Chapter 29
Chapter 29
J ames and ZsaZsa left a few hours later. James took a moment to speak with Nailah.
“The vehicle did not follow when we pulled away.” Nailah’s brow dipped in concentration. “Their target is either you or Princess ZsaZsa.”
“Where is Sabra?” James inquired.
“She acquired another vehicle. She will follow the person to see where it leads.”
James nodded, then got into his vehicle.
“Is there something amiss?” ZsaZsa asked.
Not wanting to lie to her, he shrugged. “It’s probably nothing. However, Sabra is checking it out.”
“It is the vehicle that followed us here that has you concerned, is it not?”
He had no idea she had noticed the vehicle too. She was more alert than she let on.
“I check my surroundings whenever I leave my home,” ZsaZsa advised. “I am with you therefore I am not concerned with my safety.”
“You know I will never let anything happen to you. I will give my life to protect yours.”
“That is what concerns me, James,” ZsaZsa drew in a deep breath.
He did not like the sound of concern in her voice. As he pulled off, he pressed a button on his dashboard display.
“Yo yo, what’s up?” Elliott’s voice came through the speaker.
“I’m with ZsaZsa. There’s a vehicle that tailed us from LaVeré’s place to here.”
“Where are you?”
“We’re just leaving my aunt Nikki’s house. I’m taking ZsaZsa to her place. Sabra is trying to follow the car. It sure would be nice to have some company when we reach our destination.”
“Consider it done,” Elliott responded, then disconnected the call.
“Are we overly concerned, James?”
James glanced at ZsaZsa briefly. “No. When it comes to you, I can never be too careful.”
It was a short drive from Nikki’s house to ZsaZsa’s downtown condo. When they arrived, James pulled into the underground parking rather than in front of the building where visitors park. He knew whoever was following them could not get into the private parking area. Nailah followed him in, parking next to him.
“He’s still with us,” James stated as she approached him.
“Affirmative. The target needs to be determined,” Nailah advised.
“I agree,” James nodded. “Let’s get ZsaZsa into the condo. I will leave. Let’s see if he follows.”
“James, I do not think we should separate,” ZsaZsa said concerned.
“Don’t worry. I’m not going anywhere until we know what’s happening here,” James stated. “You go inside, and I’ll drive around to see if I can draw him out.”
“Nailah will secure me. Who is going to ensure your safety?” ZsaZsa inquired.
“Elliott is out there. We passed him and Calvin right before we pulled into the parking area.”
“I did not see them,” ZsaZsa countered.
“You should not have. I knew what to look for,” James replied as he gently kissed her. “Inside. I’ll be back in a moment. Nailah message me the minute she is in the condo.” James got back into his vehicle. He pushed the button to call Elliott. “What do you see?”
“Black sedan on the left when you come out.” Elliott replied.
“He’s driving a rental,” Calvin stated. “It’s under the name of a corporation. I need my big brain to go deeper. That’s all I have for now.”
“See if you can narrow it down more when you get back to your brain.” James stated referring to the computer center Calvin worked from. “I’m pulling out now. We need to see if he follows.”
“We see you from our position.” Elliott stated. “But I see no signs of him following you. In fact, he is in a good vantage point to watch ZsaZsa’s place.”
James received the text indicating ZsaZsa was in the condo.
“He’s making a call,” Calvin advised.
“Can you trace the call?”
“Not from here,” Calvin replied. “I’ll check in with Zoe to see what she can do.”
“He’s not moving,” Elliott pointed out. “In fact, it seems like he is settling in.”
“So, he is following ZsaZsa,” James exhaled. “Now, the question is who and why? Let’s find out. I’m coming back now.”
“Oh no,” Elliott exclaimed. “Hold up…hold up. Looks like Sabra is going to beat us to him. Get back here.”
James hurried back to the condo. By the time he reached them, the man was out of the vehicle face down on the ground with his hands in a zip tie. Glass was on the ground all around him. Sabra was leaning against the vehicle as if she didn’t have a care in the world.
“What in the hell happened?” James demanded as he jumped out of the car.
“I’m in love,” Elliott announced. “Man,” he chuckled, “She punched the window out with her fist, yanked his ass through the window and had him on the ground before we could get to her. One hand, man. Do you see the size of that dude?”
“Why is he watching ZsaZsa?” James asked eager to know why the man was there.
“We really do not have time to ask questions,” Calvin announced. “The authorities will be here shortly. We cannot be here when they arrive.”
“I need to know why he is following ZsaZsa?” James insisted.
“He refused to speak,” Sabra advised.
“I wouldn’t speak to you either,” Elliott stated. “You manhandled him with one hand.” He expressed again. “Do you put that much energy into everything you do?” He asked.
“We do not have time for this,” Calvin advised. “James, get out of here, now. Elliott, let’s go.”
“We need answers,” James countered.
“I will get them,” Sabra replied. “You must go now.”
James hesitated, but knew they were right. “I want to know everything. Do you understand…everything.”
“Understood. Go!” Sabra insisted.
“Follow her to wherever they go and get me whatever information you can,” James ordered.
“We got you,” Elliott said. “One hand, man…she yanked his ass with one hand.”
James shook his head as he got back into his vehicle. Once upstairs, he and ZsaZsa watched as the police arrived. They spoke to Sabra, then took the man into custody. Sabra followed them, as did Elliott and Calvin.
“We should have some answers soon,” James said to ZsaZsa. “We should advise your brother of this.”
“It has been done,” Nailah spoke up. “You relax and enjoy the rest of your evening.”
“Enjoy the evening?” James raised an eyebrow. “I will not relax until we know who he is and why he was following us.”
An hour later, he received his answer, which was nothing at all. The man was taken into custody, never spoke a word, then was released when a person from the embassy called.
“What in the hell do you mean he was released?” James yelled at Sabra.
“Just as I said,” she repeated calmly. “He never spoke. He made a phone call. Someone from the embassy called the authority on duty and he was released on Diplomatic Immunity.”
“From what country?” James asked as his phone buzzed. He looked at the message. We are tailing him.. .
“The authorities did not release that information.” Sabra replied.
James sent a text back. Diplomatic Immunity. A reply came back. We will find out what we can. He looked up at Sabra. “Please forgive me for losing my temper.”
“You love her.” Sabra smiled. “It is acceptable for you to be upset. We love her too.”
James exhaled, then nodded. “I know you do.”
“It is wonderful to be loved, is it not?” ZsaZsa grinned. “The person is no longer out there. We will have to stay on alert as we were today.” She turned to James. “Can we have sex now?”
James shook his head as he laughed, pulling her into his arms. “No.” He kissed her temple and exhaled.
