Chapter 24 #2
“Okay, so usually when we are confirming amounts and percentages, we only require receipts that have the amounts and names of who paid,” she said.
“Yes, that’s correct. Were you able to get his bank statements as well?”
In normal cases, all we’d need were the receipts and proof he was the person paying them if his name or card information wasn’t listed.
Because he was now also trying to sue her for the money he’d spent on her bills and business, we needed more.
I hadn’t told her that yet because Venus was already upset over the other shit he did.
If she knew there was a chance he was trying to make her pay him back for the down payment on her building and quarterly pay he gave for her employees, not only did I not know how she’d respond to him, but there was no doubt in my mind that would make it harder for her to trust me to take care of her.
That was why I was trying to handle this without her having to find out.
“I did, and that’s what I wanted to share with you. Because we got the bank statements this time, I was able to find the proof of his expenses, but there’s something else I wanted you to see.”
She scattered a few of the bank statements, and I noticed some things were highlighted in pink, green, and blue.
“What’s your highlighting system?” I asked as I picked up one of the pieces of paper.
“Pink is what he sent Venus or paid for her. Green are the payments he made to Genuwine Lathan. Blue are payments made to Adam Porter.”
“Adam Porter,” I muttered, recalling why that name was familiar to me. “If I’m not mistaken, that’s his best friend.” I remembered Venus mentioning him being the reason Trevor wanted a prenup, which was how they ended up at my firm.
She snickered. “Well, they may be best friends, but I think they are lovers too.”
I damn near choked on my spit at the sound of that. “What? How on Earth did you come to that conclusion?”
Hollie was damn near bursting with excitement as she sat next to me and pulled the rolling chair closer.
“Okay! So first, I don’t think Trevor realized his attorney would be getting this information from his accountant so quickly.
He’s out of town but his attorney expressed having permission to get whatever we needed to expedite the suit.
If Trevor did give permission, he must have forgotten this information was on here and that someone might recognize the name.
Either way, Genuwine Lathan is a very well-known male escort.
He’s not transgender, but he does dress up like a woman when his clients request it. ”
“Wait.” Laughing from the pit of my belly, I lifted my hands. “Are you saying there are multiple payments from Trevor to a male escort?”
“Yes. Now because he’s suing for the entire length of their relationship, we will have access to all of his bank statements. However, his attorney only sent the last six months for now.”
Massaging my temples as I laughed, I stared at the paper and shook my head.
“So he’s gay?”
“I’d say so. Very much on the down low. I looked at Genuwine’s social media, and while he doesn’t post his clients, he posts where they take him.
I tracked the locations and days based on when Trevor made the initial payment to Genuwine, and every place that he posted being at with a client, Trevor paid for. ”
“How does Adam play into this?”
“I wouldn’t have thought it was suspicious, but I had Gino make a file on Adam because I’ve never known a grown ass man to send his best male friend ten thousand dollars a month.
” She flipped through several pages. “If you’ll notice, every time the payment is sent to Adam, it’s around the same time Trevor pays for a weekend trip at the same bed and breakfast as well.
I had Gino go, and the lady at the front desk recognized Trevor and Adam but not Venus. Which leads me to believe…”
“They’ve been going together because he’s fucking his best friend.”
“Now I could be way off base with this but—”
“Nah, you’re actually a fucking genius. If I wasn’t almost a married man, I’d kiss you. Instead, I’ll just give you a raise.”
“That’s actually perfect for me,” she said with a laugh.
“This is amazing, Hollie. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome, Mr. Walker. Glad I could help.”
I thanked her again before gathering the statements and receipts that she’d made me a copy of.
As I left the office, I felt like I damn near floated down the hall.
I don’t know if I was more amused by the fact that he was on the down low or that his secret coming out was his fault.
All he had to do was let my sunshine go peacefully but nah, he wanted to play.
Now, I had to let my little rottweiler of a paralegal loose on him, and Hollie had the investigative skills of the finest detectives.
Honestly, I felt like she was in the wrong profession, but for whatever reason she chose this sector of law and order, and I was grateful for it.
I didn’t know if I wanted to tell my brothers or Venus first or go straight to Trevor’s attorney’s office. Somebody had to hear this news, or I was going to explode like a fucking volcano.
