Epilogue

Normal. That’s all Noah wanted—everything back to the way it was before he’d tasted Meg’s lips and lost his mind.

He stood on the back porch of the Grand Canyon’s North Rim Lodge, his chest locked tight.

It had been five days since he’d almost kissed Meg for the second time.

Five days of dodging morning coffee, taking alternate routes through the village, working double shifts just to avoid those knowing blue eyes.

Pathetic didn’t begin to cover it.

He scanned the porch for Liam, needing to discuss the North Kaibab Trail closure due to a landslide after another big rainstorm had come through a couple days ago.

The monsoons seemed to have arrived early this year.

Time to get back to business. Back to normal.

Maybe then this ache in his ribs would ease up.

Movement caught his eye at the far end of the porch.

Liam and Nimue. Again.

Arms wrapped around each other like they were the only two people on earth, her sketchbook forgotten on the bench beside them. The woman had nearly died ten days ago, and now they couldn’t keep their hands off each other.

Noah cleared his throat. Loudly.

They broke apart, Nimue’s cheeks flushing pink as she tucked a wayward strand behind her ear. Liam just grinned, unrepentant, keeping his arm firmly around her waist.

“Hey, Noah. What’s up?”

“Trail report came in—” Noah held up his phone, but the words died as the lodge door burst open.

“There you guys are!” Teague exploded onto the porch, phone clutched in his fist like he’d struck gold. “You have to see this.”

Nimue winced as she shifted forward, still tender from her injuries. They all crowded around Teague’s screen, squinting against the afternoon glare.

A news channel blazed across the display, headline screaming in bold letters: “Hidden Treasure Found in Grand Canyon.”

Noah’s blood turned cold.

Brian’s face filled the screen—that cocky teenager from their canyon rescue, the one who’d gathered Nimue’s stuff.

The newscaster’s voice came through the speaker.

“A local teenager claims he saw a gold bar from a treasure chest hidden in Grand Canyon National Park. The chest was reportedly part of a publicity stunt by Teddy Roosevelt’s great-grandson, designed to boost tourism.

With one chest discovered, park officials confirm two more remain hidden, sparking renewed treasure-hunting interest across the southwest… ”

No. No, no, no.

Noah glanced at Liam, whose jaw went granite hard, muscle ticking at his temple.

“He helped me with Nimue’s belongings after she fell.” Liam’s voice came out strangled. “The kid must’ve seen the gold. I never thought—”

Noah folded his arms and leaned against the railing, Teague’s phone still playing the clip.

The newscaster detailed the stunt—three chests of gold bars hidden to draw visitors, each worth millions.

Graphics showed park maps and photos of the heir, hyping the story.

Noah’s stomach churned. With the news out, treasure hunters would flood the canyon.

Hundreds of them. Maybe thousands. Descending on the canyon like locusts, tearing up fragile ecosystems, ignoring safety protocols, turning the sanctuary into a circus.

His gaze met Liam’s, then Teague’s. The same thought written across all of their faces.

The crazy was just getting started.
