Chapter 33 #2
“That’s funny, because I just married the woman of my dreams. I’ve loved her since I was twelve, and there’s not one day that’s gone by since I met her that I haven’t wanted her. Do you want to know why?”
“Why?”
“Because she’s the sexiest woman alive. She’s gorgeous, smart, forgiving, compassionate, and the list goes on and on. ”
I stop and peer up at him with my heart bursting with love. I place my palm on his cheek.
“Jamison Stone, you make me so happy. I love you so much, and I just wanted you to know that.” I seal it with a kiss.
He gazes down at me as if he’s intoxicated. “I promise to always do the best I can for you, so I think I want to give you your wedding present now.”
“Right now?”
“Yes. But it’s in the suite upstairs, so we need to go up there.”
I shake my head. “Nice try, but Melanie will kill you if we disappear for the night.”
“No. We won’t. I promise we’ll meet back up with them. I just want you to have this, and there’s no better time than now.”
“Okay, but you get to be the one to tell them what you’re up to. I’m not about to take on that kind of argument.”
“Yeah, right. Stay right here, and I’ll be back.” He jogs to Aiden and Mel.
They exchange a few words, and then he runs back to me.
“We have ten minutes before Melanie calls security on us, saying we’re in a domestic dispute. I don’t think she’s fucking around. I think she’ll really do it if we aren’t back by then.”
I snort out a laugh. “If she threatened you with that, she’s serious.”
He grabs my hand and leads me away. We pass Hunter and his date as we scurry by. I take one last peek his way. They’ve moved from the table to a sofa.
He’s casually lounging in the corner with one arm draped over the back and one resting on the arm. She’s nestled into him, listening to him whisper something in her ear. Something about it tells me he’s going to be just fine without me.
Jami smiles down at me. “It looks like he’s back to his old ways. ”
“Yeah. I guess old habits die hard.”
Jami smirks, then his expression grows serious. “We need to hurry. Can you go any faster, or are your shoes bothering you?”
“I’m good.”
We pick up our pace and make it back to our suite with seven minutes to spare. Running up here caused a painful blister to form, though.
He searches for something in his duffel bag while I make a quick decision to change into a pair of Chucks. They don’t go with my dress, but at least I’ll be comfortable.
I sit at the desk and change my shoes. I finish right as Jami finds what he’s looking for.
“Here it is.” He brings a manila envelope over to me.
I take it from him. “What could this possibly be?”
“Open it and you’ll see.” He crosses his arms over his chest and shifts his weight from side to side.
I take out the document and read it. My thoughts swim in confusion. He can’t be serious about this. I scan through it one more time.
“Jami, is this what I think it is?”
“If you think it’s a job offer, it is.”
“You want me to be Jamison Stone Technologies’ marketing director?”
“Yes. We’ve worked together before and did well, so we know we’re compatible in a work environment. My business is blowing up, and if I get the right teams in place early on, the sky’s the limit.”
I place it down and stand before him. “Do you need a marketing director?”
“Danny says I do. He’s the one who brought it to my attention.”
“How did that come up?”
“We were talking, and I asked him if he knew of anyone he could connect you with. He’s lived in Miami all his life, so I figured he was bound to know someone. He asked me if I had thought about bringing you onto our team. He’s the COO, so he knows what he’s talking about.”
My heart blows up, and my stomach bubbles with excitement. “Are you sure about this?”
“Without a doubt. I know you’re qualified. And I promise to give you a maternity package that rivals all others.” He winces as if he said something wrong. “That’s if…”
I wrinkle up my nose and nod. “Yeah, let's remember we’re taking that one day at a time.”
“I know. I’m just excited about this and a little nervous. You might think I’m doing this for the wrong reasons, and I can assure you I think you’re going to fit in great with the team. So, what do you say?”
I take a moment to feel into my heart.
Is this something I want? Yes.
Is this something I can excel at? Yes.
What if it doesn’t work out? I can always find something else.
How will this affect my relationship with Jami? We’ve worked together before, and I enjoyed it. Maybe a little too much.
“Yes, I’ll take the job. I need to do a lot of research and get to understand your business, but I’m up for the challenge. Besides, I love working with you.”
He lifts me off my feet and twirls us around in a circle. “Everything is falling into place, sweetness.”
“It is. I have a feeling living a life with you will exceed my wildest expectations.”
He places me down and stares into my eyes. “Thank you for making me the happiest man alive.”
“Thank you for making all my dreams come true.”
Our lips crash together as we appreciate all we have. We’re married and are going to try for a baby. I have my best friend living in the same beautiful city as me.
My brother and I are healing our relationship, and so are he and Jami. And now I have a job. My life is complete .
He pulls away, breathless. “Come on. Let’s go celebrate with the people we love the most because if I don’t get out of here now, we’re never leaving this room.”
“Agreed. Let’s go celebrate, stud.”
That earns me a swat on the ass. I yelp and jump away.
Jami's heated gaze lands on me. “Temptress, you’re going to learn a lesson if you keep calling me that.”
“Promise?”
He shakes his head and smirks. “All in due time, my wicked little temptress. All in due time.”
With that, we leave hand in hand and start our lives as husband and wife.
