Beep… beep… beep

The constant monotone sound of the heart rate monitor beside me has become white noise as I stare out the window at the vibrant green trees blowing in the wind; the sky a bright light blue, and birds chasing each other as they dart past the window. I want to be one of those birds, or the leaves.

Free.

Beep… beep… beep

My eyes feel heavy as I let sleep take me. Take me to that place where I am free. Where I can imagine none of this is happening.

I’m running, the wind whipping at my hair as I laugh, my ball at my feet, Beck chasing me, Jade hot on his heels, giggling, but neither of them can reach me.

I’m running.

I’m living.

I’m free.
