KRIS

I’m going to kill Kaleb.

In a brotherly love way, of course.

He knew I didn’t want to be anywhere near our parents today, tomorrow, or ever at this point.

This entire lunch is a shit show. Aside from Kameron.

She’ll never know how much it meant to me, or how she affected me when she grabbed my hand.

But, I really need this lunch to be over so I can get some more alcohol into my system and pretend like my parents aren’t trading death stares across the table to each other.

I finish my food, wiping my mouth, but not letting go of Kameron’s hand. Glancing across the room, I make eye contact with my brother. But the coward looks away just as fast as our eyes connect.

Dick.

Sitting in silence, I stare at every single person sitting at this table. My mom carries on a conversation with her new man, about what? I couldn’t tell you, I’m just observing the way the two are together. I never expected her to move on, after all the pain she endured from my father when he dipped. The way everything fell on her shoulders, and she just continued to push it all onto me.

And why the fuck did no one tell me she was engaged?

My eyes drift to my dad, and the woman sitting next to Kameron. Dad is talking about Kaleb and their wedding, but his date is more occupied with my date. And I’m not really liking the look she’s giving Kam.

I noticed it earlier, but Kam didn’t really react to the look she gave her when Dad brought up our relationship, and how my brother apparently has a bigger mouth than I thought… so, I didn’t really comment on the odd reaction, but now, it’s definitely noticeable.

I’m not even sure of the chick’s name, but when I let go of Kam’s hand and pull her chair closer to me before letting my palm rest on her knee, that gets the girl’s attention. Her brown eyes bounce to mine before widening and turning her focus to whatever my dad is currently saying.

“What was that about?” Kameron asks, looking confused as she wipes her mouth and drops the napkin to the plate.

“I just have a weird feeling about her; wanted you away from her.” I shrug, leaning back in my seat.

My eyes drift around the room again, this time watching every single person briefly before my brother finally stands and announces it’s time for the rehearsal.

Everyone stands, and the room slowly starts to clear out. My dad’s date stands, and I watch as she carelessly lets her purse, or whatever the thing is she’s carrying, hit Kameron’s drink.

Unfortunately, Kam wasn’t out of her chair yet, and it splashes into her lap. Mostly on her knees and down her legs though.

“Oh, I’m so sorry.” The fakest apology I’ve ever heard, and I’ve given plenty of them in my life. “I’m a klutz.” She giggles.

Kameron stretches her lips into a smile, but I can tell she’s embarrassed now. Her dress around the rim is covered in red wine, which will more than likely stain.

“It’s okay. Accidents happen.” Kameron pushes away from the table to stand before turning to me. “I need to find a restroom.”

I take her hand, leading her in the opposite direction of where everyone is heading. My brother will just have to wait.

“There’s one over here,” I say, pulling her behind me. When we reach the door, I pull it open, allowing her to step inside before I follow.

“Kris,” she gasps when she realizes I’ve followed her inside, “you can’t be in here. People will talk.”

“Let them. I don’t give a fuck.” I shrug. “I wanted to make sure that you’re okay.”

“I’m fine. It was an accident. It’s just a dress. You need to go, your brother needs you.” She places her hand against my chest, trying to push me toward the door, but she can’t get me to budge.

“I’m not leaving you.” I gesture to the sink. “Do whatever it is that you need to do, I’ll wait.” I kiss her cheek, not sure why, but it felt right.

There’s a large couch on the other side of the restroom, so I walk toward it and plop down. Pulling my phone out, I pull up my brother’s text thread before looking up at Kam.

She’s staring at me, her mouth in the cutest little “o”.

“What? Hurry up.” I wave my hand in the air, jokingly. “My brother needs me.” I chuckle, causing her to give me one of her signature pissed off looks that look so sexy on her.

I smirk when she stomps over to the sink and grabs one of the towels and starts wetting it before looking back down at my phone to text my brother.

Me

Hey, something happened with Kam. I’ll be over there shortly. Don’t wait on me if you don’t need to.

Kaleb

I was wondering where you went. Dad’s new girl said Kam was clumsy and probably wouldn’t make it over here but that you were on the way.

Me

WTF. That chicks crazy, bro. She knocked a glass of wine into Kam’s lap.

Kaleb

She’s def the most interesting one dads been with so far.

