Chapter 2

Chassie

“Honey, I’m home!” I call out as I shut the door, kicking off my shoes. I was excited to see Payton’s car parked in the lot. She’s been spending so much time with Cage lately that I rarely get to see her anymore. It almost feels like I live in this apartment alone.

“Hi, baby. Long day at work?”

I stall out as I enter the kitchen and see a man sitting at my kitchen table. Not just any man. HIM. The one who asked me if I wanted to be a club whore.

“What are you doing here?”

And where is my roommate? She failed to mention that we were going to be having company tonight. I’m a sweaty mess, and I smell like wet dog from taking care of all the animals today. She could’ve at least given me a heads-up.

“Cage had to take off for a few days, so I’m keeping watch. Making sure you two are safe and sound while he’s away.”

Safe from what? The boogeyman? Cage is certainly a protective one, isn’t he? If he’s not with Payton, one of the other Knights is with her. So far, all the guys I’ve met are much better mannered than the one taking up all the air in my kitchen.

“They couldn’t send someone else?” I ask, grabbing a beer from the fridge. He’s drinking one, so I might as well join him.

“Why? Do you have a problem with me?” His amber eyes narrow in. He’s still undeniably good looking even if he is irritating. “You know you’re pretty when you blush.”

“The redness you see is irritation, so I wouldn’t flatter yourself. The last time we saw each other you were asking if I wanted to be a club whore, remember? So, I’m sorry if you’re not exactly my favorite Savage Knight.”

“I was a little drunk that night.” His face grows serious.

“I apologize if I offended you. Not my intention, babe. But you walked in the door and my mind stopped working right.” Wow, another man who knows how to apologize.

They at least teach these savage men how to do one thing right.

“Can’t blame a man for trying though.” A crooked smirk forms on his lips.

“So, you thought that by asking me to be a sweetbutt, I’d want to sleep with you?” That’s the worst pickup line I’ve ever heard. Most women want to be asked their name first. Not whether they want to be at a man’s sexual beck and call.

“No, I saw that look in your eyes and knew you wanted to sleep with me.” That crooked smile is quickly becoming an aggravating feature instead of a sexy one. “I asked you to be a sweetbutt because I saw a rare cutie in front of me, and I knew one time wouldn’t be enough.”

I think this man should stop talking now. It’s not doing him any favors.

“Just because I looked at you, didn’t mean I wanted to sleep with you. And for future reference, you should refrain from using that as a pickup line. Girls usually don’t want to be asked to be a whore.”

“It’s an honor to be one of the club girls, babe. Most beg for the chance.”

It’s another one of those moments where I have to keep my hand gripped around my beer bottle instead of trying to slap that crooked smile off his face.

“Well, I promise I won’t be begging.” I sit back, taking a sip of my beer, hoping the cold liquid will cool my temper. He should also learn to refrain from bragging about what a manwhore he is.

“We’ll see.” He smirks, taking another sip of his beer.

The dragon tattoo flaps its wings as he swallows his drink.

It really is a cool effect. All of his tattoos are intriguing.

It’s like a fantasy book has been depicted on his skin.

The black dragon on his throat, trees running along his collarbone.

And the other side of his neck is a sun with a sword stabbed through the center.

It’s such a pity that he has to be so cocky; otherwise, I’d be asking to see the rest of his artwork.

“Where’s my roommate?” I ask, ignoring his comment.

“She’s in the shower.”

I really need to do the same. I can’t even stand to be in my own presence. But I’ll wait until Payton’s done and will finish my beer.

“So, how long are you planning to stay?” I ask, taking another swig.

“Just until Cage gets back. Do you have a boyfriend?”

I nearly spit out my sip, trying not to choke as I swallow. Now, he asks me that?

“Don’t you think you should’ve asked me that before you asked me to be a sweetbutt?”

“With the way you were looking at me, I assumed not. But with how hard you’re playing to get right now, I’m wondering if that’s the reason.”

“You are really full of yourself, you know that? I’m not playing hard to get. You’re just not getting me.”

His crooked smile grows even wider, and those orange flecks in his amber eyes burn even brighter. “Want to bet?”

My eyes do a three sixty. “There’s no need to bet, not unless you want to lose.” Because it’s never going to happen.

His chuckle rumbles in my belly, filling me with a case of the butterflies. I shouldn’t be flattered by his cockiness. Usually, it’s a turnoff. But for some reason, I’m excited by his pursuit.

“I’ll take that bet,” he states, so sure of himself.

My stomach flutters again, and it’s absolutely annoying.

“What exactly are we betting?” I ask.

“I bet that before the week’s up, you’ll be kissing me.”

“Deal!” I hold my hand out for him to shake. “I bet you a thousand dollars that it will never happen.”

He reaches for my hand, but instead of shaking it, he kisses the top of it. A tingle radiates from the spot where his lips connected. If only those lips didn’t spout such obnoxiousness, I’d want them somewhere else.” The good news is that I’ll be going on a shopping spree.

“And if I win…” He gives me that crooked smile again. “You’re mine for a night. No rules. No resistance. Only complete compliance. You have to obey my every request.”

His voice has shifted even lower, and the playful look in his eyes has turned serious. Those amber flames are burning hotter—the heat reflecting in my body. If feels like I’ve just been placed in the oven on broil.

“Damn, I can’t wait to win.” His head shakes. “I bet you’ll scream for me.”

I’m suddenly snapped from whatever little spell he had me under for a moment. He can smooth talk me all he wants and try to ensnare me with those eyes, but I will not break.

“I can’t wait to go shopping with my winnings.” I smile fondly, thinking of all the things that have been on my wish list. “There are so many things I’ve been wanting.”

“I promise you, baby. My tongue between your legs will be so much better than anything you could possibly buy at a store.”

And that’s my cue. It’s time for my shower. A cold one.
