Chapter Thirty-Eight #3

And when he bent his head to taste her, Adeline told him again.

A hundred times, one for every time she should have said it before now.

She kept waiting for the words to lose all meaning, as some words did when repeated again and again and again.

It never happened; a part of her understood that it never would.

So she said it once more for every slow glide of his tongue.

The pitch of her confession climbed with each cresting wave of pleasure, the words breathy, moaned, barely audible as Kai devoured her like she was his last meal.

She knew he could hear it; his muffled groans vibrated through her core and rolled up her spine, sent her hips arching to meet his mouth.

“Kai,” she breathed.

His hands were bruising her hips, his tongue laving at her aching centre, thick and wet and slow.

Her fingers tangled and tugged the thick waves of his hair, and it was his long, shuddering moan that finally brought her to the edge.

She told him again as she came, one more confession on a broken, begging sob.

He devoured her still, slowing to gentle kisses until her thighs began to jerk and shiver.

Kai licked his lips and stood.

“I love the way you taste.”

He gathered her to him, tilting her head back so he could share that taste with her, his tongue rolling over hers just slow enough to make her whimper.

“I love the way you sound.”

His hand traced the length of her throat and the divot between her breasts, rounding one nipple until she arched into him.

“I love the way you feel.”

Adeline reached between them, and he let her scramble for his belt, lifting her the moment she’d unbound him so he could bring his ache to her own.

Adeline was barely aware of being carried through her bedroom doorway; all that mattered was the feel of him between her thighs, hard where she was soft, sliding back and forth over the spot where she wanted him most. He didn’t part from her for even a moment as he bent over the bed, grunting, glancing down between them as he coated himself with her wetness until it was all Adeline could do not to draw blood biting down on her own lip.

“Fuck, I love the way you feel,” he said again.

He pushed into her body with a single thrust, Adeline’s cry so long and loud she almost missed the sweet words he whispered in her ear.

“I love that you’re mine.”

“I am,” she swore. “I’m yours, always.”

Kai gave a low, contented hum and straightened.

The beds in the Silver Palace were tall, but her Merrow King was taller, and it took a thick pillow folded beneath her low back for their bodies to align.

When they did, the slant of her hips drove his cock deep and high, drawing out mindless, needy sounds she was certain she’d never made in her life. Only with him. Only for Kai.

“I’m yours,” she panted again, a promise and an invitation. To have her, ruin her, conduct her body as only he could.

“All mine,” he said, grin flickering. He hooked his arm beneath her knee and spread her wide, brushing a kiss to her ankle. “My love. My queen. My Adeline.”

In any other circumstance, Adeline would have been mortified to find herself weeping through sex.

But with Kai moving inside her, those sweet words falling from his parted lips like an oath, the truth of her feelings lighting up their bodies like no amount of magic ever could, it seemed perfectly reasonable that her eyes should sting.

That her moans should be wrung out on the edge of her soft, sobbing breaths.

Kai’s brow creased at the sight of her, the lustful blaze of his eyes burning down to something softer, yet no less wanting.

He bent over her, dragging her thighs around his hips so he could crush his body to hers, heartbeat to heartbeat, binding their rhythms while Kai’s thrusts grew choppy and staggered.

He was holding back, as he always did, waiting for her to fall first. But she’d made him wait for so very long, in so many ways. She wanted to know he belonged to her just as much as she did to him; she wanted his pleasure just as much as he’d always claimed hers.

“Come for me,” she whispered. “I want to feel you come.”

She felt him resisting, holding out just a moment longer.

But Adeline rolled her hips, meeting him thrust for aching thrust until he gave in with a stuttering groan, driving her deep into the mattress as he shuddered and tensed.

He pulsed inside her, and with a final wave of boundless love and hot, sweeping pleasure, Adeline finally shattered around him.

Her orgasm broke her apart, and through it all, she could feel him around and within her; her constant and cornerstone. Her everything.

She told him again as they caught their breath, one last time, at least for tonight.

Kai lifted his head from the cradle of her throat and kissed her, slow and sure.

“I’ve loved you since the courtyard, too,” he said. “You were the sunrise on the darkest night of my life, Adeline. I’ll always love you.”

The lump that rose in her throat came alarmingly fast. She swallowed against it, blinking back the accompanying sting as she reached up and gently cupped his face.

“I’ll always love you.”
