Chapter 6

Marcus

The headlines have been nothing but high praise for Lily, and they’ve all been true.

She really is a breath of fresh air, but the fans aren’t the only ones who can’t get enough of her.

I’m always amazed by what comes out of her mouth.

On screen, she literally blows everyone out of the water with her insane knowledge of the game, and her ability to get the most awkward managers and players to open up during interviews is outstanding.

But off screen, when she lets that professional mask fall, giving me all the snarky comebacks, she really shines.

And like an addict, I keep winding her up.

Wanting to tease her more and more just to garner a reaction.

It’s been a few weeks since she mentioned wrapping her perfect, pouty lips around my cock, and I haven’t been able to get the image out of my head.

But she also hasn’t mentioned the size of my cock since either.

Is she scared that I’ll follow through with my threat?

Am I scared? They do say hate sex is the best kind of sex.

Maybe we should test the theory out. It’s been over a month since I’ve had a release from anyone other than myself, and I think I need to sort that shit out.

Diaz flies down the left side, moving the ball with precision and speed.

His head flies up as Dale moves in from his right, sliding in to intercept, but Diaz expertly turns, narrowly missing the midfielder's advances. It’s like he’s dancing with the opposition; no one can get near him, as not only does he avoid Dale, but Perez and McNee.

Oh, this is beautiful, Geoff.

Diaz crosses the ball into Harris without even lifting his head. These two are so in sync. Lane thinks he can take out Harris, but Harris passes the ball straight back to Diaz on the edge of the box.

Goal!

Oh, Geoff, what a touch. That link up between Harris and Diaz was incredible.

What a goal that was. Spencer had no chance with that strike.

Beautiful. The home crowd is going wild.

What a signing Diaz and Harris were. People criticized Kiefer when he traded Pierce for these two basically unknown players, but they’re eating their words now.

My first game with City, I scored another goal. Thanks to Harris, we cemented our partnership in that game and our friendship. We were an unstoppable duo.

Standing on the penalty spot of my old club, my hands in my pant pockets, I stare into the home stands and a rush of emotions fills me.

“Heads,” someone shouts from behind me, and I turn to see a ball come flying through the air.

Controlling the pass on my chest, I bring it down to settle at my feet.

“Still got it, man.” Kai jogs up the pitch in his kit, the captain’s arm band proudly across his right bicep.

A pang of jealousy hits me. I was the captain of this team for three years before my accident, leading us to win the league every year.

I know I should be happy for my best friend, and believe me, I am, but I can’t stop the pain I feel.

I brush it off, not wanting him to pick up on my melancholy.

“Never lost it. Still better than you, even with a busted leg.” We clasp hands as we pull each other into a one armed hug.

“Ain’t that the truth.” And that’s why I love this man. He’s so damn humble. “You good?” he questions, like he does every time I return here. His brow knits as his normally playful grin changes to concern.

“I’m good, man.” I let out a drawn-out breath before giving him a slight nod.

He’s still assessing me, but he knows me well enough to change the subject. “You pitch side today or lording it up in the executive box?”

“Box.” Absentmindedly, I flick the ball at my feet. “You’ve got Chambers today.”

“Shit, really?” He starts messing with his hair.

“Yes? What are you doing?” Pausing my tricks, the ball resting under my foot, I frown at his movements.

“Man, she’s hot. I need to make sure I look my best.”

Erm, okay, what?

“Are you kidding me?”

“You don’t think she’s hot?” he questions, a slight tease in his tone.

“Well, yes, no, pfff, I don’t think she’s hot.”

“Piss off, Diaz. I saw the way you drooled when we came to watch the women’s league. Don’t give me that. You made a move yet?” He nudges my shoulder with his.

“What the fuck are you on about? I don’t drool over any woman. They drool over me.”

“Still as cocky as ever, I see.”

“I mean.” I gesture to my perfectly tailored custom suit and then my face. “Have you seen me?”

“You’re one handsome mother fucker.”

“Thank you.”

“But you definitely drooled over that woman.” He snickers next to me.

“And I get it, I did too. She pulled her shirt up in that game against Forest. You remember to wipe sweat off her face?” He groans, and I try my best to keep my face neutral, but I do remember.

I remember the definition of her abs and her flat stomach glistening with sweat.

It was seconds at most, but Lily Chambers' body was incredible. I stare unblinking at him. “Okay, deny it all you want, but you looked. It wouldn’t surprise me if you didn’t rewatch the highlight reels.

” I may have done, but I’m not telling him that. Why give him more ammo?

