Chapter 14

I’m not sure why I have an apartment anymore.

When I’m not at work, I’m at Deacon’s. And I’m not complaining. It feels like he’s finally caught up to where I am. I’ve loved him for so long, it’s just right. He smothers me with affection as if he’s scared I’m going to up and leave any second.

I haven’t told my parents or Lucas yet. Telling them will stir up old feelings, and while I know my parents will be happy that Deacon’s on the scene—I’m not sure how Lucas will feel. Deacon was just like a part of the family before that day.

The day we never talk about.

Deacon’s apartment is amazing. It’s about four times the size of mine, easily, and has a view to die for. We look out over the Hauraki Gulf with a view of Rangitoto. It’s beautiful and serene even though we’re right in the city.

And it’s like this place was just made for me with the window seat right by that beautiful view. It’s perfect for me to curl up and read there while Deacon’s dealing with a work issue. It’s spring, and still a little chilly outside, but the sun streams in the window and all is right with my world.

My nose is buried in a book—which isn’t surprising. I’m going through a romantasy binge right now. Maybe it’s because I found my knight in shining armour.

“Pip.”

I’m so engrossed in my book, I don’t hear Deacon at first but squeal with laughter when he flops down on the window seat, stretching out and dropping his head on my lap.

“Have you finished work?”

He shrugs. “My guys are still working. A switch in the network failed, and I’ve had no explanation yet as to why the backup didn’t kick in. So they’re getting to the bottom of that, and I’ve come to pester you.”

I chuckle. “You could never pester me. But you could wait until I’ve finished my book.”

“Pippa. I’m dying.”

Deacon’s expression causes me to double take.

“What are you talking about?”

He looks at me with those puppy dog eyes. “My mouth needs your pussy, Pippa. I’ll die if I don’t taste it now.”

I drop my book next to me and shake my head. “You’re an idiot.”

“I’ve been thinking about it all day. Don’t make me suffer. Please put me out of my misery.”

Rolling my eyes, I laugh. “I don’t know if that’s hot or you’re sounding pathetic.”

He leaps up to sit beside me and pulls me into his arms. “Whatever it takes to get you to come to bed.”

“But I want to finish my book. I’m so close to the end.”

Deacon shakes his head. “You always were such a bookworm.”

I shrug. “I like to read.”

“But you’re seriously choosing your book over sex with me?”

Brushing my fingers down his face, I smile. “Maybe I could be persuaded …”

His furrowed brow straightens out, and he narrows his gaze at me. “Are you playing with me?”

“Not yet.” My smile widens, and he tilts his head slightly.

“Such a tease.”

He leaps off the couch and before I know it, he’s plucked me up and into his arms. I let out a squeal, and he laughs. “You’re all mine now.”

“I don’t think I’ve ever laughed as much in my life as I have with you.”

His tender kiss makes me swoon.

“Just shows how compatible we really are.”

He carries me into the bedroom before swinging me round and dumping me unceremoniously on the bed as I continue laughing.

“You have no finesse,” I say. “You’re no book hero.”

His eyebrows rise. “We’ll see about that. Race you to get naked.”

I squeal and laugh, peeling my shirt over my head. This is one race I’m not about to lose. I’ve got no buttons, and he groans as his shirt slows him down.

But before Deacon sees me naked, I dive under the covers and pull them up to my neck.

He slows, his pants halfway down his legs. “That’s not fair.”

“Life isn’t fair.”

He chuckles, stripping his pants and boxers off and climbing into bed with me.

After rolling over top of me, he settles between my legs, his hard cock pressed against my thigh.

“So, what did you have planned?” I drape my arms over his shoulders.

“You, me, a lot of foreplay.”

I laugh as he dives under the covers and gasp when his tongue hits my clit. I’ve never known a man to enjoy going down on me the way he does, and he’s voracious with it.

I’m not complaining.

I’m also not complaining when he slides inside me, takes my hands, and raises them over my head, pinning me down while he kisses my lips and then my breasts. Deacon always knows just how to touch me and to make me feel wanted and needed.

Afterward, I lay in his arms and nuzzle his chest.

“What are you reading?” he asks.

I smile to myself. “That’s a random question.”

“What is it that you like about those books so much?”

I turn toward him. One of the things I love most about Deacon is that he takes an interest in everything I do. Doesn’t matter how mismatched it might be with his interests, he’s right there for mine.

“I travel the world without ever leaving home.”

His lips twitch. “Do you want to travel?”

“Some day.”

He plants a soft kiss on my shoulder. “Why haven’t you already? I thought people your age were always going off to get their overseas experience.”

“Did you?”

Deacon chuckles. “No, but I wasn’t big on travelling. We formed the company while we were at uni, and by the time we graduated it was taking off. I just never looked back.”

I suck my bottom lip. “I didn’t have anyone to go with. And I didn’t want to travel alone.”

With a sigh, Deacon tugs me closer into his side. “One day we’ll travel together.”

“I like that idea.”

He brushes his fingers down my cheek. “I’m planning on making all your dreams come true, Pip.”

Gazing into those beautiful blue eyes, I sigh. “I’ve changed my mind.”

His brows dip. “About what?”

“You’re exactly what a book hero should be.”

With a smile, he leans closer and presses a kiss to my lips. “I always want to be your hero.”

As he drifts his hand down my body, I squirm.

“There’s something else you should know,” he murmurs.

“What’s that?”

When his long fingers find their way to my clit, I suck in a breath.

“I really am addicted to your pussy,” he says.

I roll my eyes and give his arm a gentle slap. “Stop.”

Deacon’s intense look sends a shiver down my spine. “I mean it.”

His eyes search mine.

It’s not the ‘I love you’ I want to hear, but I’ll take it.
