KRIS

I’m fucking amped up now.

The words “Don’t forget about our plans,” have been the only things on my mind in the last hour.

Ruby and Kaleb arranged for another party bus to come pick everyone up from the venue who wanted to go celebrate another night with them. Although, we’re only staying out a few hours since the wedding is tomorrow and we don’t need the entire wedding party to be completely sloshed for the big day.

We’re seated at the back of the bus, so I have a view of everyone, including Lauren and my dad. Kameron sits next to me, my arm around the back of her seat, while she talks animatedly with Ruby about something. Nothing is registering because I’m too busy staring at Davidson who hasn’t taken his eyes off Kameron since we climbed in.

It’s about as similar as the way Lauren won’t stop looking at me and my brother.

I shiver thinking about it, catching Kameron’s attention.

“You okay?” Her voice filled with amusement.

I smile down at her, before leaning in and pressing a kiss to her cheek.

“I’m perfect.” It’s cheesy, but at this moment I really am.

I’m forcing myself not to think about relationships as much as I can, that fear always ramps up at the back of my head. If I was ever going to settle down with someone, I think it would be Kameron. I just don’t know that I’ll ever truly be to that point, and I don’t want to hurt Kameron when shit hits the fan either.

Because it will.

I glance over at my brother and Ruby. Kaleb is talking to someone sitting next to him, but his hand is in Ruby’s lap and their fingers are linked together. I stare at the large diamond on her finger, and I can’t help but wonder what he’s thinking.

How can he be so confident in what they’re doing? Knowing it’ll all blow up in a few years.

I just hope it happens before they have kids, that way my niece or nephew don’t have to go through the same shit I went through.

Kameron turns toward me, leaning into me slightly.

“Okay, spill. You’re all tense now.”

“Nothing, baby.” I look over at Davidson again, his eyes are still glued to her. “I just don’t like the way Davidson is staring at you.” It’s not a complete lie, it’s just not what was making me tense.

“Well, just ignore him. I’m with you all night.” She leans into me, and on instinct my arm falls from the back of the seat and wraps around her, pulling her closer to me.

“We should really talk about what we’re doing here, Kamelo.”

Her eyes flash at the use of her nickname, and her finger jabs into my ribs.

“Okay, okay. I’m sorry.” That makes her laugh, and the sound goes straight to my dick.

She looks into my eyes, and the mood changes. We’re no longer laughing, and the temp I swear has shot up about twenty degrees.

“I think that for the weekend, we just do what feels good. It’s like Vegas. What happens on the mountain, stays on the mountain.” Her smile spreads across her face, so proud of coming up with that one.

I kiss her nose, smiling at her. The gesture takes her off guard. When we were together, I didn’t do the sappy shit, at least not in public. We were young, I was horny, she was horny. We had sex, lots and lots of amazing sex. We went to parties, she came to my games, but we’ve never really had a lot of conversations or moments like this.

“For the weekend. Let me clarify, you’re all mine until we pull into your driveway tomorrow?”

“Yes,” she whispers, nodding her head at the same time.

The bus pulls to a stop, but I can’t seem to pull my eyes away from her. I’m suddenly less thrilled about spending the night celebrating my brother and his fiancee, and more interested in seeing what I can get away with with Kameron in our cabin tonight.

“You two ready?” Ruby asks, smiling from ear to ear as she looks down at us.

“Sure am.” Kameron stands, winking at me before grabbing Ruby’s arm and following her off the bus.

“Dude, you’re playing with fire,” my brother says, half warning but half teasing at the same time.

“And I do love fire.” I smirk, slapping a hand to his back. “You ready for tomorrow?” I ask, as we step off the bus.

He sighs, a dopey smile appears and he looks at me. “Man, I’m so damn ready to have her as my wife.”

The happiness radiates off of him, and I can’t help but worry that it’s all going to go down in flames. Just like Mom and Dad.

But, I clap him on the shoulder and smile, hiding any fears I have for my little brother because I don’t want to ruin his weekend.

We step inside, it’s a different bar than the one we were at last night. This one is more downtown. There are string lights hanging from the ceiling that drape all the way to the back of the bar to what looks like a patio. The main bar is off to my left, a dance floor stretches down the center all the way to the patio, and there are high top tables along the right side.