Me

I wouldn’t know. I avoid them all. You should try it.

Kaleb

where are y’all at?

Me

The bathroom just past where we were sitting.

He doesn’t respond, so I drop my phone onto the couch beside me and watch as Kam slowly unhooks her shoes, and returns to her short height. She pulls her dress up, revealing her tan thigh nearly up to her hip before taking the wet towel and wiping off the sticky substance.

I suck my lip in, the thoughts swarming my head right now are about how she’s looked propped up on that granite counter with her legs spread wide open. As if she can hear my thoughts, she pauses and looks over at me. My elbow is propped on the arm rest, and I drag my thumb over my bottom lip slowly as I watch her reaction.

She sucks a breath in, and I move to stand when the door pushes open and my brother and Ruby walk inside.

“Here,” Ruby crosses the room, bringing a dress to Kam, “you can wear this, it should fit. I’m sorry this happened to you.”

“Ruby, what are you both doing over here? It’s your rehearsal, go!” Kameron takes the dress from her.

“Oh, please. You think they’re going to start without us. Besides, I didn’t like the way Lauren was acting. I knew it was intentional by the way she described the incident,” Ruby tells her.

“Lauren is her name?” my brother asks.

“Yes, she told you that when her skanky little fingers rubbed down your arm.” Ruby side-eyes my brother before looking back at Kameron. “Get changed, and then we’ll get the party started tonight.” She winks at Kam, smiles at me, then pulls my brother along behind her back out the door.

I sit on the couch, elbows resting on my knees as I try to decipher what just happened. Ruby has always been that type of person, it’s why I love her for my brother so much, they just fit well together, and she’s a good human.

Kameron’s shoulders are a little more relaxed now. I know she would have gone out in her dress like nothing happened, she would have chalked up the stain on her dress to a mishap from Lauren, and moved on. That’s the type of person she is.

She holds the cream colored dress against her body and looks in the mirror. I stand, moving in behind her so I can see. We’re not touching, just staring at one another in the mirror but the moment is intimate.

“You’re beautiful in anything you wear,” I tell her, without saying anything else, my fingers move to the back of her dress and slowly slide the zipper down, revealing her bare back.

No bra.

Shit, this was a bad idea. Bad, bad, bad.

I’m frozen in place. I didn’t mean to make this sexual, but shit… like I said, bad idea.

“What are you doing?” she asks.

I’m expecting the feisty Kameron to be staring at me when I look at her, but instead it’s the amused version that likes the little games we play.

“I, umm,” I stumble over my words, looking like an idiot right now.

“Why’d you stop?” Her eyes flash with heat, and I’m suddenly as hard as a rock.

I groan, making her giggle before I slowly pull the straps from her shoulders, bringing them down her arms until the dress gives way at her hips and falls to the floor. She’s standing in front of me in nothing but her lace thong, and she’s fucking beautiful.

“Damn,” I whisper, leaning forward and pressing my lips to her shoulder. “You’re stunning.”

Her smile grows wider, and I want to beat on my chest like a caveman because I put the smile there.

She pulls the dress Ruby brought in off the hanger. I watch her every move as she unzips the back of it and slowly steps into it. She pulls her hair to the side, shimmying her way into it before gesturing for me to zip her back up.

“I don’t want to.” And I don’t.

I prefer the version I just saw standing in front of me over the fully covered one.

“Get your mind out of the gutter, Kris. We have a rehearsal to get to, and you’re kind of a big deal,” she teases.

“Babe, I don’t give a fuck about the wedding anymore after seeing you in front of me like this,” I tell her. “So, tonight, when we get back to the cabin, I better get another glimpse.”

“And if you don’t?” She spins around to face me after I zip her up.

“I’ll die from blue balls.” I stare at her, hoping she sees how serious I am.

Blue balls isn’t serious, but damn I don’t want to experience it.

“We’ll see.” She smirks, turning again before bending to grab her shoes.

Her damn ass rubs right against me, and I know she’s playing with me now. I just don’t know what changed with her.

One minute she’s waking up on top of me half naked and then doesn’t speak to me all morning, then she purposely lets me undress her in the mirror, in the same state of nudity and is teasing me after.

We’ll have a long talk about it for sure. I may not do relationships, but there’s no reason we can’t have fun while we’re here together.

The sex between us always was insane.
