58. Adrian
Chapter Fifty-Eight
Adrian
I've been awake for hours. Watching. Waiting. My body coiled tight with anticipation and something darker.
Fear.
Lachlan bonded with her first. I watched him mark her, watched the connection snap into place between them like a lightning strike over water. The way her body arched into his, the way she gasped his name…It was beautiful.
Then Jonas and Finn; she marked Jonas herself, claiming him with her own bite, and Finn marked her with a tenderness that made my chest ache.
Three bonds. Three claims. Three pieces of her heart given freely.
And I've been sitting here in the corner of the nest, holding myself back.
Forcing distance between us when every instinct I have screams at me to go to her.
Because I know what happens when I let go.
I know the intensity I carry. The control.
The dominance. The need to command and direct and possess.
And I've been terrified, absolutely fucking terrified, that she'll see it as the same thing she ran from.
That she'll look at me and see her father's shadow instead of the man who would burn the world down to keep her safe.
The others are asleep now. Lachlan's purr has faded to nothing more than a whisper in the silence.
Jonas is curled on his side, one arm draped protectively over Kaia, even in sleep, peaceful for once.
Finn's sprawled across the bottom of the nest, limbs everywhere, hair sticking up in a dozen different directions.
His mouth is slightly open; he looks younger like this. Vulnerable.
But I can't sleep. Not yet. Not until—
She stirs.
Everything inside me goes taut. I freeze, watching as she shifts beneath the blankets. Her hand reaches into the darkness, fingers grasping at empty air. Searching.
"Adrian?"
Her voice is soft. Sleepy. But certain.
She knows I'm here.
"I'm here," I say quietly, my voice helplessly rough.
She turns toward me, those eyes finding mine in the dim light filtering through the nest. Even in the darkness, I can see the question in her gaze. The concern. "Why are you all the way over there?"
The concern in her voice catches somewhere deep in me. "I didn't want to crowd you. You've already bonded with three of us tonight. I thought you might need space."
"Come here," she whispers. It's not a request. It's an invitation.
Something inside me cracks. Opens, like a door I've kept locked for so long finally giving way.
I move to her. Slow. Deliberate. Every movement is measured because I'm afraid if I rush, I'll lose what little control I have left. She's warm, flushed from heat and exertion, her skin glowing in the low light. Beautiful doesn't even begin to cover it.
"I need you to be sure," I admit quietly, settling beside her but not touching. Not yet. “Not your heat talking, you.”
"It’s me,” she says, with no hesitation.
“Say it clearly.”
Her eyes hold mine, “I want you, Adrian. I’m choosing you. I’m sure.”
"I know I'm intense. I know what I need.
What I crave. And after what happened with your parents, after seeing you like that...
I've been afraid to ask for it. You've only just started feeling safe again, and I don't want my intensity to become another thing you have to manage while you're still recovering. "
She's quiet for a moment. Then she reaches up, her hand cupping my face. Her palm is soft. Warm. Grounding.
"I know you," she says simply. "I know what you want because I've felt it. And I know the difference between you wanting me and someone trying to control me. I know the difference, Adrian."
"But—"
"And if I need you to stop," she continues, her thumb brushing across my cheekbone. "I will tell you. I promise. I won't pretend to be okay. I'll tell you the truth."
My heart stops. Actually stops.
"You're nothing like him," she whispers. "You never could be."
"Fuck me," she says. Simple. Direct. Fearless.
My heart stops. Actually stops.
"Kaia..."
"Fuck me, Adrian," she says again, her thumb brushing across my cheekbone. "I trust you."
Those three words undo me completely. Strip away every defense I've built. Every wall I've constructed.
I lean down and kiss her. Not soft. Not tentative. Deliberate. Claiming what she's offered. My hand slides into her hair, gripping firmly enough that she feels the control, the intention behind every movement. She tastes like heat and desire. Like sweetness and salt. Like home.
When I pull back, her eyes are dark. Pupils blown wide. Wanting.
"Lie back," I say. Not a request.
She does. Immediately. Without hesitation. Trusting.
"Good girl.” The words are quiet, precise, and I watch with quiet satisfaction as her entire body responds to those two words. Her breath hitches. Her thighs press together. Every inch of her responds to the praise, to the structure I'm offering.
I move over her slowly, letting her feel the weight of my attention. My hand traces down her side—ribs, waist, hip—mapping her with purpose.
"When I take control," I say, my voice low and even. "It's not to control you. It's to take care of you. To give you what you need. So you can let go, knowing I'll catch you. Do you understand?"
She nods slowly, her eyes never leaving mine. She knows this. She's lived this. But I need to hear her say it anyway—need the reassurance that she understands the difference, that she trusts me in this moment.
"Say it," I murmur, needing to hear the words. Needing to know she understands the difference.
"You're not trying to control me," she breathes. "You're trying to worship me."
"Every command I give is an act of devotion," I murmur, my thumb brushing her jaw. "Do you feel that?"
Her eyes go wide, then wet, tears gathering at the corners. "Adrian."
I kiss her again. Deeper this time. Pouring everything I feel into it. My hand slides down over her hip. Her thigh. She trembles beneath my touch. "Cold?" I ask, though I know she's not. The nest is warm. Her skin is burning.
She shakes her head. "No."
"Nervous?"
"A little."
"Good. That means this matters." I shift between her legs, positioning myself with deliberate care. "Hands above your head."
She lifts them without question, wrists crossing.
"Keep them there unless I tell you otherwise."
"Yes, sir."
