Chapter Sixteen #3

His hands were tied.

Genesis was new to this, and she couldn’t fight in the static if her life depended on it.

Then, there was Oracle.

Pretty.

Sweet.

Oracle.

Before the day was out, he’d make sure he had her in his grips, and then, he’d be able to enjoy each and every soul that she protected in the static.

Like his ancestors, he was going to feast.

For his mother.

For his father.

And right before he got his hands on Genesis.

She would be his.

Bet on it.

Littlemoon Investigations

The Static Trip

Lucian was so much less stressed now.

Everything was set up, and they were in a big circle in the middle of the waiting area.

Thanks to Booth and Raven, they were safe, and they could take a little trip into the static to show Genesis what her gift entailed.

Now, thankfully, nothing would touch them in here.

He hoped.

The last thing Lucian wanted was chaos in the static. He wasn’t going to be able to control much of anything in there without Ridge.

Riding off of Avalon’s gift, they would be at the mercy of her power.

That worried him, but when would the three of them ever be in the same room again together to do this? If what she said about them was true, and this was their destiny from the start, it was time to see what would happen.

Because he was a curious person, and the static was calling to him.

God.

His body craved Ridge’s, and he was desperate to get into the static to burn off some of that anxiety.

Hopefully, all went well.

More important than him burning off energy, this was going to be an introduction to see exactly what Genesis had in her when it came to her gift.

Oracle seemed to know, but that was out of his pay grade.

Apparently.

Both he and Genesis were clueless, and hopefully, they’d understand when they came out again.

Lucian was nervous.

And he wasn’t alone.

Both Avalon’s husband and Genesis’ new one were all kinds of twitchy.

Oh, and he understood that.

“What if I screw this up?” Genesis asked, feeling the tension in her husband’s body. He was hovering, and she could feel his concern.

Avalon reassured her.

“You can’t really screw it up. I’ll keep you protected, and we’ll go in and get you familiar with it. We might need the three of us to find him, if you adjust to the static this first trip in. If not, we can keep trying.”

Lucian knew what she was saying.

To want to maneuver in the static was one thing. They didn’t know if Genesis would be open to it.

She could hate it.

Then, it was up to them to take care of this entity when they encountered him.

A lot was riding on this.

“Is he in there?” she asked.

Avalon squeezed her hand.

“Yes, but I can keep us safe. I know you’re worried he’ll find you, but he won’t. I won’t let him follow you around, as he tries to hurt you.”

She released the pent-up breath she was holding.

“Okay. I trust you.”

They would need that and so much more.

“Please keep her safe,” Josh said.

From the tone in his voice, they knew that he wasn’t enjoying any kind of nonsense that might go down.

Oh, and they got it.

“I’ll be good, Josh,” she promised.

Oh, he hoped so.

What he wanted was his wife to be safe and sound. If it took this kind of thing to stop this madman from coming for her, he was good with it.

While a normal person would be wary of this kind of a thing, he was okay with woo-woo shit.

The Littlemoons were legit, and he trusted them.

After all, they knew about his twin, and they’d helped him come to grips with his death. After speaking to him, he’d gotten over the guilt, and he was healing.

And could move on with life.

So, he’d trust Lucian to keep his new wife safe.

From beside Booth, Raven issued his customary warning to them. If he’d said it once, he’d said it a thousand times.

“Stay in the circle,” Raven stated. “If you come out of the circle, it will break, and all that’s in it will be free.”

Well, no one wanted that.

Going into the static to teach Genesis was the plan, but truthfully, Avalon was also getting ready to do some sketchy shit. She knew what was coming, and how Lucian would die.

Now, she’d begin bending fate, trying to save his life. The last thing she wanted to see was her friend lose his life.

Would it change fate?

Yes, but she was willing to do just that. Sacrifices would be made.

“We will,” she said. “No worries, Raven.”

Oh, well, he had plenty of worries.

And all of them were because of Oracle, as of late.

As they stepped into the circle, Raven and Booth walked barefoot around the circle of salt on the floor in the waiting area of the business.

Furniture was moved, and the place was made to be their space. The meditation room upstairs was too small for all of them, so this would have to do.

Thankfully, it was a weekend, so no one was coming in there.

Plus, the doors were locked.

As they kept walking and chanting, Avalon took Genesis’ hand, and Lucian did the same. The three of them sat in a circle within the circle.

“Here we go,” Lucian said, feeling the tugs of the static as his door opened, leading him in.

It felt weird going in without Ridge at his side, but he pushed that away, knowing there was nothing he could do about it.