“Diaz.” A soft, feminine voice knocks me out of my daydream.

Fuck, here she comes.

Harris side eyes me with a smirk pulling at his lips as he fucks about with his hair again.

My hands mimic his as I go to push my waves off my face as she approaches.

In a crisp white blouse, wide legged black trousers, and a gold belt which makes her waist look impossibly small, she looks incredible.

“Kai Harris.” Harris reaches out to shake Lily’s hand, a dazzling smile on his face. I roll my eyes but don’t miss the genuine smile Lily gives my best friend. It pisses me off. She only smirks at me.

“Lily Chambers. Nice to meet you. I’ll catch up with you later for some interviews.

” She releases his hand before turning to me.

“Diaz, Damen wants you in the box. Apparently, they’ve a whole team of make-up artists in there to try and make this look camera-ready.

” She points her manicured nail at my face, circling it.

“You look like you’ve just rolled out of bed.

” I grab her finger, instantly wishing I didn’t when a jolt goes through me, but I choose to ignore it.

“I’m always camera-ready, Chambers.” I’ve pulled her closer to me so I’m inches from her face, and her pupils dilate slightly as her breath hitches. “You thinking about what I look like in the morning?”

“In your dreams,” she hisses, shaking her head and pulling away. “Just get up to the box.” She sighs as she turns towards Harris. Shit, I forgot he was still here. “I’ll catch up with you in a few when the crew is ready.”

“Sure. Look forward to it.” He smiles in her direction.

“Great.” She nods before she walks away.

Flipping the ball at my feet to do a few tricks, trying to distract myself and hopefully Kai from that little encounter. “Oh, you two are definitely going to fuck.” Of course he isn’t going to leave this. “And damn, I want to watch because the tension between you two had my balls tingling.”

“Shut up. Don’t be a prick.”

“Oh, this is going to be fun.” He swipes the ball from me. “Hey, Chambers?” he shouts across the pitch.

What the fuck is he doing?

“Fancy joining me for a drink after the game?”

A slight growl rumbles in the back of my throat as my hands curl into fists at my sides, my eyes burning a hole in the side of Kai’s head.

“Yeah, alright.” She smiles brightly at him.

What the fuck?

“Paddy’s?”

“I’ll be there.”

“Great.”

I clench my teeth as Kai smirks at me, my jaw physically aching from attempting to hold my tongue. And for the first time ever, I want to punch my best friend.

“Get this in the top corner, and I’ll buy you dinner too.” He crosses the ball towards Lily, and I watch in awe as she controls it down her body before she releases a strike towards the open net, hitting the top corner.

“I’m not a cheap date, Harris.” She gives him a little wave, and then she’s gone down the tunnel, the sound of her heels echoing through the empty stadium. Her heels? Fuck, she did that in heels.

“Okay, that was hot. I think I’ve unlocked a new kink.” Kai stares open mouthed at the goal.

I’m momentarily stunned, but once I’ve regained a hold of my senses, I round on Kai. “What the fuck are you doing, inviting her out?”

“What? I’m single, she’s single. I’m hot, she’s shit hot.

” He shrugs. “I mean, if you like her, then I’ll back off.

” I know he’s goading me, and it isn’t lost on me that normally I don’t give a shit who he goes out with.

But my chest tightens, feeling heavy at the thought of him going out with Lily.

“I don’t like her, not like that anyway.” The lie rolls so easily off my tongue, but I don’t miss Kai’s eye roll; he clearly isn’t believing any of my bullshit. “Plus, as you can see, she clearly hates me.”

“Oh yeah, that woman hates your guts. Why is that?”

“Honestly, no clue.”

“Well, that’s where I come in, my friend.” Hooking his arm around my shoulder, he brings me in for a side hug.

“How do you figure that out?”

“I’m going to befriend our dear Miss Chambers and find out. Then you can have the mind blowing sex that you both deserve and maybe a bit of love sprinkled on top.”

“Love? You’re kidding me?” Pushing away from him, I chuckle.

“I notice you aren’t saying no to mind blowing sex.”

“Who would say no to that?” Sex with Lily has to be fire, all that passion and sass. My dick definitely agrees with me, but I push that thought away. A boner on the pitch next to my best friend isn’t the kind of reaction I need.

“True. God, I’m jealous of the hate sex you are going to have before you get the ‘I can’t get enough of you, you’re my person’ kind of sex.”

“Fuck off.” I bark out a laugh because he’s crazy if he thinks that is going to happen.

“We will see, my friend.”
