Fallon
After stealing a few more kisses, I say goodbye to Jett and walk back into the house.
Four pairs of curious eyes are on me, but I ignore them, heading straight for the freezer.
I grab a bag of frozen corn, plop onto one of my stools, place it directly between my legs, and sigh. “Yes, I’m that sore.”
The four of them burst into loud laughter. I can’t help but join in on the silliness.
“That good?” Cassandra inquires with amusement.
My eyelids flutter. “Sooo good. He’s ridiculously thick. My poor vagina will never be the same again. And his turnaround time was crazy. My heartbeat didn’t even have time to return to normal before he wanted another round.”
“He’s crazy hot,” Amanda offers on a moan. “Even hotter than on TV.”
“So hot,” I agree on a moan of my own. “And sweet. He planned that date to a tee. He’s the most thoughtful man.
He outwardly looks so rough and tough, but he’s a marshmallow inside.
He got to the restaurant an hour early last night to teach the bartender how to make a drink he thought I’d like and to chat with the band leader about music and dances he thought would work for me. ”
Darian shakes her head. “I’m so confused.
How did you end up on a date with Jett Jeffries?
” All they knew was I had a blind date with a man I was talking to on the dating app.
“Women at our pickleball club drool for him. I’ve never once seen him give anyone the time of day.
He’s been steadfast that he didn’t want to be fixed up. ”
Without revealing things he’s confided to me, I go into the whole story that only Reggie knew beforehand. From my night with Jett at the party and setting up the dating app, to my rejecting him, to my nightly chats with Lloyd in the app, to finding out Lloyd is Jett.
“Wow,” I breathe, “when I say it out loud, it sounds really fucked up.”
Cassandra shrugs. “Not everything is as it seems. It’s all about perspective.”
“Like what?” I challenge.
She thinks for a moment before answering. “If you watch Jaws backward, it’s a heartwarming story about a shark who gives arms and legs to people who need them.”
I giggle. “You’re a fool.”
She smiles. “I’m being serious. Don’t look at the situation as a negative.
He’s interested. He knows you are too, despite your concerns.
He wanted you to get to know him as a person before passing final judgment.
There’s nothing wrong with that, especially for a man who looks like him and could be fucking around if he wanted to.
I rejected Trevor for over a year because of our age difference.
He was persistent, and, at some point, he made me see that things could work for us despite the large age gap. ”
“Are you guys together now?” Amanda asks me.
I shrug. “I don’t know. How does that even work these days? Does he pass me a note in study hall asking me to go steady? I’ve been single so long that when someone recently asked me who I’m with, I said Verizon.”
Reggie raises an eyebrow. “You seemed very together when I walked into your bedroom this morning. He was holding onto you for dear life.” Her eyes move down to the frozen corn. “We need more details about his longevity. How long are we talking?”
“Hours. We fucked for hours. Several times. Over and over. I’m officially sleep deprived.”
She twists her lips. “Sam and I did it for three hours last night. We did a whole doctor-patient role-play thing. I sat in the waiting room for two hours and fifty-eight minutes, and then we had sex for two.”
The girls all giggle at Reggie’s antics.
I shrug. “We’re seeing where things go. I like that he’s straightforward. He wants us to spend time together and is saying so.”
Darian smacks the kitchen island. “Well, I think you deserve this, Fallon. He’s a good guy. Let him woo you. Let him wine and dine you.”
I make a look of disgust. “I don’t want to be wined and dined.
I want to be taco’d and tequila’d. Fajita’d and margarita’d.
Queso’d and embraco’d. And he understood all that from our conversations.
The sexiest thing a man can do isn’t necessarily physical.
It’s listening. He remembered what I said days, weeks, and months ago, and then planned an evening accordingly. That’s so attractive to me.”
Cassandra smirks. “I get that, but the packaging doesn’t hurt.”
“No, it doesn’t,” I respond. “Physical attraction is obviously not an issue. He’s…irresistible to me.” I look at all of them with their coffee mugs sitting around my kitchen island and smile. “By the way, you’re all sitting at the first place we fucked last night.”
They immediately push their chairs back in disgust while I laugh.
Amanda and Cassandra’s phones suddenly ping at the same time.
Cassandra looks down and rolls her eyes.
“It’s that Stephanie Blake psychopath. She’s looking for volunteers for the Valentine’s Day party, the St. Patrick’s Day party, Easter, Passover, and whatever else is going on every damn week at that school.
Bitch, get a job, or at least respect that I have one I can’t skip every fucking Wednesday morning to be swim mom.
Or Mondays to be show-and-tell mom. Or Fridays to be snack mom. ”
I groan in annoyance. “Ugh. It’s incessant and totally out of line. Can’t we just contribute to whatever they need and not be constantly hassled and belittled for being unable to spend all day at the school every day?”
Cassandra nods. “I told her I identify as a Venmo mom.”
“Me too.” I smile as I stand and say, “I appreciate you gossip hounds showing up when Reggie sent out the bat signal, but I need to get back to Tanner’s. Bailey is probably waiting for me.”
They collectively groan in annoyance. They think it’s crazy that I’m still living there. They’re not wrong.
