6. Reed #2
“I’ll happily get some content for both of you guys, I mean it’s not like you’re not all going to be in the same place,” I laugh, grabbing my phone and opening Instagram.
“Show me both your feeds so I can see what I’m working with,” I order them, and when they realize I’m serious, they both sit up and type in their profiles.
They are exactly what I expect, messy, uncoordinated, and completely unprofessional, and I roll my eyes as I reach for my laptop.
“And here’s me thinking it couldn’t get worse than his.
” I gesture toward Wilder, as I open up my content planner and start making notes.
Beckett and Knox both lean over my screen, desperately trying to see what I’m typing, as I make a list for both of them.
“What the hell does GRWM mean?” Knox asks, scanning the words as I type and I roll my eyes.
“Get ready with me, it’s a common trend, but I think putting a professional spin on it when you guys get ready for races would really gain some traction,” I reply without looking up, already on a roll, as I type out ideas for each of them, flicking my stare between the laptop and my phone.
“Shit, you're really good at this,” Knox replies, still watching me, and pride swells in my chest.
I love what I do and I’m excited for a new challenge over the next few months.
I don’t care about the money, even though Mr. Miles is paying me very well, and I’m sure it will open doors with new brands.
No, the only thing I care about is the freedom it gives me, it might not be as much as I dream of, but for now it’s enough.
“Damn, Lamont, you've got like 5 million followers,” Beckett cuts in, having clearly hunted down my official profile, and I roll my eyes.
“First rule of social media, don’t believe any of the bullshit you see on there,” I tell him firmly, switching to my personal private account and following them both from there instead of my main.
The two of them both get the notification and instantly request to follow me back, and I accept them without pause.
“There’s the alter ego we know and love,” Knox jokes, scrolling my feed and I snort.
“Just keep it to yourself,” I tell them, smirking as I remember the way I blocked Wilder when he found it and I accidentally accepted him, but he’s not my friend like they are.
“You know your shit is always safe with us,” Beckett confirms, and I nod, not bothering to respond because I know he’s right.
Back at school they always treated me decently, even when they heard certain rumors that went around about me, and I always appreciated that.
Even now when we end up at the same parties together, they never judge me, they just accept me as I am, and I don’t think they will ever know how grateful I am for that fact.
We talk a little more, but then it isn’t long before the crew are running through preflight checks, so I quickly store my things and prepare for take off.
The flight is only around seven hours, which isn’t long, but the time difference is going to take some getting used to.
I’ll probably come round to it just as we set off to another place, but I don’t mind, I’m excited to explore, and I doubt even an asshole like Wilder could ruin it.
Okay maybe I was wrong. Wilder ignores us all for the entire flight, apparently to no one's surprise, but thankfully Beckett and Knox provide more than enough entertainment and conversation. I created both of them a full social media plan for the next month, one that will be easy for them to follow, and I promised to do my best to get them as much content as I can. I know my focus is on Wilder, but it won’t take much for me to add in a little extra for some old friends.
It’s nice to catch up with them and hear more about what they have been doing since we graduated, and they both take a genuine interest in my social media work.
By the time we land in London it’s late, but still I turn my phone on and quickly send a text to Eloise, letting her know I made it here safely.
It doesn’t take long for her to reply, as if she was waiting for me, but her message bounces back with multiple pings of notifications, including from Linked Up, the gay dating app I usually find my hookups on.
It’s not like I can openly find gays as the son of Prescott Lamont III.
Beckett narrows his eyes at me and Knox smirks, while Wilder appears to be asleep beside us.
“Well, well, well, it seems our little Reed here is planning on getting busy while we’re on the road.
” Knox teases, using my middle name after a long flight together, and when I look at him in confusion he nods toward my phone.
“What? You think just because I am used to drowning in pussy that I don’t recognize that sound?
This fucker always has it going off.” He nods toward Wilder, who doesn’t react or respond, and I can’t help but look over at him.
I know the reason why I’m on there, but I can’t imagine someone like Wilder Miles, who is not only openly gay, but also hot as hell, needing something like Linked Up to find his hookups.
When I bring my attention back to the guys, they are both smirking at me now and I shrug. “What’s a better one night stand than one across the ocean?” I don’t add that it will be safer for me to fuck people across the pond than it is back home, since no one will know my identity.
“Well if the app fails you can always take this Wild ride for a spin,” Knox states suggestively, emphasizing the word wild, as if I would somehow miss his meaning.
“No thanks, arrogant assholes aren’t my type.”
The two of them laugh, and I swear I see a slight tug on the corner of Wilder’s mouth, but suddenly the head of the cabin crew announces the doors are open and everybody moves.
It doesn’t take long for us to pass through customs, and before we know it we are exiting the airport and bundling into three cars to head to our hotel.
The first race isn’t for a couple of days, so we at least have a little time to get acclimated.
Once we arrive we check into our rooms, and then Cooper Miles tells us all to order ourselves some room service and to try and get some sleep.
We’ll be in this hotel for the next week, so I unpack a little, order myself a steak, and then take a shower.
After eating I climb into bed, trying my best to get some sleep, but considering it’s still only around 9 p.m. at home, I am nowhere near tired.