I’m going to watch for him. Be on guard, Lucian.

He heard her in his mind.

I will be.

Focusing on Genesis, he helped her.

“Don’t fight the sensation of sinking,” he said, helping Genesis learn how to do this.

She listened and did what he said.

Meanwhile, Avalon was in her head and helped her get into the static. She was opening the doors to give her access to that part of her mind.

And there was no pushback.

It was easy.

For the first time, Genesis did it well.

As they made it, they were in a meadow of flowers. The three of them landed in the soft flowers, feeling them under their feet.

“Oh, it’s pretty,” Genesis said, looking around at the vivid colors.

Silently, Avalon taught her how to manipulate it. As she did, Genesis was learning quickly. With nothing to fear, she was open to the experience.

“This is my mind. This is where I go to help people. I like nature, and being out in it. It’s full of colors because out in the world, I can’t see. I like to surround myself with it. Your place will look what you want it to look like.”

She sounded surprised.

“Really?”

Avalon’s laughter filled the space, and it offered comfort, warmth, and gentleness.

Genesis wasn’t afraid.

“And we’re still sitting in the circle?” she asked.

Avalon used her strength to flicker them between here and there, showing Genesis that reality, and this safe space.

Genesis took it all in.

She could see herself sitting in the building with them, and then it jumped back to this one.

“Wow. That’s kind of cool. It’s like toggling between documents on a computer.”

That it was.

Truthfully, Avalon was glad that she was enjoying it.

“Lucian’s space is a big bedroom in a stone-walled castle. He thinks of himself as the beast, and that’s what he manifested. His trip into the static is uniquely his. We all find a way to manifest our power in different ways.”

She was curious.

“Why a bedroom?” she asked as she picked a pretty poppy that had been dancing at her feet.

Lucian knew.

"My gift is tied to Ridge as my tuner. I use sex to get deeper into the static. So, we fornicate in the bed that is in my head. My gift is fed by lust. Avalon’s is fed by peace, and we don’t know what feeds yours yet.”

For Genesis, this was all weird.

Not horrible, but strange.

She read her mind.

“It is, a little bit,” Avalon said. “And yes, you’re in my head, so I know everything you’re thinking. You’re wondering if Josh can join you, and one day, he will. It takes time to learn how to do this. It took Lucian a while to teach Ridge.”

She was curious.

“Will I have to have sex to do this?”

Avalon smiled.

“No. Your gift is different than Lucian’s. Right now, he’s tense because his body is calling for Ridge, and he has locked his mind down, so he doesn’t bother the man.”

She was curious.

“And if he unlocked it?”

Lucian showed her.

They flickered to his mind, to his room, and indeed, there was a bed there. It was massive, and the castle looked medieval. The bed was covered in furs, lined with red silk, and could be found in some erotic novel.

“Ridge, can you hear me?” he called.

They all stood there.

Then, they felt him. There was a warm wave of lust, and it washed through the room. It was akin to when two lovers saw each other after being apart.

Then, they heard him.

“I hear you. Are you okay?” he asked, sleepily. “My heart hurts, Lucian,” he offered.

There was peace and love from Lucian, as he did what he could in the static.

“I have you, my love. Rest. I’m with you.”

Instantaneously, Ridge quieted down, and that sorrow dissipated.

Lucian explained.

“He’s hurting, and I don’t know how to make this better,” he admitted. “But even in his pain, he’s connected to me. We did a sex magic spell, and we’re bound together.”

She was curious.

“How did he hear you if he’s asleep?”

Lucian shared.

“The static and sleep are side by side in our minds. He heard me call because it’s connected. He has psychic ability, so his brain is wired differently. Like all of ours.”

There were soft whimpers as he was talking about the man.

“I hurt, Lucian. I failed her.”

Immediately, Avalon sent healing energy through Lucian, to help soothe the man.

“He will be okay,” she promised. “He just needs time, and for the truth to come out.”

He lifted a brow.

“The truth?”

Avalon ignored him.

Lucian needed to know, and he was about to ask, but he felt Avalon hush him in his mind.

Only, if he lost Ridge…

He’d lose part of himself.

“So that’s our minds. Now, show us what’s in yours,” she said, urging Genesis on to explore her gifts. “Think about it and pull us with you. Think about all three of us seeing your space.”

She tried, and as she did, the space morphed around them, as it began to take shape.

“Just like that,” Avalon said. “You have this.”

As they saw it coming into focus, jumping together piece by piece, it was a calming place.
