Chapter 19, Aria
The journey back to his chambers was a silent, dreamlike procession.
The stone corridors of the keep were empty, the echoes of their footsteps the only sound.
Aria rested her head on Thorne’s shoulder, the steady, rhythmic beat of his heart a comforting thrum against her ear.
She was boneless with exhaustion and exhilaration, her body still humming with the energy of the run.
She felt safe, cherished, and utterly, completely his.
He pushed open the door to his chambers with his foot, carrying her inside without breaking his stride. The fire was burning low in the hearth, casting a warm, intimate glow over the room. He walked to the center of the room and gently lowered her to her feet, his hands lingering on her waist.
She looked up at him, her heart swelling with an emotion so powerful it almost brought tears to her eyes. He was watching her with an intensity that took her breath away, his grey eyes soft and open, stripped of their usual Alpha guard.
He reached into a small, carved wooden box on his dresser and turned back to her.
In his palm lay a collar. But it wasn’t like the rough leather one she currently wore.
This was a work of art, a wide, intricate band of polished silver, so finely wrought it looked like liquid moonlight.
At the front, nestled in the delicate filigree, was the sigil of the snarling wolf.
But it wasn’t made of silver. It was made of emeralds, a cluster of deep, vibrant green stones that caught the firelight and shimmered with an inner fire.
They were the exact color of her eyes. Aria’s breath hitched, her hand flying to her mouth.
“Thorne… it’s… it’s beautiful.”
“This is your true collar,” he said, his voice a low, intimate rumble.
“The other was just for travel. This… this is for you.”
He took a step closer, his gaze never leaving hers.
“When I saw you at the Choosing, I thought I was buying a vessel, a tool for my pack. I was a fool.”
He shook his head, a flicker of self-deprecation in his eyes.
“You are everything I have ever needed, everything I never knew I wanted.”
He reached out and gently traced the line of her jaw with his thumb.
“I need to ask for your forgiveness, Aria. For the beginning. For being so rough. I was ruled by duty and instinct, and I didn’t see you. I didn’t see the incredible woman you are.”
Aria’s heart ached for him, for the vulnerability he was showing her.
She reached up and placed her hand over his, her fingers lacing with his.
“Thorne, no,” she said softly. “You don’t have to apologize. I was scared. I didn’t understand.”
“I know,” he said. “And I will try to be better. I will try to curb my more dominant impulses, to be gentler.” She shook her head, her expression firm.
“No,” she said, her voice clear and strong.
“Don’t.” She looked him straight in the eye, laying her soul bare.
“I don’t want you to. I understand now. Your dominance… it’s not a threat. It’s who you are. It’s the strength that protects this pack, the fire that keeps you all safe.”
She took a shaky breath. “And I need it. I need *you*. I need your dominance, your intensity. I… I crave it.”
His eyes darkened, a raw, hungry possessiveness blazing in their depths.
He saw her. He finally, truly saw her. He held up the silver collar, a silent question in his eyes.
Aria’s answer was to sink to her knees before him.
She bowed her head, her auburn hair cascading over her shoulders, exposing the nape of her neck and the rough leather of her temporary collar.
“Please,” she whispered, her voice thick with emotion.
“Put it on me.” A low growl rumbled in his chest, a sound of pure, unadulterated triumph.
He gently unbuckled the old collar, letting it fall to the floor.
He took the new one, the cool silver a stark contrast to his warm hands, and fastened it around her neck.
It fit perfectly, the weight of it a comforting, beautiful claim.
He tilted her head up, his thumb stroking the emerald wolf.
“Mine,” he breathed.
“Yours,” she echoed. She looked up at him, her body thrumming with a need so powerful it bordered on pain.
“Thorne,” she whispered, her voice trembling with desire.
“Take me. Claim me. Not as a transaction. Not as an Alpha. As your mate.”
He didn’t need to be told twice. He scooped her into his arms, lifting her as if she weighed nothing, and carried her to the bed.
He laid her down gently, her hair fanning out across the dark silk of the sheets.
He stood over her for a moment, his eyes burning with an intensity that made her skin tingle.
Then, he began to undress her. His movements were slow, deliberate, reverent.
He unbuttoned her dress, his knuckles brushing against her skin, his eyes following every inch of flesh as it was revealed.
He peeled the fabric away, baring her to his gaze, his worshipful attention making her feel like a goddess.
But then, he did something unexpected. He walked over to the dresser and returned with two long, silk scarves. He took her wrist, his touch gentle but firm, and tied it to the bedpost. He did the same with her other wrist, securing her arms above her head.
A tinge of fear, sharp and cold, pricked at her. She was bound, helpless, completely at his mercy. She pulled against the restraints, her breath hitching. Thorne saw the flicker of fear in her eyes. He leaned down, his face inches from hers.
“Shh,” he murmured, his voice a soothing balm. “Trust me, little one. I would never hurt you. I’m going to make you feel so good. Just let go. Let me have you.” His words, his gentle tone, calmed her fears. She took a deep breath and nodded, giving herself over to him completely.
And then he began to torment her. He started with his hands, stroking and teasing, his touch a maddeningly light caress that traced every curve, every hollow, but never stayed long enough to satisfy.
He moved to his mouth, his lips and tongue a hot, wet torment against her skin.
He kissed her, his tongue delving deep, then moved to her neck, her collarbone, the sensitive skin of her inner thighs.
He brought her to the brink of orgasm again and again with his mouth, only to pull back at the last second, leaving her gasping and writhing, a desperate, needy ache building deep inside her.
She was a mess of sensation, her body slick with sweat, her mind a haze of pleasure. She begged him, pleaded with him, but he just smiled, a slow, predatory smile, and continued his sweet torture.
Finally, when she thought she would shatter into a million pieces from the need alone, he positioned himself between her legs.
He didn’t enter her right away. He just rested the heavy, heated length of his erection against her slick folds, teasing her, making her lift her hips, trying to draw him in.
“Please, Thorne,” she sobbed. “Please.” With a low groan, he finally thrust into her, filling her completely in one smooth, powerful stroke.
The sensation was overwhelming, a perfect, exquisite fullness that finally soothed the desperate ache.
He began to move, his strokes slow and deep, his hips grinding against hers, hitting a spot deep inside her that made her see stars.
He untied her wrists, and she immediately wrapped her arms around his neck, her legs around his waist, pulling him deeper, meeting his every thrust.
He kissed her, a deep, possessive kiss that tasted of her own desire.
The world dissolved, the room, the bed, the fire—it all faded away until there was nothing left but the feeling of him moving inside her, the sound of his ragged breathing in her ear, the overwhelming pleasure that built and built until it consumed her entirely.
She came with a scream, her body convulsing, her inner muscles clamping down on him as a wave of ecstasy so intense it was almost painful washed over her. He followed her over the edge with a hoarse shout, his body shuddering as he poured himself into her.
He collapsed on top of her, his weight a welcome anchor in the storm of sensation.
They lay there, tangled together, their bodies slick with sweat, their hearts hammering in unison.
Aria felt his arms tighten around her, his face buried in her hair.
She was no longer sure where she ended and he began.
They were one. And she had never felt more complete, more safe, or more loved in her entire life.