Those two words send heat straight through me. I take my time, pressing kisses along her collarbone, down between her breasts, across her stomach. Methodical. Intentional. Building anticipation with every touch. She’s already trembling by the time I work back up to her throat.
"Adrian." My name breaks on her lips, already desperate.
"I know what you need." My hand slides between her thighs. She's slick, ready, the heat making her impossibly responsive. I stroke slowly, watching her face. "Tell me if it's too much."
"I will," she breathes. "I promise."
I add pressure, changing rhythm, reading her body's responses like data. Her hips rock against my hand, chasing friction.
"Please," she gasps.
"Please what? Tell me exactly."
"I need you. Please, Adrian. I need you inside me."
Something fierce moves through me. Need. Not want. The difference matters. I position myself at her entrance, one hand braced beside her head, the other gripping her hip with deliberate possession.
"Look at me."
Her eyes meet mine. Wide. Trusting. Waiting.
"I'm right here. I'm not going anywhere." I push in slowly, watching her face, reading every micro-expression. Her mouth falls open, her back arching.
"Breathe."
She does. Shaky. Uneven. But she does.
I move deeper, steady and controlled, my hand sliding up her side—hip, waist, ribs—possessive and sure. "That's it. Take what you need."
She whimpers, her body adjusting, accepting. I shift my angle slightly and she cries out.
"There?"
"Yes! Please don't stop!"
I don't. I move with precision, building the tension layer by layer, watching her unravel beneath me. Her hands stay above her head where I told her to keep them, fingers twisting in the blankets. I watch that too. The discipline of it. The trust.
"You can touch me now."
Her hands fly to my shoulders, nails digging in hard enough to mark. Good, I want her marks on me.
My knot begins to form, swelling. She gasps, feeling it.
"Adrian!"
"I know. Breathe." The knot swells fully, locking us together. “Stay with me, princess.” Unable to separate. Completely vulnerable. Completely connected. Her body tightens around me. The sensation is overwhelming. Intense. Almost too much.
"Look at me."
Her eyes meet mine. Complete trust. Complete surrender. Not because she's weak. Because she's strong enough to choose this. To choose vulnerability. To choose me.
I lean down, my mouth finding her neck where it curves into her shoulder. My teeth graze her skin. A warning. A question.
She tilts her head. Offering.
I bite down. Hard enough to bond. Hard enough to make her mine forever.
The bond snaps into place like a live wire catching.
I feel her—everything. Her pleasure crashing through in waves.
Her trust, deep and unshakeable. Her love wrapping around something in my chest I didn't know needed protecting.
And underneath it all, the thing I'd been holding my breath for: she's not afraid of me.
She sees all of it—the intensity, the command, the need to possess—and she knows exactly what it is.
Her release builds and breaks—I feel it in the way her thighs tremble, the way her fingers twist in my hair, pulling me closer even as her head tips back.
Her face scrunches, mouth falling open on a breathless cry that's half my name and half incoherent sound.
My own climax hits hard, rolling through me in pulses that leave me braced against her, jaw set, breathing through my teeth.
The scent of her pleasure floods the room, mixing with the pack's warmth—Lachlan's steady presence, Jonas's quiet devotion, Finn's chaotic joy—all of it wrapping around us.
Then her eyes fly open and find mine. The trust there, the love, the absolute certainty—it undoes me. My own climax hits hard, rolling through me in pulses that leave me gasping against her throat. My teeth press harder into her skin—not another bite, just instinct, just need.
Everything narrows to this: her heartbeat against mine, the way our breathing syncs, the bond humming between us like a plucked string still vibrating.
I release the bite slowly, my tongue tending to the wound. Sealing the bond.
She shivers and the bond pulses between us. Warm. Steady. Real. Unbreakable. We're locked together, unable to move, unable to separate.
I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
"Are you okay?" I ask, my voice coming out rougher than I intend.
"Yes.” She looks up at me, her eyes still dark, "Are you?"
Her concern reaches somewhere I can't protect. She's asking if I'm okay. After everything. After I just claimed her. After I showed her the most commanding, intense parts of who I am.
"I was terrified," I admit, my forehead resting against hers. "That you'd see me as…"
"As what?" she asks gently.
"As a threat, as someone who would use control to hurt you instead of protect you."
"Never," she says firmly. "You're not a threat, Adrian. You're safety. You're structure. You're the foundation that lets me fly because I know you'll always be there to catch me. You're…"
"Yours," I finish.
"Mine," she agrees. "Completely mine."
I move, trying to find a more comfortable position. The knot still holds us together, swollen and firm. She gasps softly at the movement, her inner walls pulsing around me.
"Sorry," I murmur.
"Don't be," she whispers. "I like it. Being connected like this. Feeling you.”
Something deep and fierce moves through me. "Me too. I never want to let go."
We lie there in the darkness, locked together, the bond settling between us. Warm. Steady. Real. I can feel her contentment through it. Her satisfaction. Her love.
"I love you," she whispers into the silence.
"I love you too," I say. And I mean it. Completely. Utterly. With every fiber of my being.
Around us, the others sleep. Lachlan's purr has started again, soft and steady like a heartbeat. Jonas rolls over, unconsciously moving closer. Finn mumbles something in his sleep, probably about food. But here, in this corner of the nest, it's just us. Locked together. Bonded. Complete.
"Thank you," I whisper.
"For what?"
"For not being afraid of me. For seeing past the intensity to what's underneath."
"Thank you," she whispers back. "For showing me what control really means. For teaching me that surrender isn't weakness."
I tighten my arms around her. She's ours. We're hers. And nothing is ever going to change that. Nothing.
