30. Rakim #3

I’d broke into the nigga’s lil spot, kidnapped him—my specialty—and brought him out to the woods to play.

Shaking his head before his words could form, he replied, “Nah. I-I wasn’t. I was just, um, see—”

“I already know the truth, nigga. And see, I tried to let you go free because I thought you understood that I took Daylin and she was mine—end of fucking story. But nah, you couldn’t just take that L and move the fuck on, huh?

You had to attempt to poach my people, but what you don’t understand is, nigga, I run my shit off loyalty and respect.

Niggas who make money under me would never betray me, because they respect me, and they loyal to a nigga.

“But see, you don’t know what the fuck you doing or who you even talking to.

You a low-level street hustler for a reason, Shaun.

You not built to lead or run shit. Now, I don’t know why you let a nigga convince you that you could lead and, not only that, take some shit from me, but you gon’ regret it. Get out.”

“It was ya father! He showed up and told me to do that shit! I ain’t want to!” Shaun was damn near on the verge of crying, and the fact that this nigga ever walked around with my fiancée on his arm pissed me off.

“Yeah. I know. Ya boy Morris told me before I slit his throat,” I informed, and Shaun’s eyes mushroomed to what looked like a preternatural size.

Morris was a bitch like Shaun but even more so if possible.

I barely got the question out of who’d pumped Shaun’s head and balls up to make him try me, before he told me it was Nate.

Of course. So not only had Nate murdered my mother and brother, he tried to take money out my pocket and even had Josias and I shot at outside of the boxing gym, and it was all because Josias and I were suspicious of Zaire’s death.

I snatched Shaun up by his bicep and tossed him out and onto the dirt.

“Aight!” He hopped to his feet when I barked at him to stand. “Look, what you need me to do? I swear I’d rather work with you than against you. Fuck Daylin. You—”

“Fuck who?” I yanked my sawed-off shotgun from leaning on the van and aimed it at him. “Nigga, don’t you ever disrespect my woman like that.”

Shaun stood horrified, mouth opening and closing like a malfunctioning robot as he thought on what to say.

“Not like that!”

“Say she’s a beautiful black queen that you never even deserved to kiss the feet of, and I mean right muthafuckin’ now, nigga.” I kept my shit trained on him.

“She’s a beautiful black queen that I never even deserved to kiss the feet of!” He trembled, yelling.

“Who the fuck you hollering at?” I jumped at him, gun still in his face and he flinched, causing me to cackle unintentionally, but I’d never seen a grown ass man so petrified.

“Nah, Rakim! I just meant I won’t try to get with her or betray you ag-gain.”

“I know ’cause you’ll be dead.” I lowered the gun.

“Rak—”

“Now, this game we about to play is called ‘the hunt’. You’re the prey, and I’m the predator, hence why we out in the woods.” I grinned.

Shaun whipped his head around as if he’d just realized we were surrounded by trees and a deep forest.

“Where the fuck are we? Rah, please, man!”

“Now I will give you a head start, considering you were in a lil bit of a slumber a moment ago. You run, and I will hunt you. Game ends . . . when you die. Go.”

Shaun hesitated but then took off running. I watched for a moment before walking after him as he did his best to evade and confuse me, dipping through trees and shit.

I could’ve easily killed him only seconds in because he was stupid and had no real survival instincts, but I had a plan in place.

I trailed Shaun from afar, shooting a couple times because it was comical to see him jump and hear the screams he let out.

Finally, he made it through the forest and onto the pebbly grounds of a cabin, pond water in the backyard, as I let off another shot.

He skidded to a stop at the sight of four big ass horses, each of my dad’s limbs tied to one.

My father had been tortured on the daily since being at the warehouse until I could secure the animals.

“Rah, I’m yo’ fathe—arrgghhh!”

Shaun’s abrupt entrance and my gunshot startled the horses as I’d expected, causing them to run, ripping Nate apart as he let out a blood curdling scream. He’d pleaded with everything in him as my brothers and I bound him to the horses, but it was ineffective.

He’d thought the murder of my mama and using her life insurance money on his side bitch was funny, and I thought him being quartered by horses was funny.

Shaun’s eyes almost fell out of his head as his mouth dropped.

“Thought you should see ya counterpart go.” Josias smirked, gesturing toward the blood on the ground and what was left of my father, now torn apart.

“Rakim, man—”

The bullet I’d sent into the middle of Shaun’s forehead cut his sentence off as his body collapsed onto the rocky ground. Josias and I came to stand over him, just as Ayan exited the cabin to take a look as well.

“Glad I left Daylin alone,” he said, and though it was probably too soon, the shit was still slightly funny.