The girls didn’t even stop to find a table, they went straight for the dance floor and are dancing to that new song by Wallen and Post.

I grab a seat next to Kaleb, and keep my eyes on Kameron and Ruby. The bar is packed, and I don’t fucking like it one bit.

It’s obvious guys are staring at them, and they can look, even if I wish I could pull their eyes from their head for looking at what’s mine.

Mine for the weekend, that is.

We’ve not even been here for five minutes when Kameron is approached by some douche wearing full cowboy gear. It’s the type that you know is just dressing like this because he’s in Tennessee, but someone should really explain that we’re in Gatlinburg, and not on Broadway in Nashville.

A beer appears in front of me, and I take it without looking at who brought it to me and press the bottle to my lips as I watch this asshole talk to Kameron. She glances to the side, her eyes connecting with mine before she points in my direction. The douchebag follows where she is pointing before nodding his head, and disappearing into the crowd around them.

Kameron looks at me again, winking before turning her attention back to Ruby.

“You looked like you needed a beer.”

I freeze at the voice.

Looking down at the beer in my hand, it almost tastes sour now, knowing it came from my father. My brother reaches over, clinking his glass bottle to mine, jarring me from the thought.

“Thanks,” I mumble, taking another sip and letting my eyes roam over Kameron’s body.

The dress Ruby let her borrow has a slit up the side, exposing a bit of her thigh. I love it and hate it at the same time.

“I’m glad you two are here,” our father says.

“Where else would we be, Dad?” I ask, as sarcastic as I possibly can.

I glance at him but don’t see Lauren anywhere in sight, which can’t be good.

“I’ve been meaning to talk to you both,” he says, ignoring my words.

I grunt, but my brother shoots me a glare, reminding me that this is his weekend and I’m supposed to behave. However, he was supposed to keep our parents away from me, so really I guess we’re both failing.

“What do you think of Lauren?” he asks, looking at Kaleb before slowly looking at me.

“I haven’t spent a lot of time with her to really say, Dad,” my brother tells him.

“I’m thinking of asking her to marry me.” He sighs.

I almost laugh. “Why would you do that?” I tilt my head to the side, and my brother slowly sits his drink down.

“What do you mean?” My father frowns at my question.

He’s got to be playing, right? I mean, marriage doesn’t work. He knows this, we all fucking know this.

“Well,” I lean back in my seat. “You failed miserably the first time, why would you want to go through with it again?” I ask, staring at him.

In my peripheral, I see Kam freeze on the dance floor and I know it’ll be any moment before she’s heading over here to see what is wrong.

“Now, wait. That’s not fair, Kris. Your mother and I–”

“Don’t,” I grit through my teeth. “Don’t bring her up. You don’t get to.” I look to my brother, and lean forward to my dad to not cause a scene. I really don’t want to ruin his night, but I can’t let our father pretend like all of this is okay either. “You sucked so badly as a husband when you were married the first time, why would you go through with it again?” I ask.

He just stares at me.

So I continue, “Marriage with Mom was so awful that you abandoned everything you had and ran. So tell me, Dad. Why would you do it again? Why would you put Lauren through that?” I laugh. “And why would you want to marry someone that’s more interested in your sons than you?”

I let that bomb drop between us all, and then glance at Kameron. Her lips are pulled between her teeth as she looks at me, worry in her eyes. I nod, trying to let her know I’m okay.

“What do you mean?” he asks. “That she’s more interested in my boys than me?”

“Dad,” my brother starts. “You have to see it. The way she looks at us, the way she’s so comfortable placing her hand on either of us, and leaving it there until we initiate the separation,” Kaleb tells him.

I study my dad, watching him work through it all in his head. He nods, as if he understands just as Lauren steps up.

“Oh, there you are, honey.” She presses a kiss to his cheek. “What are you boys up to?” She turns, and her ass rubs up against the side of my thigh. She shouldn’t even be this close to me.

Kaleb’s eyes drop to where she’s touching me just as I scoot my chair away, my dad notices, I know he does. There’s a sudden hardness in his jaw, but Lauren is either good at pretending she doesn’t see it or she’s that delusional.

