EPILOGUE
As the season wears on, the luck I feel on a personal level seems to permeate the Rising Tide as well. Even if I’m not a real hockey player, I still suit up with the team, so it feels like I am. Especially when I catch a glimpse of my girl wearing a jersey with my name on it.
Abby Mavrin.
It was one of her first requests after we got back home.
She obviously didn’t want to keep Niamh Fitzpatrick’s identity, and after everything she learned about her parents, she wasn’t too keen on her maiden name either.
I offered mine, partially as a joke, and she loved it.
Of course it’s not like I was going to wait long to make her an official Mavrin anyway.
I would’ve taken her to the courthouse the second we got back, but after everything she went through, I didn’t want to rush things. It was all I could do to wait. As soon as I felt she was stable enough, I made my move.
I didn’t want to do anything crazy, not that she doesn’t deserve the world. But I wanted it to mean something, so I opted for a simple “Just engaged” magnet.
We’ve been collecting magnets since we got back.
Everywhere we go, we get one. And we go a lot.
Abby never traveled much, and even though I’ve been all over the globe, it hasn’t necessarily been for leisure.
We get away every chance we can, whether it be exploring the city after an away game or jetting somewhere random on our off days.
Many of those trips are to visit with her parents.
My sweet girl endured so much pain in the ten years she was apart from them.
That alone would be enough to warrant major relationship-building, but the truth about her father widened the rift.
I have to refrain from beating the man to a pulp every time I see him, but that’s not my place.
My only job is to make sure Abby is happy, so I smile and do just that.
I mean, I get it…I’ll love our children unconditionally, but nothing will ever compare to their mother.
Then, of course, we enjoy our time at home as well, lounging about in each other’s arms. God, it’s been heaven, honestly.
She didn’t hesitate to accept my proposal and was also just as enthusiastic about making it legal ASAP. We didn’t last a week being engaged before we were signing our marriage certificate.
For Christmas, I surprised her with her eyes tattooed on my right ring finger, since our bands were still being customized. And she surprised me by not replacing her IUD.
Mila and I are closer than ever, especially now that we can bond over being in love.
And scheming about increasingly invasive ways to make sure our soulmates are always safe.
It warms my heart to see the bond she and Abby have developed.
Whatever reservations Abby had about Mila at first are long gone, to the point where I’m not sure she wouldn’t pick my friend over me.
Nah, I know she’d pick me. Just like I’ll always choose my lesnaya over anyone or anything in the world.
I watch from afar, admiring her beauty as she laughs with the other hockey WAGS.
Mila and Ellie are here tonight, along with some of the other women she’s become friends with.
As much as I would like to put her in my pocket and keep her there always, I know how important it is for her to have girlfriends.
She’s blossomed over the past few months, working with Ellie to build a haven for women who need a fresh start after going through hell.
The moment she locks eyes with me, all bets with those girls are off. She runs to me, and I hold my arms out for her, ready for her to pounce. “Misha!” She kisses me just as fiercely as the first time.
“My love! How was the game?” I pull her legs up to wrap around me and walk back to where our friends are gathered.
“It was great! I’ve never been to this city before, you know? So I was thinking…”
“Of course! We’ll have to go find a magnet. Any recs from the girls as to the hot spots?”
Teddy comes up behind Ellie and wraps his arms around her waist. This is one of the first away games she’s come to since having their daughter, Leia, and you can tell.
His game is drastically better when Ellie is here.
His custom wedding band from when they got married finally came in, after he sent it back three times for not being “perfect,” and he can’t stop showing it off.
They had an intimate ceremony before the baby was born, but knowing Ellie, the extravaganza she’s planning will put a royal wedding to shame.
“Actually, there is a place I’ve heard about…I was kinda wanting to take Ellie, but I’ve never been to anything like this before. I’m pretty sure you have, though…”
I raise a brow. “Okay?”
He looks around at the parents and children, then leans over to whisper in my ear. “It’s, um…a sex club.”
I smirk. “Tell me more.”
I am, indeed, rather familiar with sex clubs.
Mila and I used to frequent them. Not to partake in activities together, but the kink community was a shared proclivity of ours for several years.
Our relationship was never anything but platonic.
Even if we weren’t like siblings, we both prefer to be the dominant partner, so we never would have been compatible in the first place.
Mila is still an active Domme to Thatcher. As unfortunate as it is that I know.
I still enjoy taking control in the bedroom, but my desire for BDSM went flying out the window when I met Abby.
What I enjoyed about it prior to her is the exact reason I wouldn’t prefer it now.
It’s too clinical. What we have now is so much better than all my past experiences combined.
Sex prior to Abby was well…just sex. But with her, it’s passionate and raw and otherworldly.
That doesn’t mean we can’t switch it up for the night every now and then.
Of course, with Abby’s past trauma, there are certain things I wouldn’t even dream of asking if she would want to try.
It’s risky taking her to a sex club in the first place.
But she’s so brave, my girl. She always wants to overcome her fears.
Teddy leans in closer. “It’s called Rendezvous. It’s supposedly one of the most renowned clubs in the country. The waitlist is usually booked months, if not years, in advance, but Nikki knows the owners and can get us in VIP. I think he’s going with his girl, and maybe some of the other guys.”
Turning to my lesnaya, I run my fingers through her curls, pushing a strand behind her ear. “My darling. I need to ask you something, and if you don’t want to, just say no, okay?”
“What is it?”
I cup her cheek and lean forward so I don’t have to speak as loudly. “Would you be interested in going to a sex club tonight?”
“Sex club?” Her eyes pop open, and I can’t help but chuckle at how darn adorable she looks.
“It’s an establishment where people have a safe place to explore their kinks.”
“Oh, I’ve heard of them before...from my books. I didn’t know they were real, though. What will this one be like?”
“The offerings change from place to place, and I’ve never been here before, so I’m not sure what it’ll be like. I do know that it’s one of the most highly rated clubs in the country. Of course if we get there and you hate it, we can leave.”
She chews on her lips for a moment, and I’m about to just tell her not to worry about it when she finally speaks up.
“Do you think they’ll have a magnet?”
“I think they’ll have something.” I chuckle.
Smiling, she wraps her arms around my neck and sways us back and forth. “Then let’s do it.”
