Chapter 3 – THE ATTACK
Chapter Three
THE ATTACK
Kassandra had always been a fighter, but as she stood outside the seedy building known to be a cartel hideout, she felt a tremor of fear.
The Attack was imminent, and she was walking straight into the lion's den.
She had received a tip that the missing girl, Lily, might be held there, and she couldn't ignore the chance to save her.
She had defied Phantom's orders to stay put, to let the Bloodhound Brotherhood MC handle the situation. But Kassandra had never been good at sitting on the sidelines, not when a child's life was at stake. She had to act, even if it meant putting herself in danger.
The night air was cool against her skin as she approached the entrance, her heart pounding like a drum in her chest. She had dressed in dark clothing, hoping to blend into the shadows, and her pepper spray was tucked securely in her pocket.
It wasn't much of a weapon, but it was better than nothing.
As she pushed open the door, a wave of stale air hit her. The interior was dimly lit, with a long hallway leading deeper into the building. She moved silently, her senses on high alert. She could hear the faint sound of voices up ahead, the tone harsh and menacing.
Kassandra crept closer, her hand gripping the pepper spray. She peered around the corner and saw a group of cartel members gathered in a room, their attention focused on a figure tied to a chair. Her heart sank when she recognized the girl from the photo she had been given. It was Lily.
Before she could retreat and call for backup, one of the men looked up and their eyes met.
His eyes narrowed, and he barked out a command to his comrades.
Kassandra's instincts kicked in, and she turned to run, but it was too late.
They were already on her, their hands grabbing at her clothes, their laughter echoing through the halls.
She fought back with all her might, her fear fueling her strength. She managed to land a few solid kicks and even used her pepper spray, but there were too many of them. They overpowered her, their fists and boots finding their marks with brutal precision.
Kassandra's vision blurred as the relentless blows rained down upon her.
She could feel the warmth of her own blood trickling down her face, the coppery taste of it in her mouth.
Her body screamed in protest with each new impact, but she refused to give in to the pain.
She had to hold on, to fight through the agony for Lily's sake.
But the men were too strong, their numbers too great. Despite her valiant efforts, Kassandra felt her consciousness beginning to slip away. The last thing she heard before darkness claimed her was the sound of hurried footsteps approaching.
When she came to, Kassandra found herself bound to a chair in a dingy, windowless room. Her head throbbed mercilessly, and her body ached with a deep, persistent pain. She tried to move, to test the strength of her bonds, but it was no use. She was well and truly trapped.
The door to the room creaked open, and a tall, menacing figure stepped inside.
Kassandra recognized him as the leader of the cartel, the man who had ordered his men to attack her.
His eyes were cold and calculating, a stark contrast to the warmth and compassion she was accustomed to in her line of work.
“Ah, the social worker awakens,” he sneered, circling her like a predator sizing up its prey. “I must admit, I didn't expect you to be so troublesome.”
Kassandra glared at him defiantly, refusing to be cowed. “Let Lily go,” she demanded, her voice steady despite her fear. “She’s just a child. She doesn’t deserve any of this.”
The man chuckled, his dark eyes gleaming with amusement. “Deserve? In this world, my dear, ‘deserve’ has nothing to do with it. It’s all about power, and right now, I have it.”
Kassandra’s heart sank at his words, but she forced herself to still be strong. She had to believe that Phantom and the MC were out there somewhere, searching for her and Lily. She just had to hold on a little longer.