I glance back up to find Kameron not where she was. Kaleb tips his head toward the bar, where the entire bridal party is doing a flight of shots.

“That’s their second already.” He chuckles, I shake my head.

The beginning tune of Ain’t No Love In Oklahoma begins and all the girls take, yet another shot before rushing to the dance floor. I laugh, watching them all wrap their arms around each other and attempt to dance while singing the words. Kameron stumbles, I straighten a little, but Ruby catches her and both break out into a fit of laughter, causing me to shake my head.

She’s going to be the death of me. I just know it.

My dad leaves the table to order another round of drinks. The girls all saunter back to the bar for what I’m sure will be their fourth and fifth shot of the night. I’m not exactly thrilled to be spending time with my dad, but I’ll take the free beers. It’s the least he could do, really.

“Are you boys having fun?”

I roll my eyes, finishing off my beer, ignoring her.

“It’s been a good time,” Kaleb answers her. He’s always been the nicer of the two of us.

“It has,” she nearly purrs, looking over at me.

My dad has his back to us, so he’s missing the entire thing.

The way she’s staring at me, I should be naked at this point because I’m certain she’s undressed every inch with her eyes.

She steps closer, and to avoid touching her, my legs shift but that gives her access to step right between them.

Fuck. I look over her shoulder, and thankfully Kameron has her back to me and is downing another shot. She’ll fucking feel that tomorrow, more than likely.

“I’m here with someone else, Lauren. I’m not interested.” I level her with a look.

“Okay?” She giggles. “I’m not even doing anything.”

She’s delusional. Truly. Out of her mind.

I look to the side at my brother, he’s pushing his chair back to stand. I’m caged in. If I move, I touch her, and that’s the last thing I want.

“Is there a reason you’re practically climbing in my date’s lap, Lauren?” Kameron says from beside us, and I jump. I didn’t even see her approach.

She’s definitely tipsy, the liquid courage is pouring off of her.

“I’ve had just about enough of your shit today, and I’d appreciate it if you got out of my spot.”

Lauren still doesn’t move, she doesn’t bother looking to see if my dad is watching since Kameron basically just got most of the bar within earshots attention.

When Lauren smirks, and attempts to take an inch step closer to me, something in Kam snaps and she wedges her tiny five foot frame between us and shoves Lauren so hard away from us that she nearly trips over her heels.

Kaleb, being the gentleman he is, steadies her with an arm before Ruby slides up next to him.

“You little bitch,” I tense against Kam’s back, but Kameron shocks me when she steps back into Lauren’s face.

“I may be a little bitch, but at least I’m not the whore trying to seduce both of my man’s sons.” Her hand goes to her hip, drawing my attention to her ass in this dress again.

Damn. I’m ready to get the fuck out of here.

And by the looks of the way this altercation is going, it may be sooner rather than later.

“You’re fucking nuts.”

My dad finally steps up by Lauren, looking between the two women. “What’s going on?” he asks.

“Your son,” Lauren transforms into someone else completely, “he tried to touch me, he’s been making moves at me all day, honey.” Her eyes begin to water, and my jaw drops.

She’s really trying to sell this. Wow.

“Oh, shut up,” Kameron says, stepping closer. “If you put one more fucking finger on him, I’ll beat your ass. I don’t care if it’s in the middle of the ceremony. I. Will. Beat. Your. Ass. Keep your hands to yourself, you little tramp.” I think she’s about to turn to face me but instead she looks at my dad. “And do fucking better.” She points at him. “Stop letting your women throw themselves at your sons, and maybe get to know them more.”

This time she turns, stepping between my legs and planting her lips against mine.

“This is our cue to leave, hotshot. I think I’ve overstayed our welcome.” She smiles against me, before pulling away and looking at Ruby. “I’m sorry we’ve ruined your night. We’ll see you tomorrow.”

I stand, linking my fingers with hers as we pass a very heated argument taking place between my dad and Lauren.

But I don’t give a shit about any of that right now. All I can think about is how fucking turned on I am from seeing that show.

I’m more than ready to be at the cabin.

“Shit.” I hiss.

“What?”

“I have to go get the truck.” I stare down at her.

Do we really need a truck?
