. Slow. Deliberate. Claiming.

She melts into me, hands sliding up my chest, into my hair. The water runs over us. Warm. Steady. Perfect. And I let myself have this. Let myself hold her. Touch her. Show her exactly what I've been holding back.

When we finally step out, we're both breathless. Flushed. Wanting more. But not yet.

"Get dressed," I say softly. "I bought a dress I think you'll like."

She blinks. "For what?"

"Dinner."

"Adrian…"

"Trust me."

She studies my face. Then nods. "Okay."

I change in the main area while she goes behind the curtain—the one I specifically positioned there, knowing she'd need privacy, knowing she'd feel safer with a barrier between us while she transitions from vulnerable to composed.

I'd placed the dress carefully on the hook before we arrived, a silent promise that I'd thought of everything.

That she didn't have to worry about a single detail.

She emerges slowly, and the breath catches in my chest.

The dress is black silk—not the harsh black of severity, but a deep, luxurious black that seems to absorb light and glow from within.

It's cut to follow the elegant line of her body without clinging, the fabric draping with an almost liquid grace that moves when she moves.

The neckline is modest but sophisticated, a gentle curve that frames her collarbone.

The sleeves are three-quarter length, fitted but not restrictive, ending just past her elbows in a way that feels both polished and comfortable.

But it's the details that make it perfect for her.

The back dips lower than the front—a subtle vulnerability, a trust—and the fabric gathers slightly at the small of her back, creating movement and dimension.

The skirt falls to just above her knee, and as she walks, it swishes with an almost playful elegance.

And there, hidden in the seams on both sides, are pockets deep enough to slip her hands into. Practical. Comfortable. Hers.

The silk catches the light as she moves, creating subtle shifts in tone—from deep charcoal to near-black to something almost silver when she turns. It's the kind of dress that makes a woman feel like she's wearing armor and silk simultaneously. Powerful and beautiful. In control and cared for.

She looks like a princess because she is one—at least to me.

And this dress, this carefully chosen, meticulously placed dress, is my way of showing her that being taken care of doesn't mean losing herself.

It means being seen so completely that someone knows exactly what will make her feel safe, beautiful, and free all at once.

She smiles. "I feel like a princess."

"You look like a princess. The spa has a hair stylist and makeup artist if you'd like to indulge, but you're already stunning. Otherwise, there are styling tools in here if you want them." She looks at me, and I say, "If you'd like to see them, I can stay with you."

She lights up. "Really?"

"Of course."

She smiles and nods.

We walk down to the salon, and a hair stylist says, "Oh my gosh! Love that dress!"

She smiles. "Thanks! It has pockets too!"

I don't get the obsession with pockets in dresses.

But for her—a woman who spent her entire life controlled by every detail, every decision made for her—pockets mean something different.

They mean agency. A small, perfect, practical reminder that she gets to choose.

That she gets to carry things that matter to her.

That she gets to exist in her own space, on her own terms. It's such a small thing, but watching her discover those pockets, watching her slip her hands into them like she's claiming something that's hers—that's everything.

"Let's get your hair done to match this beautiful dress. Sir, there's water and fruit in our waiting area."

Kaia looks at me, and I say, "I think she'd like me to come back with her if that's alright."

The hair stylist looks at Kaia to make sure.

Kaia says, "Yeah, my Omega hormones are all over the place."

"Girl, I get that. The time right before a heat is the worst."

Fuck. I hadn’t even considered that she might be close to a heat. She’s been having sex with my packmates for the last couple weeks, taking in all of our scents and building bonds with each of us. It has probably helped trigger what her body has been suppressing.
