Fallon
Jett pulls me into the foyer area of the suite and takes me into his arms. “You’ll be okay today, right?” he asks with worry written all over his handsome face.
I nod. “Stop stressing about this. We’re fine.”
It’s my first full day alone with Pierce, and Jett is anxious about it.
Pierce is a kind, sweet boy with a mild, laid-back demeanor.
He’s very different from Jett and Kennedy, who are so alike, but not in a bad way.
He was a little nervous and uncomfortable around me at first, but that quickly dissipated.
He’s wonderful with Harper, something I didn’t anticipate at all.
They’ve formed a very natural bond, which I’m sure was helped by his seeing how seamlessly Kennedy and Harper interact.
Jett looks back toward the living room. “Maybe I should make sure he took his anti-anxiety meds. He can be a mess if he misses them. I don’t want you to have to deal with it.”
I wrap my arms around him to hold him in place. “Don’t. He’s an adult. I’m sure he took them, but I’ll subtly confirm with him if it makes you feel better. And Kennedy will be with me all day. Don’t focus on anything or anyone except the game tonight.”
His brow is still creased as his hands travel up the giant sweatshirt I’m wearing and onto my belly. “Any word?”
I grab his face. “Focus. Kind of a big game today. We’ve got the rest of our lives to worry about other things. Today is about the Camels and only the Camels. Keep your head in the game, Coach.”
We both went in for a full workup to see what our options are for conceiving. Jett’s swimmers are fine, but I’m not producing eggs at an optimal level. The doctor told me conceiving naturally will be difficult. I didn’t want to burden Jett with this before the big game. I’ll tell him tomorrow.
The good news is I still have all my frozen eggs from years ago.
The doctor thinks that if we utilize in vitro with those eggs, I’ll be able to carry.
Or we can consider a gestational host. While I’m slightly disappointed he doesn’t think we can conceive naturally, I know I’m fortunate I have the frozen eggs and we have the means to afford as many cycles of in vitro as it takes.
His hands move around to my panty-covered ass while he pulls me close to him. “We’ll do whatever it takes to get you what you want, angel face.”
I move my hands to the back of his neck and pull him down for a kiss. “All I want today is for you to kick ass. No trophies for second place in this family.”
He smiles into my mouth. “Happy Valentine’s Day, angel face.
I left a gift for you under your pillow.
” He kisses his way to my ear and whispers, “I want you to wear it under your clothes at the game today. Every time I look up at your suite, I want to know what’s underneath your clothing.
I’m going to peel it off with my teeth later. ”
I shiver from his words, wishing I could drag him back to bed.
I’m about to say something dirty back to him when there’s a commotion in the hallway. Jett opens the door to see what it is. I can’t see around his giant body, but before I know it, he’s taking off down the hallway in a dead sprint, running after Daylen.
Kennedy opens her door in hysterical laughter.
Given that she’s wearing a tiny, pre-maternity silk robe that covers nothing on her body, I can guess what just happened.
Players aren’t supposed to fraternize with their loved ones this week.
They’re supposed to be staying on a different floor of the hotel.
“You’re a troublemaker,” I tell her.
She shrugs, seemingly unaffected. “Why can’t players sleep with their wives this week? It’s bullshit. They need sex to calm their nerves. I was performing a public service.”
“They’re supposed to be focused on the game without any other distractions.” I look her barely there robe up and down. “Clearly you’re not a rule follower.”
“I’m too fucking pregnant and horny to care about silly team rules.” She takes in my obvious post-sex wardrobe selection. “Look who’s talking.”
Can’t argue with that, so I don’t. “Your dad ordered breakfast for all of us. He got you blueberry pancakes with a side order of waffles and bacon.”
Her eyes light up as she begins to walk across the hallway toward my room. “Ooh, yes. I built up a huge appetite this morning. Orgasms make me famished.”
I hold up my hand. “Put on some clothes. You can’t walk in here like that.”
She looks down at herself. “Whoops. I’ll be right back. Don’t let Pierce near my pancakes.”
Thirty minutes later, we’re all in a breakfast coma. Pierce leans his head back on the sofa and smiles dreamily. “That food was gas.”
Kennedy holds her belly as she lies on the sofa and places her head on my lap. “I may never eat again.”
Pierce snorts in laughter. “You’ll be grubbing in an hour.”
She narrows her eyes at him. “You try carrying the baby of a giant gorilla man and see how hungry it makes you.”
I wince. I hadn’t considered Jett’s size and what that would mean for a baby. I’m not sure my tiny body can handle it.
As if reading my mind, Kennedy smiles at me. She knows we want to try to have more kids, but Pierce and Harper don’t.
“Will you play with my hair?” she asks as she nuzzles into me.
I nod as I begin to softly run my fingernails over her scalp the way I know she likes it.
She’s become increasingly clingy with me of late.
The more pregnant she is, the more she needs a maternal presence in her life.
She’s always asking me questions and wants me with her for every little thing.
I don’t mind at all, but I do wish she’d consider reaching out to Ginny. She won’t even consider it.
I’ve talked to Amanda about it. She doesn’t have a relationship with her biological mother, instead depending on Beckett’s mother.
She sees Beckett’s mother as her own. She told me to stop trying to force Kennedy and embrace how strong my relationship is with her.
To focus on giving Kennedy what she’s missing. So that’s what I’ve been doing.
Pierce studies our familiar interaction before looking me in the eyes. “What do I call you once you get married to my dad?”
“Call me whatever you want, Pierce. I’m not taking the place of your mother.”
Harper nods. “I call my bonus mom Bails just like I did before they were married.”
“I’m calling you Mom,” Kennedy happily announces.
I see Pierce getting uptight at that. I look at him. “Call me Fallon if that makes you the most comfortable. Call me anything except bruh,” I joke, and it makes him smile.
