EPILOGUE
Present time
Darce was gazing down at me on my bed, wearing only his pants. How long had that vision been? Somehow, he had managed to dress me in my tank top and shorts.
“How long was I out?” I questioned as realisation struck. I must have blacked out while all my memories had flooded back.
“All night. Are you okay?” His voice was laced with concern.
Jumping up and grabbing him, I turned him around to look at the back of his shoulder, searching for any signs of the scar where Lisha and I had healed him.
“Your scar? Did your shoulder fully heal? I can’t believe you used yourself as a shield against my father’s power! You stupid prick!”
“There you are. Fuck, I got worried for a little while.” He pulled me against him in a tight embrace.
“As much as my involvement in your mother’s death still pains me—because I don’t deserve your forgiveness—I didn’t want to have to go through that story all over again.
The hate in your eyes for those few short moments scared the shit out of me.
” I rested my head against his chest as his arms wrapped around my waist.
“I’m sorry for my outburst. I could never hate you. I love you too much.” He breathed in deeply; I could feel the motion of his chest.
“You’ve been trapped in human form for a thousand years. Your emotions haven’t been your own.” That was fucking true. Now I understood why I’d been such a bitch in Earth veil.
“The trigger was sex!” I suddenly remembered. “Why didn’t you tell me that a thousand years ago?” Chuckling, Darce tried to distract me by running his hands over my ass. “My powers are manifesting. I would be careful.”
“You think I can’t handle you?” I could hear the smirk in his voice.
“Oh, I remember how well you can handle me.”
“As much as I would love to continue this conversation, my love, we have a few bigger concerns to discuss.” Glancing up at him, I raised my eyebrow. “Xavier and your father will be able to track you soon. We can discuss the rest once I’ve found a safe hiding place.”
“Where will we hide?”
“I’m taking you veil hopping.” His grin was mischievous. “We can work on those powers of yours, and I can fill you in on everything.” Darce and I were running away, finally!
“You protected my soul tree...all this time?”
His smile was glorious. “Of course I did. I made a promise.” There was nothing this male wouldn’t do for me.
We had so much to catch up on, but now that we were united again, nothing could break us.
Darce had his dark power, and finally, I had my light power. Once I had mastered it, we would be unstoppable.
The poison in our land had been allowed to spread for long enough. It was time to cleanse the world.
It was time to follow our destiny and bring peace to Afterlight.
